Lot's of rest today/tomorrow/thursday as I'll be riding to Norwich on Friday/Saturday. Should be a fun ride. The distance doesn't feel like much any more but on the other hand I've not done two imperials in a row before. The first day starts off a bit hilly but after that it's super flat all the way. Woo.

Day 1: https://www.strava.com/routes/2914521
Day 2: https://www.strava.com/routes/2956124

Sent you a follow request on Strava as you'll be cycling some of my regular roads!

Edit, just spotted you've mapped a pretty poor bit of road, I'd recommend this change of it isn't too much hassle to do so. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0c8hxeNOqwuTWpWbllneVdPaWM/view?usp=docslist_api

Does anyone take a little (lightweight) lock when out on longer rides? I'm wondering some way to secure my bike when popping into a village shop or garage for cake / drink. Not sure how well they would fit into jersey pocket though and I can't be doing with things rattling on my frame.

For just popping into a local shop I carry one of these in my saddle bag http://www.wiggle.co.uk/abus-combiflex-202-90cm-cable-bike-lock/

It would take seconds to cut with a pair of side cutters but just stops any unequipped opportunist.

Ooh, Adam Yates has been out round my way today!

Sweet, Matt Rowe (Luke Rowe's brother) and several of the NFTO pro guys (rather than just the usual CC ones) have been around here these past few weeks. Had some stinky weather for them too! Painful looking ride (check the pic and the guy on the left! Ouch!)

Rode home in my new pair of Castelli Evoluzione bibs, very impressed and the XL fit me perfect (tried the XXL around 10 months ago and they were a poor fit!). So much so I've ordered another 2 pairs while they're on sale and in stock...! ;)

I've ordered some "genuine" bibs from dhgate, sure it won't be as silky as others but it'll do me.
Legs are battered tonight. Clocked up 30km tonight in 34c heat. Nearly died.

Can't say I ever bother! Most shops I'd pop into are tiny or in nice areas. Probably foolish, but I've never even worried about it.

Nope they don't, if you mean the bar mount I have one (I bought from wiggle) you can have (only used it for a month or two), the cradle the VIRB sits in it should come with. For an outfront mount I can recommend the Superstar Garmin/GroPro mount.

If you don't want/need it then that would be brilliant. I'm going to get a Virb soon. Starting to worry about my safety a bit, I'll never antagonise people I just want to ensure if anything happens I have proof as a lot of people out there don't like to side with cyclists.

That video last week really hit home, its hilarious but at the same time shows what the country's opinion on cyclists is and how bad people's knowledge on the highway code is.

I'm surprised some people know which side of the road to drive on.

Ive got my bike for sale on ebay with an auction and a buy it now price, the amount of people sending me questions to ask if ive got a buy it now price is unbelievable!

What bike you selling?

The very sad thing about this video is that he'll probably go and take it out on another cyclist somewhere else.

This is what I hope doesn't happen, someone could get badly hurt now because of this video, not even by that driver but by people that are enraged by the cyclists attitude.

If I know I'll want to lock it up for a while, I'll take a Hiplok Lite. Only weighs 1 kg, wraps around your waist, and it's bronze-secure. Easily fits around both mine and the missus' bike at the same time too :)

I'm going to look into this, the lock I have in my work bag is a bit heavy. My main gold secure lock is wayyyyy too heavy and bulky to take around with me.

finally unbanned... yay! :)

What happened? Hahaha

I am looking at changing my Triban 5 frame for a new one (thinking along the lines of the top end alu frames, eg Canyon AL SLX, CAAD10 etc) but I have a few questions with determining frame sizing.

1) How much seatpost do you need to overlap the frame? How is this determined or is it a case of don't worry too much and buy the correct length for the frame? I am wanting to upgrade to a carbon post with the frame change.

2) I am thinking I will be ~56cm frame size, I have been sizing up bikes using a 100mm -6deg stem. Is that about the right size or should I be sizing up with a different size stem?

3) I guess headset spacers are best to keep to a range of 0-30mm to ensure not too much stiffness is lost by having too many spacers. Plus I do hate the look of lots of them. :p

I have been sizing up frames by comparing the distance between BB and handlebars to my current setup. This feels all ok to do as I won't be changing groupset or handlebars when upgrading the frame.

1) I always like to make sure the minimum insert marker on the seatpost is at least at the top tube-seat tube junction

2) 56s tend to come out of the factory with 100-110mm stems

3) start out with a lot of spacers, you can't saw it back on....

how tall are you and how are you proportioned?

I have a Kryptonite Kryptoflex cable combo lock thing which is similar. Costs a tenner. Fits in a pocket and will, as you say, deter the opportunist.

I don't see the point in locks as flimsy as this. It's a false sense of security imo as anyone with a pair of scissors could easily cut through the wire. I'd much rather have uv's lock than that one.

Ah cheers. I wondered who that request was from :)

I'll look into changing the route. The road doesn't look that bad on streetview. Is it much worse than it appears?

The Road itself isn't too bad but it is only ever used for Farm vehicles so it is covered in mud, stones and other debris. The alternative I showed has a bit more traffic but is more flowing and free from junk on the road.

Either will do the job but you rarely get any of the local cyclists going that way.

I don't really want to be carrying 1kg of lock on me for 100km+ rides (though I could just eat less cake and drop the weight off me!).

Thinking of this lock now - 15mm thick but hopefully small enough (60cm) to stuff into a jersey pocket.

look for things like hiplock etc! :) won't feel the weight as much over your hips

I'll be riding 130 miles tomorrow with the HipLok. There's zero chance I'd trust my bike with a 7 quid lock.

Here's one of the 1-star reviews for that lock on Amazon:

"I used this lock for about two weeks before my bike was stolen. The lock was obviously broken in half through the combination section, seemingly without any tools. I don't think this is a very secure lock at all."

I'd much rather carry an extra 1kg about with me than have to get the train home and be a grand out of pocket, because no insurer is gonna pay out for a bike locked up with a £7 piece of plastic and string.
