I'm doing a 63 mile Sportive from Stratford on Avon to the Cotswolds today with about 1,200 meters climbing.
The conditions couldn't be any better : about 18C with a 1 to 3mph wind - perfect!!! :)

So makes a change from driving rain and 30mph+ headwinds.

Last man out of the water. Way over the time limit and they wouldn't let me carry on.

I couldn't swim when I entered though so I still see the swim as some achievement!

Went and did our local 50 mile sportive ride today:

Had an awesome sunny day for it so lots of riders out. Our club had been asked to lead it out, so we got to line up at the front at the start line with all the kids from the club. Was really cool to roll out in a bike group like that with all the wee dudes.

I'd planned to take it pretty easy as i've had some hard rides this week and got my ass kicked yesterday on our bunch ride. But got cajoled into a wee break away about half way around by one of the other guys in the club. We'd been in a group of 15 or so at the front all the way round, fast but steady. There's a climb of about 5km and when we got to the top he just said 'You reckon we could stay away if we went for it here?'. I was dying after the hill tbh but we went anyway and managed to get about 40 secs before we got held up by traffic about 10 miles later and everyone caught us. So we waited until the last climb of the ride and went for it again and made it stick this time. He rolled in first and i was about 30 seconds behind. Was good fun however for health and safety reasons i must state that it is not a race. :D

A couple of slow and easy rides this weekend as a few of us went to visit a friend that has moved to Frodsham. Lots of nice Cheshire lanes and some less fun times on the B5152. Not a nice road.

Raced a flatish 2/3 race today over 64 miles. Happy that I felt pretty decent throughout, helped launch one team mate into the winning break with 20 to go, then tried to get a break myself for the last 5 miles, got a decent gap, then was joined by two others, but we ended up being caught with 400m to go, when shortly after there was a huge crash with several broken bike and potentially some collar bones.

No riding for me all of last week or this weekend. Spent most of last week completely fatigued for seemingly no particular reason, then came down with a really heavy flu-like virus on Friday. Blurgh. Explains the fatigue though, and I'm all the more looking forward to getting on two wheels tomorrow.

Unless it's raining...

Hey guys, only recently got into road cycling so am fairly new to all this.

Went and did 3 laps around Richmond Park today. On my final lap I felt that my lower back started to ache and now my quads are rather sore. Does this sound like I need to correct my seating position or is this just fatigued muscles?

Perhaps just because you're not used to it. I got some back aches when I was testing road bikes in Richmond Park after many a mile on my hybrid there. Stretching afterwards might help too.

Yeah if you are new then you'll get a bit sore just getting used to cycling, make sure not to over-do it. It's a good idea to get your saddle roughly set up though, pretty easy with helper or a turbo.

This is a great vid of what a professional bike fit is all about

I'm not getting anywhere near enough miles in so I've decided to use my bike to actually get to places rather than just ride non stop in a loop from home. While I'm happy with my cheap locks for a 45 second stop at a local shop I've decided I need something that can't be cut with a stern look so I've treated myself to a HipLok as I'm not really a fan of mounting locks on my bikes.

First use will be on Saturday as I'm going canoeing with a few people from work and it is only 14 miles from home, be rude to take the car that distance! Bike better still be there when I get back!

Nah, I'm not that worried to be honest but my current lock is mere 2.5mm thick cable! I could cut that with the multi tool I carry...

It is covered on the household insurance should the worst happen anyway.

Just make sure you check your Ts and Cs as the insurance may only cover it if it's locked up with some ludicrous lock.

Not necessarily, your BB might just be knackered unless it's made noises since day one? If it has then there are somethings you can try to prevent squeaking, like Loctite.

It has made noises from quite early... Around 600 miles or so (almost 1900 now).

From the factory my BB lasted 6k.

The replacement (steel bearings from a bearing shop ;) ) I had pressed in and the proper loctite (641 from memory) used by the LBS who are a Cervelo dealer.

Done 12k since and no problems, however when the first one failed it went from being good to ruined inside 2km so it was a sudden failure.

I'm not really sure mine has got 'worse' as I don't generally hear it when commuting, only when really pushing power down at speed or climbing hard.

I know its not really nothing to do with my, but my friend has tried the "Everest Challenge" where he attempted to cycle it in one day, one sitting! He managed 23685ft in one day, 13 hours and 117 miles.. He failed but he said he is going to try again. Its the most climbing I have ever seen on Strava.. Anyone else got similar? Its just insane really!!

Still good going, although 23,685ft is quite a big amount - far higher than any european mountain! He climbed as high as the 101st highest peak, shame he couldn't do a few more to make it top 100! :o

ah crap

did anyone reply to my post about me giving away my Brocken zip topeak saddle bag? did anyone want it?

Don't recall anyone saying mate.

I have no idea how people can do a ride like this every day for a year! Top day out though https://www.strava.com/activities/369747984

Saw this one on Strava great ride mate! You should get a plaque made - 'The Day I Rode More Than Steve Abraham' ;)

Lovely ride yesterday (Sunday) morning - seemed to the be the first time in ages the ride didn't involve a headwind slog. Was so nice in places I was happy to be in the inner ring on the flat and just trundle along, listening to the birds and enjoying the view
