 That's like 170rpm!

I struggle to push a gear over 110 rpm :(

I think most of it was gravity. I'm a big chuffer, and dundry rolls out for ages

I also have "started out in mountain biking" balls of descending steel. although now I'm going back and checking the figures too.

seems I've been telling fishermans tales.....

Your top gear must not be very 'top'!

50/12

Maybe my "spinning quite quickly" wasn't as quick as I thought :p I must admit that as soon as I hit high twenties on a descent a little light flicks on in my brain that makes me think "Imagine hitting the tarmac with your face at this speed..." at which point I tend to back off :o

Edit - About 95 cadence to hit 31mph, sounds about right for me.

I start to get scared over 75kmh, max I've been is a low 80.

Saw Mark Renshaw hit 107kmh in days stage!

Not that fussed at speed, but not many places around here to get to that sort of pace. Managed 48 through twisties on the TT, then chucking it into a 150degree bend is always quite interesting! 40 to 5 mph in 100 yards.

Right, I've been given permission to get Carbon handlebars and a Carbon seatpost. Any recommendations?

Regarding the handlebars, has anyone used the flat top (aero) bars? Just wondering if they might be more comfortable or if its purely for reduced resistance.

I hit 100km/h coming down Ventoux. I did not steer!

Yes, it does get to a point when you start thinking 'what if my tyre bursts?'

It is astonishing. I could never imagine getting up to that speed. Carzy!! I'm not good enough at cornering for starters.

tell me about it, after all the crashes I've had in rain, on my bmx etc and probably 4+months in total with broken bones, ankles etc I can say that yeah, I'm paranoid and speed is scary for me! yet filtering inches from traffic does nothing

I only really get scared if it's a new descent, generally fine if I know where all the bends/junctions are. But having said that I think the max I've hit round here is 81km/hr.

You were unable to get a decent enough deal so bought a new bike instead as was better value? :D

Unfortunately "we've" decided to postpone replacing my good (broken) bike, so I want to stick carbon bars/seat posts on the winter bike to make the ride more comfortable - its an alu frame/carbon fork. I guess seatpost isn't most important but I've been wanting to try carbon bars for ages 'cause of my wrist.

My single speed is 48*18 and I can't spin much beyond 120, so the highest I've got that to on the flat is about 25mph.

I think the fastest I've hit going downhill is about 43mph, which isn't that much by some standards, but I'm a nervous descender.

I'd say the opposite. Seat post will make the bigger comfort increase than the bars. You'd see a bigger comfort increase by swapping bar tape than the actual bars if you're wanting to change stuff in the cockpit.
