sainsburys has SIS bars / gels / tabs going cheap atm, 50% off I think (not sure)
may be worth a look if you have one local. didn't know they stocked em tbh.

Parents have offered to pay most of the cost of a Garmin 800 for my birthday. Shall I accept? Is it definitely worth the £££? I can't really think of another piece of cycling gear I require instead.

Do you want/need navigation?

I had the same question, but 98% + of my rides, I know where I'm going, or it's very easy to work out on my own. So I went with the 500 instead.

I've got a Barfly, similar to the k-edge one. It makes a real difference and I'd recommend getting one.

That one provided is secure and does a good job but its just in the wrong place. Moving it three inches forward makes it much easier to read, especially if you are spanking it.

right - don't laugh please...

I'm thinking of taking cycling a bit more seriously next year.... by doing time trials and generally 'training' and buying bits and pieces that will help.

I've done a local 10 mile TT course (on a Giant Defy 2 2012 if it helps?) and i did it in less than 30mins in my 3rd attempt a while ago (and i'd say i'm a touch fitter now :) ).

I'll buy some SPD shoes to go with the pedals i've got once i've done 100 miles in a day. Can do 50-60 no problem. Have a 26mile loop i can do.

My question is - how big a difference would TT bars make to my riding in a reasonably flat TT (slight uphill for first 5miles and the 5 mile return leg is obviously downhill a touch)?
Who's going to laugh? You're asking in the lycra hugging, pedal churning thread.

TT bars make a big difference, if you can afford it a TT bike will have a more aggressive aero position as well.

I had my first lot of ACA exams yesterday and was waiting until I passed them to treat myself to my new frame and finishing kit. Found out I passed this morning, within 30 minutes the clutch on my car goes which will eat up my whole bike budget. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. I've wanted a new bike for so ****ing long. :(

The other week, we were waiting outside my neighbour's house to start our ride. The neighbour's son on the other side was getting married that day, so they had people turning up at their house quite early to start getting ready. One girl turned up in her pyjamas with her hair all up in rollers and was all embarrassed. We had a bit of a giggle at her, and it occurred to me that it's not often we get to laugh at someone else for looking silly!
