Hmm0r tempted... GP4000IIs or whatever they're called are about £40 each?
Does that still make the Fulcrum Racing 3's deal better value? I can't maths today.

No - no it's not.
But i Have no idea what innertube flavour to get - 23/700 tyreses

'Normal' 12-28cm tubes, not the 25-32 or whatever you sometimes find.

700x25mm tyres are nicer than 23mm. The GP4000IIs' can be found for £30-34, sometimes cheaper (ordered mine yesterday for below £30 from Rose inc delivery).

Me last night catching a guy up on Beeley Bar who overtook me at a ridiculous speed going up the previous hill.

The tour of Britain goes up this hill next month, about 2 miles long, one of nicest hills around here for scenery.

He was taking it very easy on the descent - hardly pedaling! What a slacker! ;)

Road surface looks amazing and smooth! Jealous! :o

There is no benefit to ceramic as a material over a steel bearing.
The benefit of ceramic is that it can be machined to a smoother surface than steel to create a smoother rolling bearing. It still needs all the precision machining work put in to make it a better bearing though so a cheaply made ceramic bearing will likely be worse than a properly machined steel bearing.

(ok, maybe ceramic doesnt rust so that would be a benefit over steel but if your steel bearings are dry enough to start rusting then you're probably not all that bothered about rolling resistance anyway)

I'd read about ceramic being hard enough that the bearings destroy dirt and grime rather than gumming up/damaging along with the lack of rust that if looked after will last for many thousands of miles.

I was looking for an 'upgrade' over the standard ones which started making some noises after only 1500 miles.

Giant website says it takes a standard shimano external threaded bottom bracket, so that's hollowtech ii to you and me.

My Defy 1 2015 is hollowtech (ii?). As it's hollow?! But Hollowtech can be threaded and press fit...? In fact the Giant Defy has different BB's in America and Europe, without different model numbers... :p

I'd previously read (forums) about 'Shimano press fit' (quoted by Giant) as being BB90. But read somewhere today about the BB being 86mm and here it's mentioned as PF86/92 so now I'm totally confused.

The Giant site lists it as 'Shimano press fit' but I know mine isn't Shimano branded, other websites list is as a 'FSA bottom bracket' and with it being an FSA crankset it would make more sense (and explains the lack of branding).

I have a Giant Defy, as an older bike. Pretty sure the standard is known as PF86, as though the axle length is 86mm. However, the standard is an axle diameter of 24mm which suits shimano cranks.

I was powered by coffee and cake which helps.

Aye, that wee rise into Muirkirk on the **** road surface is a killer. I hate it. It's always the first place it really kicks on the half nine every Saturday. I need to be near the front or I'll get ma baws toed.

Fair play to you digging in with those guys. Part of me thinks I'd be better off in there as its a bigger group with a lot more folk who put a shift in. Gives a bit of shelter. Was killer battering along maself into that wind for miles. But then I hate that bit at the start on the Roman road when it's always so fast and I'm not warmed up.
Gutted I wasn't in your group then! Would have worked my socks off just at much and hopefully made it back.

They need to sort the groups out a bit better but I don't know how!

Bundy on Thursday? Will get to see me dying again :)

Ive done about 900 miles on my zondas, cant fault them, the wiggle reviews are pretty good overall.

My rear lasted just short of 12 months & 5,000 miles before the hub decided to eat itself along with the braking surface.
The front however is still going strong, although it's now a spare (winter wheel)

Although I found them nice wheels, I woudn't buy another pair.

Currently using a pair of Prolite A42 Bracciano's which I picked up in the sale at Wiggle for £320.
Very impressed with them, they've done around 1800 miles so far & can't fault them so far.

my shoes are finally going kaboom after around 8k miles in all weather :o got a hole near my thumb, peek-a-boooooo

Lololololol-o. Quote gold.

So 6800 cranks would fit fine (mines 5800)?

And this wouldn't be compatible: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-bb-r60-ultegra-6800105-5800-hollowtech-ii/ as it's an external/threaded and not press-fit?

Yeah, should be there tomorrow. Heading over to Arrochar to climb the Cobbler with the family during the day but should be back in time. Not sure what the climb will do for my legs later, but i guess i'll find out. :)

Somewhat baffled how we're concluding a 2015 defy 3 takes a press fit bb when the giant webpage for the 2015 defy 3 says it takes a htii bb
