I've started adding a few of you guys on Strava, hope you don't mind. If you see a guy called Alan then thats me :)

Aye I did that after your first reply, had a brainwave :D

Thank you very much!

Okay, I need some wheels! Tyres are gaining flats across the tyre so they might need replacing soon. About 1k miles on them now, May have another 500 in them, lasted longer than my Giants did to be honest.

I were thinking Aksiums at £170 but they've dropped to £117 now, may go for them unless anyone knows a better deal? Budget still £170 plus then I'll need some 4000s ii's.

I can get Aksiums and two GP4000s ii's for £178 delivered.

Campag Khamsins from Merlin at £90ish.

at this rate everyone on this thread will have some

Even with not having done any exercise previously, since May, even I can do 30miles in under 2hours.

Just make sure you don't make it feel a chore and enjoy it. :)

That's good going, 2 hours in the saddle/30 miles is a good distance to aim for soon after you're starting out. Without regular riding you've done well to get to that stage!

Enjoying it is the main thing, if that's pushing yourself, if it's enjoying the fresh air and countryside, it's all good!

had zero issues with GP4 seasons for nearly 3k miles on my CAAD8 - might go back to them for now.

Very happy with my 4 Seasons, good sale on them at Wiggle although 25mm now out of stock. :(

Sounds like a good deal James, although I can really rate the Khamsins. Mine have done nearly 900 miles and going strong! Guy at my work liked them and has now bought some Zonda's. I believe others here are running them and the Scirocco's which are around your budget but quite a big rim (also out of stock on Wiggle). Anyone tried the Vento's? Seem like one up on the Khamsin's?

Saw & added!

Got a week off next week, contemplating heading up to perhaps the Surrey Hills, I've done a few small rides around there before (40 or so miles) Just wondering if a) anybody has recommendations b) fancy a ride, or even just a cake stop if you're about.

Oooooh!

What tubs is everyone running?
My clicky finger is ready to hit buy on the Conti Competition's (25mm). But please let me know if anyone has better experience with other tyres or what your thoughts are :D

If you stay local I'll come on a ride with you. You owe me an ice cream or a cake anyway :) Sent you an email!

Commute in this morning was good, very fresh though, will have to start considering leg/arm warmers :/
Felt very tired this morning, and legs were heavy. I think my body is slowly becoming more efficient, I guess the longer and hillier commutes have helped. My average HR seems to be gradually dropping, but my average speed is remaining roughly the same. I'm either getting stronger, or being bloody lucky with tail winds :)

Quick question about tube and tyre sizes.
I got my first puncture on the road bike a couple of days ago, my spare tubes don't seem to fit the tyres though. I have 23mm tyres, and the tubes are Continental Race 28 (700x20-25), but I just can't get the tyre to fold in over them. Did I buy the wrong tubes?
The tubes that came with the bike were 700x18-23, but I only seem to be able to buy them from Planet X

Vittoria Evo CX III 23mm glued with Vittoria Mastik One.

It's spring (almost) but it's started already, magpie attack season! Some people think putting eyes on the back of their helmet stops it... Nothing stops it, all the animals are out to get you here!

@xdcx

What are you using the wheels for? That will influence tub choice. :)

Racing only :)
They might see the odd use on fast training rides and stuff but they will only be used for racing and in the dry if I can help it!

The Vittoria are indeed a good bit cheaper and I like the look of them. A good amount of reviews saying the durability is terrible but if only using for racing I don't think it will be much of an issue.... Can't help but think a bit more durability would only help though, our roads up here are horrific most of the time.

Same.
I just stuck my wheels into the shop and asked them to glue on whatever tyres they thought were best.

They lose air very quickly (I think it may be because of the latex tubes in them?). Not a problem for race wheels because you'll check the pressures before each race but the next day they'll have gone soft and in 2 days completely flat.

Forecast for Sunday morning looks utter garbage - thunderstorms and heavy rain.

Time to dust off the turbo and "enjoy" Sufferlandrian National Day. Official challenge is I****IATT and Angels back-to-back. Vomtastic!

Mine still have tyre pressure after a week of about 20-30 psi.

The very first one I glued cut up after 2 rides.

The last two I glued I had in the garage for 6 months, and I've done maybe 1000km on them, no flats and the rear has just started to cut up a little bit.

There is a lot of crap that goes round about ageing tyres to stop them cutting up, if it's true or not I don't know....

I think in the UK with it being wet more often that will cause them to get cut or puncture, we still have glass and gravel on the roads here.

That's atrocious. Definitely see if you can get that replaced. Not up to standard that, I've luckily had no problems with any of my Conties.

as I say - had GP4 seasons on my CAAD8 for 2000 miles and no issues at all bar one puncture.

I need to get a replacement myself just now - don't want to wait a week or so for them to send me one- and not sure what to do - stick with GP4000sII's for the rear, or change both?

These? Should be ok with 25mm's, unless you have some strange really wide rims or something?!

I've used these (700 x 18/25c) before ok on 23mm and 25mm. Last batch were these unbranded from ITS (bought 10).
