Fitted my new Charge Spoon, in between rain showers over the weekend - looks more comfortable, but would be nice if it would actually stop raining this week so I can try it.

How much protein do you actually eat now? Unless you're vegan or something you're probably getting enough and don't need whey.

I don't think you really need to be going crazy with all this recovery stuff.
There are some tiny tiny benefits to consuming it shortly after exercise but if you're just commuting with the odd longer ride it really doesn't matter.
To be honest I'm only using it for ease after big rides (couple of times a week) as I otherwise wouldn't eat anything post exercise (or certainly not in the post-20 min 'window') as I have no appetite. A shake is quick and easy while cooling down before jumping in the shower.

I don't run macros or even log what I eat as that side of things doesn't overly interest me (well not enough to start logging it all). My girlfriend is vegetarian so I probably only eat meat 3-4 meals a week, usually in the form of chicken/sausages/burgers, although I do eat quite a varied diet otherwise - '5 a day' is more like '8-10 a day' for me. I eat nuts as an evening snack most days (with dried fruit), they're probably my daily protein rich intake outside of normal meals.
GP4000s II £54 for a pair. https://www.mantel.com/uk/continental-grand-prix-4000s-ii?spec

They are from Holland but delivery is free via DPD and they have been spot on service wise. I bought my Zipp 404, tyres, Fourier brake callipers and Fizik saddle from them.
Great, thanks for link!
Paging Roady...

I have a couple of topeak aero wedge packs which will fit two tubes, pair of lezyne levers, tiny lifeline inflator head, a gas cyclinder, a key and some emergency patches. I think they're the small size ones. The micro is ludicrously tiny, the medium is pretty big and the large one doubles as a tent in the event that all your puncture repair attempts fail. Get the one with straps and buckles rather than the clip on one. Yes, the strap on the seat post will take the finish off the post, but that's better than the clip breaking and the whole thing being useless.
Another vote for Topeak wedge bags. I'm using a medium with straps and fit in: 2 tubes, chain tool, 4 levers, electrical tape, multi tool, mini pliers, £20 note, house keys, saddle rain cover, 4-5 zip ties and a bag of bits (nuts/screws, valve caps, QL and couple of chain links). There's still space in my bag for arm warmers and even knee warmers & gloves if I open the expansion zip.:p:D

I'd buy another and have considered getting a small for after work rides/commuting, my only concern was getting 2 tubes in them (as I ride with friends who don't carry tubes). Thanks for answering above Von! ;)

Weekend of non riding for me (107 miles during the week & sorting out house stuff). Stripped and regreased headset after I was getting some clicking starting. Lower bearing needs a change at some point as lots of rust 'gloop' came out of it. Blasted and cleaned with GT85 before a regrease and it feels ok for now...

Also began stripping down the Roval wheels, my initial thoughts of needing a bunch of spokes have now been changed to only a handful - 2 are broken, 2 are badly twisted and 1 has paint missing. Bearings in the rear need changing, easy to identify them but a pig to remove them, anyone got any tips? I've got 2 in the freehub (which may not need changing as possibly need to swap it to convert to 11 speed) and 2 around the axle. The one the non drive side I was able to remove but the other (below the freehub) will not budge. They're 'DT internals' in a Roval shell. If the freehub/bearings turns out to be expensive I'll just replace the whole hub.

Well, I practically swam to work this morning. Utterly horrendous for the first twenty minutes or so, then it at least backed off to just drizzling for the rest of it. It definitely moves you from "get there fast" mode to "get there alive".

Front derailleur alignment is screwed since getting bike back from the shop...
Can't shift onto big ring unless chain is in smaller half of sprockets... and in the smallest 3/4 sprockets a lot of chain rub on the FD.

Why did they even touch it? The issue was with the rear derailleur shifter/cable.

Take it back and tell them to sort it.

I would be straight there if it was round the corner. Alas, it's at least an hour round trip with good traffic (then 2 hours if I have to leave it with them!). I guess I'll try and make it a round trip ride (at least 20 miles) this week if I call in advance and get them to sort it while I'm there.

I had an urgent braking scenario this weekend , damp roads and coming to a roundabout ~15mph where had to give way at last minute. [lush vegetation and hoarding have reduced visibility recently]

Applying both brakes, principally front initially per normal braking, and then probably similar pressure on the rear ( survival gene kicked in) I locked the rear wheel and that started to come around, but finally kept it upright, a long time since I have had such a situation and had perhaps forgotten what to do, would you say rear wheel coming round => bad technique ?

