I plug my Garmin in once per week to charge unless I'm doing a lot of riding. The convenience of not having to plug it into my PC is a real thing and it's nice being able to finish my commute and see my ride speed/etc whilst sat at my desk and avoiding work.

As above, you can do this on the 510, 810 and 1000 at the very least.

The battery on the 500 lasts for at least 10 multi hour rides so it's not essential to charge it every time.
I only need to plugin the 810 once every couple of weeks, doing about 120 miles average per week.

Stop giving me reasons to upgrade my 200  :p

WHAT YOU SAY.

none of them have internet capabilities, you have to do it via the PC
unless you use strava on your mobile and use your mobile for your ride

Wrong! :p

Agreed, I stop my ride on my 810 and it's sync'd automagically. I don't even need to use my mobile/Strava with the Garmin Connect-Strava link setup on my S5. Admittedly I then open Strava (when at my desk/at home) and edit my ride names... But that's just me! :p

I find commuting I use 20-30% battery a week (10 rides of ~20 mins) so mine usually lasts around 2 weeks with my weekend riding. I tend to flatten my lights/garmin and charge them all every 2 weeks. the VIRB is the exception as that needs charging every 4-5 days.

Love mine. Paid £80 in January and its been flawless.

I think as a 'deal' for those wanting an 'upgrade' from using Strava on a mobile device they are awesome at that price. Aldi even sold them for a similar price not long ago!

For someone wanting a fully featured cycling computer then they're better actually spending more money and going for the 510/810/1000.

I don't know what I'd do without the navigation (when exploring) sometimes on my 810. I guess I'd just be more lost! :D

your late Roady, we have always established I was wrong :p

Can I ask a favour guys, I think im doing ok, but can you check my profile
since back injury ive done 22 rides now, want to know if I am doing enough riding, for example, enough miles each ride / per week ? not enough rides each week ?

Thanks

Not entirely true. The 810 and 1000 have Bluetooth so can connect to your phone and upload that way.

and wi-fi.

Charge mine up maybe once a week or so for the 10+hours of riding/on time it is used for without problems. Don't think I've ever had it where its been short enough not to last a long 3-4 hour ride unlss I've left it on by accident.

GET THE ONE THAT FEELS RIGHT.

:D

Sounds like they're spending the time to do a decent fit with you which is always good, much of 'comfort' on the bike can come from saddle, geometry and pedals/shoes/cleats. Are pedals and shoes part of it or will you be sourcing them independently? If so I would suggest getting them to do a 'refit' for you as part of the initial purchase (if you can!) to make sure they're right. If you're getting them (+setup) as part of the bundle then all the better. You may find the Giant when setup correctly will feel 'right', the Rose probably being closer to your setup will be why it feels better.

The only real difference between the bikes I can see are the BB7's on the Rose and the TRP Spyres on the Giant. Don't know which is better!

As you're 'spending' £1k+ on a bike I wouldn't be worried about 200 difference. I'd get the bike which felt 'best'/'right'. At the end of the day if you're not happy with the cheaper one you'll regret it for ages!

I was planning to get the shoes, pedals clothing etc. in store, they've offered me 20% off any additional purchases as I couldn't wangle much movement in the bike price.

They'll throw in a set of road tyres for either bike though. Any pointers as to a decent set of road tyres?

Any road tyres? Vittoria open pave, veloflex master... Or more realistically, as they probably won't give you tyres that fancy, Michelin pro 4, continental 4 seasons, schwalbe ultremo.

Get 25mm tyres. More comfy ride.
