Indeed. Lack of stretching/warming up then 0-100% effort. There's no fool like an old fool! :(

How long before I can get back on the bike do you think? Some light spinning on the turbo perhaps?

As with any strain/sprain/tear I'd take it very easy, carefully stretching it to determine amount of pain. I've personally found stretches are better for any kind of muscle damage (aiding recovery) than actually working them further. Although it really would depend on the level of damage. I've sprained muscles before and had to continue working them, usually resulting in some bruising and a far longer extended recovery time.

Bear in mind I'm no medical professional! Just quite good at hurting myself! ;)

I wouldn't be too hasty to introduce stretching too soon after injury.

I'd be looking to increase blood flow and further aid recovery before looking to restore mobility & flexibility. :)

I'd look to address any diet deficiencies that might slow or hinder repair and perhaps look to a supplement of sorts if it's links to tissue repair have been proven. (Off the top of my head amino's that might be useful, Arganine, Taurine, Leucine maybe)

Generally though it'll need rest and time. Just don't risk making it worse by trying to rehab it before it's healed.

I "strained" my thigh a few years ago - was actually a grade two tear. At the time, I felt the muscle tear it was, what I imagine, getting stabbed with a hot knife would feel like. Searing pain, then barely able to walk.

I was off for about 6 weeks then tried to do some light running and then aggravated the injury which resulted in another lay off. My advice, take it extremely slowly. Depending on how badly you've injured yourself you may need to work on some strength exercises and do some muscle massage if you've got scarring.

Take it slow.

Met OneMoreSolo for a ride after work today. 6 miles in and I wondered why he hadn't finished climbing the tiny hill yet - turns out his freehub broke  His bike is now the opposite of a fixie :/ He hobbled home whilst I finished a shorter route at a fairly painful pace. I felt a bit nauseas part way through as my HR was staying up fairly high. I'm pretty sure the reading at the end was wrong though - if not I've somehow mistakenly thought my max HR was 24 lower than it actually is :p

Had flat front when I got to it after work today. Can't find the hole but the tyre is ancient and will be changed this week anyway. Ordered myself a Stages PM to cheer myself up :D

TO ALL

This is going to sound a bit silly really, but I'd like some advice

if anyone has read my pervious post today I said about my fitness isn't there anymore

Basically, I am back on the bike after injury and I have been back on the bike a few times now, but I feel like im really really struggling

I am riding 10 miles at my own pace, and just take it as it comes, is that ok ? or should I be looking at increasing the miles ?

Lovely night tonight so got out with the training bunch.

Felt strong where I usually get dropped and went off the front through a twisty descent with a drag after it, guy that was second wheel wasn't sure of the road so didn't come through which left me out there.

Kept in and got round the full way in the bunch for a change. Would have been further up the bunch had I kept within it through the last few roundabouts rather than going up the outside on my own.

Lesson learned and I know where to be for that last mile or so since I've seen it now :)

The bundy to college segment is pretty much with the bunch, rest is solo or easy pedal home.

Thanks guys
last week and this week I have been off work, but 1 day last week, my legs felt tired, so I took the next day off
im taking tomorrow off as well, so over the past week and a half, I've been out every day (almost)

first time I went out, was really really easy , I did something like 5 miles, as it was a back injury I stopped a few times along the way, the 2nd day I did 5 miles again without stopping, and then the 3rd day I think I did 5 miles again, then I started doing around 8 miles for a couple of days, now I've done 10 miles about 4 times

Yep, good times. Calling Planet X in the morning to try and get a warranty replacement. If they don't play ball I'm tempted to get the rims rebuilt on some decent hubs.

Its arrived! Excited to take it for a proper ride http://https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_GLbkqi79RRaUFHY0FNTVg3NzQ/view?usp=sharing