[fortunately no bald patch on my newish michelin pro 4 endurance anyway - plug again for acycles who have cashback and £54.64 for gp4000 btw, maybe wet weather tread on a gp4000 might help too
also have another European bike with right/left brake levers swapped so maybe contributory - would you fix that]

Frame is completely square, but did wonder whether could have any tracking issue on the rear wheel (either not vertical or axle not perpendicular to frame) that contribute to being unable to break in a straight line (2mm out say at rim) anyone do precise measurements here ?

BennyC gorgeous location - what is the rear mech on your bike seemed like a long hanger for a double ?

if you put enough pressure on the rear brake to lock it, then the wheel is going to wander off somewhere. Whether it veers left or right probably depends more on your exact position, camber of the road, etc at that exact time than it does on the frame being bent.

Cycling 6 out of the last 7 days, 197 miles covered, calorie defecit on 6 out of the last 7 days (and only a couple of hundred over on the other day) and... I put on weight. One day I will master this body of mine :p
Bet you've just built up muscle and gained hydration bodymass due to the heat and bodys fueling/recovery. Good work & good miles though!
Weather is terrible here too. I've just been out driving supercars round a weird track and unfortunately the instructors were quite limiting due to a very wet track.
Where did you go and who was it with? I had a friend went on Saturday to Prestwold (where I've done a couple of sessions) with 'Everyman'. Probably the best track of theirs, the other couple I did (one near Loughborough) were terrible 'tracks' and just basically up and down old runways with hundreds of potholes...

Yes, you are probably wondering which bin I found my beautiful Jersey from :D zero care for looking like a tit :p
Awesome riding mate & I love the jersey! Got a pic of the front or where did you get it from?! To be honest it's probably even a bit loud for me, I'd go with something like the traditional Mapei jersey (I already caused some mild heart attacks in here with my Primal Tagged jersey)

Power meter ordered. I've gone ahead with the 4iiii precision, largely because at £350 it's a bargain.
Awesome, can't wait to hear how you get along with it mate! Exciting! :D

With the NFTO highstreet/retail store/shop closing I went hunting bargains...

  • Grabbed 2 jerseys (1 free aero & 1 team) for £35 a pop, considering they're Castelli and normally priced at the Castelli prices of ~£75 (Free Aero) and ~£65 for the team jersey they're an absolute steal... I grabbed both in medium as the other team jersey I have (same as the one on the right) is a Large and a little flappy. After trying them on I changed the team jersey for a Large in a slightly different team pattern (no AAM on the front, I already have one of those like the picture), but I kept the Aero Race as a Medium. It's quite 'fitted' (megalols) but being aero I'll only be using it for fast club summer rides. The two Large team jerseys will be worn year round for everything else.
  • Grabbed 2 pairs of the Team socks so I can begin #sockdoping ! They're the Castelli Rossa Corsa 9cm's which I already have some white versions of so well supplied with White & Black-ish now (2 pairs of each).
  • Had a couple of the 'NFTO Black cap' which actually isn't Castelli (the team cap is) but they are some of the best cycling caps I've worn. Really soft airy fabric rather than the cotton that caps normally are made of. Will wear them mostly instead of headbands as they're that soft (think of how soft the Castelli headbands are, they're like that but thinner in a cap!).
  • NFTO Cap & Tshirt as I'm a club member, got for posing value rather than anything else (and I like a good cap).
May go back to see what's left next weekend, I forgot to check for shoecovers (last sale they had the Nano for £15!).

There were no club shorts left (apart from S & XS) which I was quite gutted about, I'm probably going to pick up a pair of the Volo shorts at their normal price (£90) when they get stock back in. Not many bargains on non-clothing related items, although they were selling Gabba 2's at £95, Muur at £170 and the Elemento at £200.

Colnago C59 for under £1000 anyone? (potatocam)

Any able to find me some - 295mm dt swiss aero lite straight pull spokes??

Local shop can only get them in boxes of 50 at a time (i need 3 plus a couple of spares) - so obviously they aren't keen in ordering a box!

Can't seem to find any at all - even ebay etc.

Hahaha I'm looking for almost the same! Straight pull Aerolite's!

I need 3*283mm, 2*261mm and 3*374mm.

I'm probably going to end up ordering them from someone like DCR.

Know any wheelbuilder type forums to ask dumb questions in?
They're not straight pull...

Supercar Drive Days in Aldershot. In hindsight I should have added even more money (had already added excess waiver, and weekend upgrade) for a proper track like Brands Hatch or whatever. Perhaps I'll do a write up in Motors soon if I feel like it.

Video of the track from someone else here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQy5ptqi2VE
