Really have to try some on, sizing is pretty random between brands. You want shoes that are snug but not tight in my experience. Doesn't matter if your toes are closer to the front of the shoe than a normal shoe because your feet generally don't move around. Do make sure the shoes you choose are wide enough though, particularly if you have fat feet (like myself!).

For reference, my shoes/trainers are usually a size 7 (EU 41) but my cycling shoes are a size 8.5 (EU 43) and are a perfect fit.

thanks

ill see if I can get these shoes that I have in a 44 of the bay then, as they felt like a good fit

Guys, I want to get a sat nav for my bike, and looking for some suggestions as to which one to get please.

It will be used for timing my rides to work. Have been using Strava to do this, and I am happy with it, but am getting a new phone tomorrow (windows o/s) and can't get Strava on it. Also for my ride out's I would like to do different routes without having to try and figure out myself where the hell I'm going.

Was looking on Halfords at the Garmin Edge 800 or the Edge 200. They seem to be 2 extreme's in terms of pricing, but was wondering if the 200 would do what I need it to do?

Navigation wise, the Edge 800 will be much better. The Edge 200 has no navigation functionality but is basically a basic cycle computer with GPS tracking. The Edge 500 has basic navigation functions (a line on the screen to follow but no map) but I'm not sure how well it works in practice. I imagine it would be fine for countryside routes but potentially a bit hard to follow in busier areas.

Unfortunately you've just missed out on a few shops that were selling the Edge 800 for £200 which was a cracking deal and Amazon had the 500 in their Boxing Day sales for £80ish I think.

Also note the x10 series have live track and few other features that you may not need - the x00 series should be a bit cheaper. I personally bought the 510 for the live track so my wife can see where am on a rice (and get the dinner on!) but you could live without it.

Yeah, don't really need a live track option tbh.

All I want it to do is track my time, average speed, maximum etc (the same as Strava does now) and give me routes as I find when I go out for a ride near I live a lot of them are twisty little roads and I find myself doing the same route over again as it is the one I know.

Will have a look at the amazon one when I get home later, thanks.

If you are going to splash the lot on a rear light then look at the Exposure TraceR. It's brilliant (pardon the pun). I use one across a number of bikes. The only thing that's better is the Hope District+ but that's a lot more notes.

Can anyone recommend a decent light set for commuting? I'm looking at http://www.wiggle.co.uk/moon-x-power-300-front-and-shield-rear-light-set/ but don't want to spend that much if I can help it.

Would prefer a USB-rechargeable, and around £50ish. I already have a decent front light, so could possibly splash the lot on a decent rear.

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cateye-tl-ld610-led-rear-light/ is a good rear light option bright and cheapish. Only problem is there is a slight design fault with the power button over time.

But overall its great :)

I've got one of these for the front:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cateye-nano-shot-plus-el-625rc/

Great for very dark unlit streets and it has a continuously on/ simultaneous flash mode which is pretty useful too. I think its important to be immediately recognised as a cyclist with the flashing light.

I also have one of these for the rear:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cateye-tl-ld600-led-rear-light/

Which is also excellent.

I also have these on the bike too:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cateye-hl-ld170-and-tl-ld170-light-set/

Have cateye sorted out the mounts so they are actually universal, if not I would go for something from Smart of with a lifetime warranty like the Knog lights.

The Cateye ones look remarkably similar to lights I got off ebay for a fraction of the price.
I've owned 3-4 Cateye lights, power and have been disappointed in them all.

My last rear was a Smart Lunar R2. Great light, but lasted all of 3-4 weeks. Had to take the batteries out to turn it off, and I lost it when I didn't attach it back on fully.

I put the Russian bike back together this evening with some new bars and stem and gave it a once over ready for tomorrow. I'm using some vintage GB bars in place of the curly lightweight Dawes I had on there that got bent. Much straighter across the top and the drops tail back quite a long way, so it'll be interesting to see how it affects the ride. I also started to restore the lettering which is panto'd on this bike where most bikes have decals. Just the white outline to do now. I'd forgotten just how wild the proportions are on this bike
