What's the best multi tool with a chain tool on it that's still pretty compact?
My chain exploded everywhere yesterday on my way to pick up my still broken and costs lots of money to fix car... but the bike worked well as a scooter.

I didn't have a spare link anyway, as I've lost it and Sigma Sport didn't deliver my new ones yet :(

Yesterday was ****e

You can get those valve core removers when you buy fast forward valve extenders.

I thread lock my valve cores in so the track pump doesn't undo them. Still easily removable by hand if you need to though.

Topeka Hexus II is a belter, though the tyre levers aren't great.

+1

Though if you have tyres that are difficult to get on and off the rims, I recommend getting some stronger tyre levers as the ones on the multitool aren't that strong. I snapped one of mine when repairing a puncture on the Great Manchester Cycle.

In other news, Londoners, the RP TT entries are open!

Thomas will destroy us all but would be good to get the OcUK crew involved.:D

Speaking of which I just went round this morning... Felt quite good so tried for a PR. Unfortunately got held up by quite a lot of cars (Does everyone get Friday off work?!!) but still shaved 10 seconds off.

The last stretch was tough as I was trying to make up lost time from the cars! Almost 2 miles at zone fiveish HR.

Not sure I'm anywhere near fast enough to have any chance at a TT though! (+ let's add the no TT bike, aero gainz, silly o'clock start time :D)

You can do it on a road bike and it's early on a Sunday so that there is no traffic :p

I don't stand a chance of ranking highly but I'm just using it to test myself in a timed, race-like environment. It gives a bit more incentive to try hard then on a typical park visit. Also, the actual course is probably not a path you'd normally take around the park.

Turns out that a 1300 mile old chain on a shiny new cassette isn't the best of ideas. First ride with my new wheels wasn't great and a check when I got home showed me that while my back was turned my chain stepped over the 0.75% worn threshold.

Fitted a new Shimano chain today, managed to balls it up on two levels. Firstly I didn't pay attention to where I shortened it and ended up with two wide ends, I also made it a bit short. Had to use the snap off link to add an extra link and a half and then used a KMC quick link thing. Oh well, does the job and it now shifts like a dream and no longer sounds like the chain is chewing at the gears. I think it might be a link shorter than the old one still but it works fine in every gear so... 0.5g saved? Marginal gainz and all that :p

I assumed that my bike had a Shimano chain from the spec sheet but after removing it turns out it was a KMC. I probably have noticed in the past but forgot about it, will be interesting to see if the Shimano one lasts longer.

The freehub on my Khamsins rapidly went from silent to buzzy (over the course of about 20 miles) but I'm not sure if that is the grease just being distributed around or if I should be concerned?

If I remember correctly my Fulcrum Racing 5s did the same when I first got them in 2011. Went from thinking I was lucky to getting a quiet set after reading online how loud they were supposed to be, to them buzzing like mad after about 2 rides. 5 years later and they're still fine (albeit still noisy!)

Bleurgh, my cold is not shifting. I was going to go out tomorrow and Sunday but I'm going to rest up tomorrow and hopefully go for a decently quick flat ride on Sunday morning.

I need to do some climbing sometime soon... I've barely done any yet this year. Maybe in a couple of weeks. I've got a metric century route with four and a half thousand feet of climbing which I'd like a crack at soon. I've done all the individual hills a few times, but never strung together in one go.

My canyon came yesterday, 3 days before their scheduled week! Going out for 20 miles to see how she's setup. Very pleased with the looks of it. Now to see how it rides

Gently check your rear derailleur stops are set properly so it doesn't smack into the spokes. I went out once after buying a bike via mail order (was 16 at the time, my first road bike - Raleigh Quasar) went out on its first ride and wrapped the rear derailleur round the spokes, to say I was gutted was an understatement.

Wow, powertap G3 wheelset just went for £290 on eBay. It needs an 11 speed free hub, but even adding that on would only take it to £325. I'm trying to remember the massive repair costs that can go with these units, otherwise I'll get tempted by a deal like that...

Replacing the bearings in the older hub like mine SL+ can be done DIY. They just scare you about the torque tube so you send it in to them.

Where can you get an 11 speed freehub for 35 quid?

I guess having the 10 speed hub machined would be easy since it's just press fit.

Wise words. That exact thing happened on the first canyon I bought. So it was the first thing I checked this time!

Boooo, bought a replacement front mech for my winter bike on eBay, advert explicitly says it's 31.8mm band on... Arrives today and it's 34.9mm. What a pain in the bum.
