Whats up with it?

When changing the pads the rear caliper completely seized up. I replaced it but for some reason I can't get the system to bleed properly so there's only about 10% braking power on the rear brake. I spent hours and hours looking at it over the weekend.

Weird..

You didnt accidently catch the lever when the pads were out did you? Could have bent the internal mech which would explain why you have some movement but not a lot?

Mines been in the shop with the derailleur spring not pulling the mech back properly and then colliding with the cassette on the top rings.

Catch it in what way? The lever has tons of pull so I am kind of worried that something is knackered inside it to be honest... I guess we'll see what the shop says.

My gears are playing up too but I think/hope it's just the cables being a bit frayed - the gears playing up are rear gears too so they're not on the same lever as is having the brake issues.

Catch it as in press it accidently in any way without realising. Build up of dirt slipping into any gaps when the pads were out? Could have been anything really. Id like to know what caused it as its a bit of a funny one that.

The smallest things seem to cause the biggest problems i find, how odd! I changed a chain and now my jockey wheel collides with the cassette when in the biggest rings.

Ah right..you mean the caliper? I'm not sure to be honest. I might have been overzealous with my cleaning but that's actually usually the opposite of me... So... *shrug* It was really really annoying though.

Yeah i can imagine it were! Hopefully you get it back today though like me :D

Love this new shop i go to, twice ive given them literally no notice and theyve got it in and sorted it, theyre really good to me and the fella now remembers my name which is even more of a bonus to me!

Yeah, it's nice when you get friendly with them :) I've been to this place on and off a fair bit over the years. Obviously a lot more when I first started riding. Even though I don't go in as regularly any more they are still pretty friendly.

The place i got my bike from are pretty good, theyre just a bit big and i feel they dont care too much about people like me who aint racers on expensive bikes.

The other shop i went to are a small independant shop and they have their own track and still give me the time of day and talk to me properly which is nice of them! I know theyre involved in racing too.

Im gonna speak to them today about having a go on their track, id like to do that and i know they have open days so.. Hopefully get a date to go visit the track :D

I walked home in the rain (woo) and called by the bike shop on the way back. They showed me the "fixed" brake and the lever pull was still ridiculous - same as before. I said it still feels a bit odd and they came back with an excuse about the throw always being longer on a rear brake due to the longer hose line. Not convinced, I left to come back later once they'd finished. To my happy surprise it was pretty much spot on when I got back to pick it up. They'd also noticed that the Shimano pin on my chain had somehow knackered itself and swapped in a power link for me. I've gone from feeling incredibly ****ed off to pretty happy about getting my bike back :)

Now if only Amazon would pull their fingers out and deliver my replacement motherboard when they're meant to...

Hi Roady! I recently took up road cycling (April) and mainly ride around Cardiff where I live. My parents however live in Hereford and I have been following some of your routes and progress with interest over the last few months to pick up a few ideas about the rides I could do when back.

I rode this on Saturday: https://www.strava.com/activities/338965989

The Haugh Wood was surprisingly tough with two very steep parts – have you ever tried it?

Hi mate, I added you on Strava to make things easier!

Yeah I tried that ride out of Mordiford to Woolhope on a loop back in February! I hadn't done many hills back then and I actually stopped twice on it so you're over 7 minutes faster than me lol ;)

I've been meaning to try it again since (and probably about overdue another attempt!).

Some great routes around the north of the city you're ideally located for! Many riders ride around Sutton/Marden/Weobley and can see you did part of a popular loop (Sutton->Bodenham Moor->Burley Gate->Withington). Ridgeway road there is a great cut through and quiet (see if you can spot the ostrich!). There's a great climb from that loop up to Pencombe and the ride out to Bromyard and back is good too.

If you like your hills then south from Mordiford (Fownhope) towards Hoarwithy there are some great back roads and little punchy climbs, some of the road surfaces can be a little rough though!

There are still lots of good rides to the south and west and that's where I tend to head at the moment to avoid crossing the city.

Crossing the city (or more accurately the river as there are not many bridges) is very time consuming and always busy so you will see many riders doing loops around parts of the city for their rides, rather than specific points to ride to. Hereford is quite well situated for some flat fast loops with literally hills in every direction if you head in a straight line from the city :)

One of the LBS do 'Social Saturday' rides, although you may not fancy them (9am starts) their rwgps profile has a ton of different rides on it (all around 25-35 miles): http://ridewithgps.com/users/369613

In my brief ride on Saturday we did a bit of bike swapping. My two buddies were both on Canyons. One Ultimate AL di2 and the other SLX Dura Ace. It was my first go on a bike with Di2. I have to say its bloody good. So much so that even as a sworn Campag man I think I could be tempted to swap. Carbon frames definitely make for a smoother ride though so I can't see me going to an ally one any time soon.

Ugh. Its raining and I'm tired and stressed (Mrs is ill) so can't face going out. Not been out since Saturday but just can't bring myself to do it. Will have to see how I'm doing in a day or two.

Urgh! I normally walk my bike to the end of the drive and then get on it, today I decided to ride it down. I get to the bottom of the drive and there is a car on the wrong side of the road passing parked cars. With no where to go I wobbled to a halt and fell off because I couldn't get unclipped in time :p Very embarrassing!

Was having a nice short post work ride and decided to tag on a few extra miles then the puncture fairy took a pot shot at my front tyre :(

Ah well, can't win them all!

Another few miles on the road this evening. Quite pleasant, apart from the brief wobble when turning round a blind corner and am confronted by a pickup truck! Things are feeling a bit easier, put in an extra bit of climbing to get the muscles working but need to keep working at it. Club AGM tomorrow so no biking for me. Rest will probably do the legs some good and hopefully get back out / turbo later on in the week depending on the weather.

EDIT

only randomness..

So many Zombies but no Cranberries - Zombie or Kernkraft 400 - Zombie Nation on the soundtrack. Disappointing :p
