There aren't really any bad groupsets, only personal preference and choice.

A full Ultegra groupset is a little over £600 from Merlin Cycles and they are pretty cheap. They currently have Tiagra for £299 or a 105 triple for £330.

The new Shimano Sora groupset has proper double lever shifters at last and that looks like it'll be about £250 when it finally hits the shops. Now that it's got proper shifters it's a much more viable choice, though I guess if it's only £300 for Tiagra then it's probably worth that bit extra again.

Cool thanks guys, I don't need a crankset/BB as am happy with the one that I currently have... although if it works out to be cheaper buying a groupset that has one included then I guess I may as well make use of it or can just sell it on etc...

I didn't realise that Merlin done the groups (mostly been looking on CRC) so definitely something to look into.

Dilemma! I was on fire today well on target for a PR on one of my local hills and possibly a KOM but half way up what do I see? A crisp £5 note.

Strava PR or £5. I was tempted to plough on.. for a moment. Then I stopped and went back for the fiver and sacrificed the PR :p

Pretty successful ride did 40 miles averaged 17.1mph and this was one of my hill routes! Took 6 new PR's two 3rd places and a KOM on another hill putting me 1st/106 plus came home £5 richer lol :)

Kryptonite New York M18 which cost £67 from Amazon.
Apparently it will take 5 minutes to cut through with an angle grinder.
This is right outside the office window before anybody mentions the fence.

or 30 seconds though the railings you have attached it to.
A lock is only as good as the thing you attach it to.

I've just got past 1000 logged since June or July, so probably more like 1200 once you factor in rides prior to that and the times my phone died and so on. I'll be aiming for about 3000 next year.

My parents are coming over tomorrow. I've asked if they can bring along my mum's old exercise bike, which she can't have used in close to 20 years. I think I'm more likely to get some miles in on that than to go out in the evenings much now that it's so dark and about to start getting properly cold.

stop being such a wuss! you wont die from cold! or darkness! :D fog was epic this morning.. couldn't see anything!~

Love riding in the fog (apart from the inherent increased risks etc), but my brakes were completely useless.

Get some proper winter clothes and you'll be fine. I treated myself to a Castelli jacket, and it's epic in proper cold weather. I'm sure with a baselayer on too, I'll be fine in sub 0 temps.

My feet however, are a different story! I think I'll need more than just some woolie boolie socks.

I'm up to 2220mi so far this year. I want to aim for 3500 - 4000 next year. Should be manageable as ill be able to get a full year in as opposed to 8 months!

But the real distance we should be talking about is distance climbed! :p I'm at 190,846ft.

How many gears does it have?

You can replace the link with something like a KMC missing link but it depends how wide your chain is and that depends how many gears you have.

21 gears I believe. I've no idea about chain width. I though all were the same :p

I shall have a look at a KMC link. Thx
