The guides also say that if your psi is out of tyre spec then for optimal stuff you should get a different tyre.

Personally I just pump up the front a little extra.

Try it out and see. You usually have a bit of leeway on the tyre's recommended pressures anyway. As with most "guides" in cycling it's good to find a start point from which you can tweak as needs be.

Isn't that way too high? You could be enjoying a smoother ride over London's potholes!:D

it might be on the high side and for a week or so after pumping it up it feels quite "harsh" but after that it's all good! to be honest, with the number of potholes, manhole covers with sharp edges etc, high psi is pretty much a must not to bottom out your tire and hit the rim? what pressure do you ride around on?

If I go for 190lb (165 for me and my clothes, 25 for the bike which is definitely an overestimate) and opt for 45%/55% weight distribution it says I should go for 73psi up front and 92psi at the rear. That front seems awfully low. The tyres say the minimum pressure is 73psi. I wonder what that would feel like, or whether I'd be at risk of pinch flats...

Give it a whirl and see how you go. I personally wouldn't go below or above the min/max recommended pressures but I happily run my hybrid (with 40mm tyres) at the minimum pressure on the front.

EDIT - I'd also recommending taking a copy of the Google Doc from this page and editing it for your needs if you have multiple bikes http://www.biketinker.com/tire-pressure-calculator/ it is a 'live' document so it may well need cleaning up after numptys have trashed it but it is well worth the effort IMO and once you have your own copy you won't need to do anything other than plug the numbers in.

I don't intentionally ride over stuff for starters.:p

I run 80/85 F/R but according to that calculator I can run 50/80! :confused::rolleyes:

I use the Vittoria one, and with my 220tpi tyres, it reckons I should be running 115 or so on the rear, dropped this a little bit and plenty comfortable, but wondering whether to drop it a bit more to match up to that guide.

I imagine 100 or 105 is right for Grudas' rear given all the beefcake :p

lol, I'm not heavy, hoovering around 12.5st lately!

neither do I ;) but you know, lundun is not all perfect driver wise so once in a while you've got no option just to bang that pothole.

I can't imagine running less than 80 up front! I'd hit the rim easily, 50 is a joke! :o

45/55 weight distribution would give 58/73

I find the ride quite smooth already with 80/85 on 25mm tyres. I wonder if I'd gain much by riding them at, what seems to me to be, really low pressures.

Do you weigh like 10kg or something? :p

Ah, fair enough. I assumed more like 90-100 KG with beefcakery ;)
