Looking at some Castelli bib shorts, using their sizing guide it puts me in a small :/ based on my waist measurement.

5'10" with a 30" leg, 34" waist (on average), with a big ass and large quads (26/27") from squatting. Just wondering how their sizing comes up? if anyones similarly proportioned and could help that would be great :)

I have a Medium sized Altura pair which are bang on.

Castelli are small.

I'm 5'10" with a 30" waist and a 33" leg and I'm a small in Castelli. I'd recommend going a size up from what you think you are.

If you were to head out of Aylesbury on the A41 towards Waddesdon, you'll see a regal looking gatehouse on the corner of some crossroads, take the left and it's down there. Takes you through Upper Winchendon and Long Crendon over to Thame :)

Happy to have some company if you don't mind me plodding along at a snails pace behind you :p

Sounds good :)

I am in the High Wycombe Cycling Club if you fancy coming along on our intros ride one Sundays

well, I ordered a large like I do with all my cycling gear, so well see when it comes if its the right size or not for me, just hope they don't sell out of the other sizes if I need to change mine..

my Lezyne DUO from the mag subscription STILL haven't arrived, if it doesn't come by the end of this week I am going to complain

and they had the cheek of sending me the next months magazine..

Didn't get out much over Christmas, feel pretty bad! The road by my GF's house is pretty popular with cyclists, quite a nice climb hitting over 10% for a decent section, felt rather un-badass as I sat and watched people struggle up through the window as I sipped a beer on most days :o

Oh well, back to the commuting tomorrow!

Still not got mine, but got the letter and an email saying it's going to turn up...

I would go size up, generally castelli is quite race fit, I fit into my tops in medium when I'm busting a 31" waist, not much on top, but I wouldn't say there is much space left.

Canondale do a road bike with disc brakes. Evans Cycles have the 2014 model for £769. A little out of your budget. I purchased the CX model (CAADX) last week, and really enjoy it.

Thanks for advise (and others who replied). Should I change now or save the new bike for better weather and stick with the hybrid for a couple of months in case we get snow etc?

Either way I could still buy new one now if there are still deals to be had - any reccomendations? I know there have been some at £400-600 recently but I dont know if they are upright position? Also I think I would prefer disc brakes if poss (cx bike?) as thats what I am used to now from the hybrid. Some roads are a bit muddy so a slightly wider tyre would be good too.

ok if i forget the discs what is recommended with upright position?

I was looking at the felt z95 @ £390

Can you get much better for 500ish?

cheers

Well...I'm still clearly really ill and the cold air of the commute makes it about a hundred times worse. I might book a few days off and spend more time in bed :/

Not got mine either, had intended to ring them to see about cancelling it (as I'd bought the light separately), but got the letter like the rest of you. If mine doesn't turn up (had my second magazine today) I'll probably just cancel the DD as they've not responded to any of my e-mails to the various companies.

The light is worth it and amazing quality for anyone who isn't sure.

Good excuse to hunt down the KOM's there? ;)

That was officially the coldest, darkest, most depressing commute I am likely to do this year.

Mine wasn't bad, certainly not cold as some of the rides I've done recently (not below zero), no wind (that comes later this week) and not wet (also comes later this week!)... Quite foggy though! Very impressed with my average speed although my S&C needs a reset as it's not reporting cadence

Felt strong as I'd had a few rest days after some easy rides on the turbo, we'll see how this week goes as I'm away Snowboarding next week and intending to cycle my commute all week (normally do 4 days so may need to pace myself...) :)

I'm so tempted to just send the video to the police this time! imagine if she got it wrong, check the pedestrians on the pathway..

I would, wrong way around an island with pedestrians on it because your rightfully riding so you can't be squeezed into the kerb.

Pretty sure the local police would do nothing as nobody was hurt - driver didn't really put you in danger (she'd have hit the bollards before you!), the pedestrians on the other hand... If they reported it then even better as you have the reg and footage!

I guess the police might be interested if the registration of the vehicle has been previously reported for dangerous driving? Calling 101 puts you through to your local station, really depends how helpful they are about it. Unsure if there is a different department or number to call for video of traffic offences... If you find one let us know as I'm pretty sure I'll have footage soon of similar!:rolleyes:

Definitely pass it on to the police. You'll probably have to spend a lot of time and energy for them to do anything with it though. Even if they then charge the driver or whatever they probably won't let you know.

It's a pretty thankless task.

Agreed, I know from reporting my accident that I wouldn't hear anything back unless I wanted to press charges (which I wasn't). I still haven't received anything but fairly sure I will when it's 'processed'.

Something totally unrelated, check this segment (on my commute) and filter it by 'This year'. This is probably fitness technique related... But how is the guy in 1st place pushing such a high average speed (19mph) with such a low HR (152)?

My HR is pretty high even for me, as I was carrying extra weight (Christmas wasn't kind!) Of all the HR's listed on the segment (6/15) mine is by far the highest! :D
