Out this morning for some local hills and although i felt i wasnt really pushing to my limit at all i absolutely nailed them in slippery conditions.

Ive felt for a few weeks now like my form is getting better, just need to go back and nail them properly in dry none slippery conditions! Damp roads on steep inclines were scary today as they were so greasy...felt like i had to hold back a bit.

Good work. A second off my time on the brow and 40odd off my time on Parbold hill! I need to get a power meter and start figuring out what I'm doing.

17:27 - took me ages to get down to that after usually being around 18:30 last year. I think a lot of conditions are down to luck - I got held up twice by cars I couldn't pass and I think I could do sub 17 if everything was 100%, will have to see. Now I want a TT bike haha
Ah nice. Yep - a lot of variables in a lap that could hold you up.

Cheers guys,

I decided on a pair of Gatorskin (28c), as I know them and a pair of GP4000 SII (25c)
My work colleague stateside has managed to get both sets for $120 and will ship them with the next planned hardware shipment to me later this month, so around £85 for two sets :D
Aha, well played. Which store did you use stateside? I have workmates going over there all the time... probably should utilise that more.

Also had to get a new gear cable, popped to local lbs. £4...... for one inner, no wonder people go online if they can! Need to get a bulk load of jagwire ones ideally.
Yep - they charged me £5 a cable (brake and rear derailleur cable) + £5 for a barrel adjuster yesterday. They were also quoting RRP for the shifters at £300+ or so... can get them online for £150.

Hayfever is absolutely killing me today. Pretty sure it affected my ride last night as I didn't feel like I was pushing it legs wise but breathing was all over the show :(

yeah had a close moment on Wednesdays ride after the thunderstorm. Back end stepped out in front of a car coming the other way on a single track road. Closing speed was probably 40mph so would have been a trip to A&E. The look on the drivers face was pretty funny though even though he didn't slow down or anything.

I think I was ankling too much as well, my right Achilles tendon is slightly sprained with a swollen lump on it. Was hoping for it to be better for this weekend but it's not gone yet.

I seemingly timed it well today, horrendously heavy showers now.

Nearly had a collision with a stupid boy scout who decided to chance it and run across a road when i was speeding along at about 40kph. I shouted "Dont cross!!!" But he did anyway and i nearly hit him when i wasnt sure to pass him on the left or right while slamming on the brakes. I know i shouldnt have as he was only a kid, 14 or 15 but i did swear at him about his stupidity as i sailed past.

Peds eh! I was descending at 25mph or so last night and a teenager stuck his arm out. I thought he was pointing at some hazard in the road or something as it was dark. No, he just wanted a high five even though he was bout 4ft in from the kerb... Not sure it would have been a comfortable high five if I attempted it! :D

Great ride FT! You have any targets with cycling as you put out some huge mileage. Or just doing it to enjoy yourself and stay healthy?

Mostly to stay healthy and all that jazz really. I did have some targets in mind for the year but I've essentially failed most of them already :p

Hopefully I'll get at least one 300 done this year..that's my main remaining target that is still possible. Aside from that I've got weight loss goals and stuff but it's actually easier to lose weight when I'm doing a bit less volume normally (though this week has been pretty relaxed apart from today).

Cycling 6 out of the last 7 days, 197 miles covered, calorie defecit on 6 out of the last 7 days (and only a couple of hundred over on the other day) and... I put on weight. One day I will master this body of mine :p

I think I might have to take the bike in to see the bike doctor. There is grease coming out of the headset. I've ignored it for a couple of weeks but for some reason that hasn't fixed it :p Not bad though, 1700 miles since I bought it. My MTB managed less than 70 miles before going back!

Had a recurring issue, well not really an issue as such but during my last two rides I've put a massive chip in my frame and nailed a passing car, wheelie bin, someones front door and a pedestrian with stones being fired off my front tyre. Building works, road works and some flooding recently has left the roads with plenty of ammo :o

Regarding weight lordprobs: It's quite important to ensure that you weigh yourself at the same time of day under similar conditions. Weight can fluctuate a lot between days based on hydration levels etc. I find its better to weigh myself once a week and thenext measure the general trend. Taking body measurements can also help show improvements where weight doesn't:)

Yeah first thing on a either a Saturday or Sunday is weighing in time.

I don't have any figures to go by but I've been informed my belly is a bit smaller by my wife :p

Pretty glad I'm not out again today..aside from my legs being tired the weather is pretty grim. Looks like there's several days of it left too :/

Currently re-evaluating our plans for a 300 next weekend. We may drop it down a bit given that we're doing a 300 in August anyhow.
