I don't particularly care either way about discs in pro cycling, aside from the fact that it will mean better and cheaper technology will trickle down to me.

Some (not everyone here) people come out with utterly ridiculous reasons as to why discs are bad though - those kind of comments are quite tiresome.

Gald you enjoyed yourself, brutal stuff! Was speaking to a software contractor here who's doing some work with us and he went over with a load of friends, they rode lots of Flanders and then the Roubaix sportive before watching the race. He said the whole roubaix sportive was a waste of time/effort as there's tons of boring flat before the bergs, he said there was a 'half' sportive of ~50/60 miles which would've been better as it still did all the climbs without the wasted time on the flats?! He only came a cropper ones (on the Patterberg) as there was a patch of it which looked like dirty tarmac between cobbles and was just thick sandy mud! He rode it on his normal roadbike with normal 23mm tyres! But don't think they were pushing particularly hard. Maybe one day, jealous! :p:D
Sounds like he rode the full Flanders route which I did last year. The first 1/3 of the ride is just getting from Bruge to Oudenarde which is a good distance in itself; then the cobbles start. Yea, its a kinda pointless bit of the ride as nothing happens until you get to Oudenarde. The cobbles start almost immediately on the Roubaix.

I did Flanders on 23's last year and foolishly put 110psi in them. Was going at a snail pace. Ouch!

Getting back on track, im all for disc 100% and will unlikely move back to rim, unless I find a decent 2nd hand deal to replace my carbon road.

I dislike riding in groups & happy living with TT rules/no drafting.
Ride your own ride. ;):D

Heh. By the time I'm 36 my kids will be 12 and 9... They'll be at uni or otherwise moving out by the time I'm in my mid to late 40s!
Thanks for making me feel old!:p:o

You can do it with the PAYE wages. My tax code was wrong last year and they asked me what to set it as taking into account P11D benefits... just tell them incorrect value and you'll have a rebate at end of year. Mind you, it would be better to have the money sooner so you can earn interest on it.
The hassle to do that with my employer hardly makes it worth it, I guess doing that I'd be taking the rental income as part of my personal allowance and then PAYE calculated on top of it? With the rental income always varying (year after year) then the chances of my tax code changing would be quite high, throw on top of that more of my PAYE wages falling outside of the PA. The hassle and work it'd be (to avoid paying little/none on my SA which takes my wages and PAYE into account anyway) doesn't really make it worthwhile, not when we're talking maybe £300 max! I'd rather pay it in a lump sum and then get a rebate as it's a nice little 'gift' of a few hundred quid which usually arrives in spring/summer ready to book a holiday! As this years (Orlando) was booked and paid for over winter I'm 'investing' it into a bit of a wheelset 'project'. I'll be telling 'her' they're parts for rebuilding some wheels (as she knows I want to do this) but in reality it'll be 80% second hand wheelset and 20% me changing the rear hub from 10 speed to 11 speed! :D

Get a child carrier rack?

I'm waiting for a good deal on the Tacx Vortex Smart turbo... seems nice enough.
My grand plan will be to encourage the kids to watch Zwift on TV to 'see who wins'... Now if only it was a little more exciting for little spectators lol ;)

The Vortex is good but I believe you need to buy an accessory to get the ANT+/Bluetooth communication? The Bushido is the updated version which I believe has it included out of the box, has a higher max wattage and is self powered (the Vortex requires to be plugged into mains).

love my disc brakes, would love a set of those hydraulic shifters as well but not at that much cash :o as a non-racer discs basically mean zero maintenance for 2+ years straight.

I'd imagine discs would be much better in the TDF where they can be descending in wet conditions with carbon rims at 50+mph.

My neighbour caught me this morning as I was leaving for work, told me he's just bought a bike for himself to get fit again & lose a little weight (not that he's a bloater anyway)
It's nothing special, a Halfords jobbie, but the impressive thing for me is that he's 75 years old.

I told him that if I'm still cycling at that age I'll be well happy. :D

People with disc equipped bikes = Unhappy, some grumbling.
People without disc equipped bikes = Not bothered, some smirking.

Can we go back to talking about chamois cream, beer and arm warmers please?

Fair play to your neighbour. If I can still ride then I'd be pleased.

Q: Do you guys wear boxers with your bib shorts?

Being all new to this, I do, I can't imagine how cold my balls would get. Albeit nice lycra type ones, but nonetheless, I wear them.

Mate at work was like, nah, what are you doing?! You're all wrong...!

Yeah you do but those USB dongles aren't really too expensive. Bushido looks nicer but not sure I want to spend quite that much since I already price creeped from an Elite fluid deal that was £120 on Wiggle a few months back. Vortex max wattage is 800 watts, while Bushido is 1400 watts. No idea what I can really put out... should have tried the wattbike sitting at Dimension Data's stand the other day or the juicer bike :D

Holy Guacamole!
Someone fetch me my beating stick, this ones getting a battering.

Undo your wrong and wicked ways immediately boy!

No. Never wear underwear with bib shorts. Buy some chamois cream as well to lube up your accoutrements :D

Ok.

Can someone measure their knee warmers please? Ideally Rapha/Castelli Nanoflex/Galibier or such. Loose or worn doesn't matter but just tell me which!

My Sportful NoRain have lasted me well but I suspect they are stretched as I've been wearing them as leg warmers due to me having short legs (they cover 1"-2" overlap of my shorts and finish 1" above my Sidi Hydro (within shoecovers if I wear them). They're 46cm long loose and 48-50cm long when worn. I'm after some ~30cm long worn (perfect knee warmer length for my short legs!).:p

Assos, yuck, Rapha. Next!
Assos really that bad? My local shop/club I ride with have their club kit from Santini (which I've never bought, apart from a windproof gilet) and it's drastically overpriced. They've had an Assos rep come round and will be getting a range of the kit from them, I'm much more interested in it now! ;)
I wear them.
NO! (apologies I cannot make this bigger)
lube up your accoutrements :D
I nominate accouterments as 'Word of the day' for tomorrow.

The jury is out on knee warmers. I am not so sure if you are allowed Roady. I will need to populate the rules and form an opinion specifically for knee warmers.... I am tempted to think it's full covered or full bare (and shaven). No middle ground. 3/4's are for lassies.

Has a hard man and/or any Belgian been pictured in knee warmers? I need conclusive evidence before we can move on.

Have to agree here. I don't really see the point in leaving a small portion of shin uncovered (taking into account socks) so just wear full leg warmers or none at all.
