this show shows all bad things that cyclist can do...

as you guys said, it doesnt do anything good for other cyclist that do follow road code...

yeah bbc did try to make cyclists look bad in this case :) when in reality there's idiots everywhere! there are pedestrians who jump right in front of oncoming car/bike/motorbike and same with drivers/cyclists really :) i think so people simply don't look after them selves! the girl in the video that got killed can't be blamed really :) it was clearly an accident but it could have happened to anyone! but then again the girls i see riding in central london are the worst! now they jump red lights/cycle dangerously all over the road!

I think every one of us could keep a daily diary of near misses but after a couple of weeks of cycling I developed a 6th sense of what idiots might do. I am very aware of vehicles & pedestrians doing what you shouldn't expect and I slow down to compensate and hopefully I can keep that going. For instance the cyclist riding on the cycle path at speed overtaking walkers, no way would I be going at that speed and way before I got to them I'd be shouting 'Beep beep'.

HOWEVER, yesterday I was quite close to killing myself and it was all my fault.
Every night for the last few months I turn right out of this street - https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=e...=0IoeXvwVU6MVcmtfdbKGGg&cbp=12,80.21,,0,-6.77 against one way traffic but obviously wait for a decent gap to make my way over to the bus lane. Yesterday I did what I always do and for the very first time there was a bus coming from the left because I'd never seen a bus my brain took it for granted there wouldn't be one.
I stopped but I'm now facing an artic heading for me but the bus driver saw me, managed to stop and let me through - pheww.
I pulled over, apologised, thanked him and he just so happened to be a bloke who comes to watch my bands but he said "It's a good job you ride a racer because if you'd been a mountain biker in all black and no lights I wouldn't have seen you and I wouldn't be able to come see you except at the Crem".
Tonight I looked left.

I thought it was a great programme and was very fair. It took all sides in to account and gave a good insight in to the thought processes behind the wheel or handlebars.

A key point was made above, most if not all, are commuters, not cyclists. Commuters have no interest in promoting the sport of cycling.

Do you expect a driver to treat a club rider any differently than a commuter? I'm sorry but all they see is "cyclist". To me, the BBC have just made it look like cyclists have poor road sense in general and nothing but a menace.

I thought the most balanced people were the cement lorry driver and some of the older guys, who got embrangled in that punch up in Bexley. The taxi driver was OK as well. The rest were a bit nutty.

Some of the guys I cycle with are always shouting at car drivers if they take umbrage with what they're doing... I don't particularly like it. I don't think it would ever end well if someone took issue with being shouted at. I'll keep myself to myself, ride defensively where appropriate, assertively when necessary, and just do my best to stay out of the way where I can. I'm much too breakable to put myself in harm's way just to prove a point.

Really? his driving was fine? he passed far to close both times and didn't even finish going past the second time before pulling in, his driving was awful, the smu idiot on the bike should have let it go and dropped back like, but it doesn't excuse the taxi.

Do you even drive?

Anyway, the "cyclist" was not even in the cycle lane properly so the Taxi driver was well within his rights to pass where he did. To me, it showed the cyclist deliberately trying to antagonise drivers by riding as close to the car lane as possible to see if he could capture some cool footage for Youtube.

Yes, the Taxi driver pulled in and blocked him at the end which was daft but the cyclist caused the problem himself. Idiot.

Yes I do, the cycle lane is irrelevant, the cyclist was in the bus lane. Was the taxi driver correct to overtake him there? yes. was he right to start pulling in so close before he has even got passed the cyclist that he's in touching distance when there is plenty of room to complete the overtake without doing so? No, that's inexcusable driving

I disagree, the cyclist was a couple of yards from the pavement and no need to be that close to the car lane as he had all that space. The cycle lane is not irrelevant, its there for cyclists to use to make it safer for all. The driver did not move toward the cyclist in the initial overtake, he passed in his own lane, and only moved toward the cyclist after he had had his Taxi hit by that douchebag, which admittedly is stupid. If the cyclist wasn't such a knob and IMO trying to cause accidents to film for YT all this would have been avoided.

Sigh, the program was bound to bring on people like you, who are so certain they're right.

The old 'cyclists should be in the cycle lane where they belong' comes out again

I don't mean the taxi driver who had the fight. He was all over the road, though the cyclist didn't help matters at all. I mean the older taxi driver who'd lost his grandson in a cycling accident.

After? watch it again

He pulls out to overtake a cyclist, the cab overtakes him and cuts into his lane and slows down before he has passed him, then he slaps the cab as their both slowing down and the childish theatrics from the pair of them begin.

And just as a point its not a cycle lane, it has no boundary marks that denote it as one, its merely saying the the road is a cycle route and with the speed the cyclist was travelling at, in excess of 20mph his lane positioning was quite correct and infact recommended by dft and the IAM
