Is it new? A lot of the time I think they just make one size and then give you different plastic shims to make it fit smaller ones. You can buy them seperately but a fiver for a tiny bit of plastic seems like a bit of a rip off. Could just use electrical tape :p

Good ride over Rivington (the easy way) today. Fairly sure I Pb'd my time for Chorley Old Road climb out of Horwich though I suspect because we stopped at the top to wait for the others I've not got a PR!

Saw tonnes of people going up Rivington, all with a variety of expressions on their faces, some dismounted and walking! Its not that hard a climb! Good ride out and I took a fairly long turn on the front on the way back and am pretty much knackered now as it was fairly speedy and into the wind! Note to self, get the changes going when you're knackered! :D

Fair bit of pollution in the air today though and it triggered off my asthma towards the end. Didn't really hinder me but I was unable to take a really deep breath without coughing towards the end. Hopefully it will blow over in a day or two. Could barely see Winter Hill for the majority of the time as it was shrouded in hazy smog:

Today's ride: https://www.strava.com/activities/568313480/overview

Very hot in the sun! Because of my sunburn the other day, I had my Castelli UPF 50+ sleeves on: they worked really well, but I did feel the heat in places, mainly on the exposed climbs.

Started early this morning and I'm glad I did... was far too warm and humid on the way back at noonish.

Surrey was absolutely full of cyclists today. Not particularly fond of the pelotons riding 3 abreast on narrow roads at 5mph though... hard to get past.

Yeah that annoys me too, I experience it more to the south of Manchester, massive groups of club riders moving pretty slowly and often taking over the whole of the road making it a pain to get past.

I think my club are fairly considerate in that respect. As a standard we ride as a group of 8, 2 abreast. If 12 riders turn out then we might go as one group, but often its around 8 riders.

My shimano road shoes are starting to flex and bend in the middle so will be looking to replace them soon. I have narrowed my choice down to either the Fizik RB5 or Giro E70. I prefer the look of the fizik (in fact my flat mate just got a pair and they are lovely in person!) but i get the impression the E70's are the better shoe? Anybody have any experience of either with long term use? :D

Yup... most are fine, just the odd few about. Some groups even say hello... which is very non London/Surrey spirit :p

anyone see a video today on road cc, where a cyclist was looking at the Shard in London and go head-on into a BMW?

I saw that but I thought the conclusion was that the BMW was on the wrong side of the road? Some speculation that the BMW could be parking up... but parking up on a zig zag..?

ah right, I don't know the road, but I did think it's a one way street

No, it's a two way road. The BMW was obviously pulling up at the hotel on the wrong side of the road but the cyclist wasn't looking where he was going. I would say it was the cyclists fault.

If I remember correctly my Fulcrum Racing 5s did the same when I first got them in 2011. Went from thinking I was lucky to getting a quiet set after reading online how loud they were supposed to be, to them buzzing like mad after about 2 rides. 5 years later and they're still fine (albeit still noisy!)

Ah, that puts my mind at rest! It isn't a bad "I'm destroying my mechanical bits" sound but it is a bit annoying. Handy when you come up to people walking or wobbling their way all over the lanes though :D

Had one of those rides where you think damn that was a bit of a struggle today and only when you stop do you see it was a bit quicker than you intended. Uploaded to Strava and it is a sea of gold and silver :p

34.9mm is 34.9mm. The 31.8mm clamp comes with shims to take it down to the older 28.6mm size.

MTB mechs usually come as 34.9 with two different sized spacers to reduce the size.

Chuffed with my ride to work this morning, tailwind assisted I'd say. I did put a dig in where I'd usually wee chainring it though!

Riding home into headwind with 5 litres of coolant in my bag wasn't Fonzie though!

practically the same speed but the way in is mostly uphill. Can break 20mph average on the way home sometimes.

So annoyed!

Did a 118mi ride today which was great but the day was ruined when I lost my tool bottle containing £40 of kit AND my flat/work keys.

Rode 13 more miles looking for it but someone must have picked it up.:(

I blame the UK's shoddy road surface and my saddle-mounted bottle cage's lack of grip.

I used a saddle mounted cage once...and had a bottle fall out twice on one ride...in the bin it went! There's just too much flex in the mount meaning it bounces up and down over the harsh uk roads.

Although saying that, I lost a brand new bottle on the IoW last weekend :( glad it was £1.39 and not a £15 rapha one though :D

Who spends 15 quid on a rapha bottle?

I need one for my TT bike though as I have to be able to carry 4 bottles for the Ironman!

I actually think I'll go for the ghetto option of taping them in.:o

They are only £12 and they retain a Camelbak design you can longer buy from Camelbak which is better than the new design IMO.

Car was pulling up on the zigzag lines - surely the car drivers at fault?

Plus isn't it always a BMW drivers fault :D
