Exactly what cycling is all about

https://www.strava.com/activities/363919018/overview

Was over on Arran at the weekend with the family etc - got up at 5.30am on saturday morning and was on the road for 5.50am. My own pace, not a care in the world and loved it. Great route, tough climb up from Lochranza but only thing to worry about was the cows and sheep in the road at that time in the morning. Loved it.

Totally in love with my Rose - 10 out of 10 on all counts. Not a single slip/missed change or anything from the Di2.

I've gotta try clockwise next time I'm back up, I've done it a couple of times counter-clockwise but the flat from Lochranza to Blackwaterfoot is almost always in to an evil offshore wind in the afternoon. Sure there's less potholes on that side of the road as well :p

most of the guys I know recommended clockwise for that exact reason - the west side is normally with the wind. Downside is that you've no warm up on the flat from brodick, your climbing as soon as you leave the ferry!:D

Where do you lot stand with cycle insurance? Any thoughts, recommendations?

My bikes are completely covered (I think!) on my home insurance, up to £1500, which is fine, but I'm terrified if I ever go into someone when I'm out :(

There are a lot of idiots on the roads near me atm...

Ouch @0:20 and 0:40

Jeez, poor fella, thats a hell of a crash, but a stupid speed and position to be taking that bend.

If anybody is on catching up with uploads from earlier, do me a favour and kudos this ride:

(Friend's wee boy's first time using strava and he's getting excited about all the kudos :p)

Done.

single speeding this week too... puncture up front on the carby and I CBA to change it :( - ever been so lazy?

Yeah, one of my bottle holders needs moving up, two min job just cba lol. Ill get around to it eventually.

Saddle is a very personal thing, I've just recently changed mine from the default my Giant came with ('Giant Performance Road') to the Charge Spoon. The dimensions were very similar but as the problem with the Giant I was having (numbness/soreness after 3+ hours) was little to do with fit (more a padding issue) I've had success. I told myself for £20 it was certainly worth trying! ;)

Worth the upgrade? I have the same issue with my saddle :(

Been thinking about changing it for a while.

@Jono, agree with Roady. The charge spoon is great, I upgraded from the stock one on my Pinnacle to the spoon and love it.

Going to look at this now.

I dont think you get Pro4s in any other sizes?

edit: oh, sorry, didnt read your post properly. Yes, if you want to move to 28mm, Pro4s are not a good choice :p

V2s are available in 28mm - in fact, to start with, were *only* available in 28mm.

(disclaimer: I had only checked on the Wiggle site previously :p)

What a nightmare this has become...

Found that my front derailer was out of line and such rubbing against my chain as I cycled. Sure, I'll just adjust the derailer slightly and it'll be good... Ohhh no.

I've moved the derailer, undone the tension and bracket to move it and now putting it back. Trying to get it to shift back up but it won't, pulled the cable through as it was before, used the barrel adjuster and set the outside delimiter screw but it won't jump up!

I'm stuck without a bike and it's getting late :/

Is it bent?

Is it bent?

I think it is slightly which is worrying, I couldn't tell though will take a picture.

However, fogured why I had no tension, I didn't realise the gear was pressed so the shifter had some of the tension (excuse my poor terminology) when I realised that I got it back.

But its back how it was -.-, rubbing against the chain on the big gear and high gears gears at the back.

Damn. Weekend job!

I picked out a good route last year that takes you up all the hills on the island from the hardest side:

https://www.strava.com/activities/77740886

The Ross Road is the toughest but tends to be the less travelled, as most people either do the loop or the figure eight over The String. The Ross climbs about 270 metres in 3.5km at an average gradient over 11%. Fun. I grew up on the island, so a wee bit of local knowledge helps. :)

It's an amazing place to ride, apart from the terrible road surface on the south of the island. It's my fave place in the world.

Dick! Couldn't even catch you after those lights!

I missed your group and went I the next and got pumped

Haha, ****, was that you at the temp lights on the Strathaven Rd heading back? Sorry man! I had the momentum from the downhill still and the lights went green at just the right time! :D

We could've done with you in our group as well. ****in' half the group off the back after the Roman Rd with nobody pulling turns, so just me, Vince and Oran. Then Vince punctured before the border, so it was just me on the front into the wind all the way to Muirkirk and back, til the scratch caught us heading back to the Border again.

I was cooked by then as i'd been hammering it on ma tod, so sat in cos it was fast as **** all the way in. And then battered myself up the climb at the bridge at the end and had no legs left for the sprint as usual. Finished in the bunch somewhere. Happy enough given i've been off the bike for a week:

You just get ragdolled in that bunch? Nick K was saying it was pretty speedy from the off.

Deraileur looks like this from both sides;

Front:

It wouldn't move over enough when I moved it manually, or maybe I need to just get it perfect?

EDIT; It needs to be raised more doesn't it?

I was ****ed off as of have made it back having went in the slower group.

It was fast aye, I was working away. Nick, Brian, Jonny, Colin, Stuart and Alan Griffiths all toll good spells. Few folk sat on the back as usual. Wish I had worked a lot less but I was getting sick of shouting up when I was skipping a turn.

Scratch caught us on the drag at the border. I was in the 52 12 up the twisty bit mixing it with Scott and Sean etc.

I seem to suffer with that rough section before it descends to Muirkirk. My feet go numb and I can't get into a stride. Came up the wee back Road in the bunch sitting pretty but just sat up and was myself all the way back to hamimton.

Was in tatters when you passed. Couldn't even jump on your wheel.

Best wheelset for 100-150?

Seen the Mavic Aksium for 120 if that's a good wheelset? They'll be replacing standard wheels off a Giant Defy 3.

I was powered by coffee and cake which helps.

Aye, that wee rise into Muirkirk on the **** road surface is a killer. I hate it. It's always the first place it really kicks on the half nine every Saturday. I need to be near the front or I'll get ma baws toed.

Fair play to you digging in with those guys. Part of me thinks I'd be better off in there as its a bigger group with a lot more folk who put a shift in. Gives a bit of shelter. Was killer battering along maself into that wind for miles. But then I hate that bit at the start on the Roman road when it's always so fast and I'm not warmed up.
