I really don't know how I haven't chucked my Garmin 810 down a drain yet... 20 mins into ride and it shuts off again... it seems to be doing it recently without even using navigation.

In other news joined the knee warmer club today with some Planet X cheapo merino ones. Quite nice even though there's only about 2 inches of each calf showing so almost leg warmers!

Weather for the Velothon Wales isn't looking great at all this weekend... I think I'm going to have to take a whole range of clothing and see how the weather is looking in the morning.

I am doing the Velothon and I am in the 7:40 wave. As a Cardiff resident I wouldn't take much notice of the forecast until Friday, but I am preparing for heavy showers!

I am just hoping it clears up as cycling 87 miles in the rain will be unpleasant.

Get yourself a Wahoo Elemnt Lethal. I've been very happy with it. The battery life isn't fantastic sadly, but the map is easy to read and the features are cool. I love the auto upload without the phone too. When I get home it connects to the WiFi and that's it. The screen is super easy to read too.

Do a full reset on it check the Garmin forums for what to back up. You'll be surprised how well it works.

My 810 has been a pain too, but recently just with sync'ing. Takes me 4-5 forced restarts just to get it to 'autosync' to Garmin connect.

Have a great time at the Velothon, be prepared for anything as coming north you'll get changes in the weather regardless of what it's like in Cardiff! Abergavenny (Tumble) can be totally different weather to Hereford, they're only 25 miles apart! Although weirdly it's usually warmer than here!?

Hmm, I never seem to have an issue with bluetooth syncing. The USB syncing is often iffy though. I might do a factory reset later and see how it goes...

Thanks! Cardiff isn't that much more North than London :p I don't think I've been to Wales without rain before... used to do a lot of hiking in the Brecon Beacons/Snowdonia. Last February a spontaneous blizzard appeared while scrambling Tryfan!

Good luck too! Think I'll at least have a rain jacket on standby and some arm warmers... if it's looking terrible might even have to wear a soft shell. Hopefully there are no incidents with the other locals getting annoyed about road closures.. I saw that last year some clown decided to put tacks on a descent. The Facebook event page has a few locals having a moan on it.

If it was available at the time I'd have been very tempted. I managed to get the 810 for £170 from Halfords in the end so a pretty good deal but very frustrating that it has reliability issues! How is the battery life? I occasionally do the odd 100 miles so I guess 7-8 hours actual screen on time. I would have expected it can manage that based on the size and it's screen.

Hill reps this morning but I've overdone it and had nothing.

How does perceived effort compare for training I wonder....

Normally do 3 efforts of 330-350w, each taking about 10:30.

Today did 3x 12mins at 300w I could feel my legs had nothing more in them felt like they were at 95%, anything moe would have been unsustainable, lungs were only working at 75%.

Been here a lot with proper structured training lately.
Training with power and HR then utilising a PMC is very worthwhile if you don't. RPE is a waste of time for gauging where you are at and how you should be performing as I've seen me feel awful before a session and then on the bike I perform amazingly, then other days feel buzzing for my session only to get on the bike and feel totally flat.

Acute and Chronic fatigue is a hard one to master but worthwhile trying. Along with diet, previous few days sleep, stuff going on in your life off the bike etc. Heart Rate is a great first brief and quick look analysis (sometimes). If it is high in the morning or higher than normal when you are warming up this is a sign that you are under heavier fatigue and rightfully won't perform at your best, BUT, I have recently had a bout of low HR and being unable to raise it and was feeling fla/underperforming, so even that can go both ways.

Basically, power alone, HR alone or RPE is not the answer to gauging your body/performance/fatigue. Combinbing all, using a PMC to track and forecast and pulling it all together is as best as you are going to get to nailling it, but even then it won't be 100% The joys of the human body!

Nice! i was thinking of ordering one of those! they are very reasonably priced. More pics please:D

btw. Sent you a msg in trust about the Aeroad clamp

To get mine to sync via Bluetooth I have to turn it off after a ride has been saved then turn it back on again. Sometimes I don't have to, but 90% of the time I do. Bit of a pain, otherwise, its brilliant.

I've got one and they are great, however, I didn't think about where I'd store it when I bought it! Its massive and won't fit through the hatch into my loft...so it just lives in the spare room! D'oh!

I'll get some more pics and write up on it. See what it's like and how it compares.

@Kimi cheers for that mate! I'll give that a try. It's a pain otherwise, just been trying to put up with numb hands with it pushing me forward.

I am looking to buy a packable jacket to protect me from showers/wind when riding in warmer conditions. I currently own a pretty heavy weight Autumn/winter jacket but this makes me sweat buckets so my key requirement is breathability. I appreciate that it costs the earth to combine breathability and water resistance but I am happy to sacrifice the latter in order that I can keep the jacket on after 10 minutes of effort!

I don’t really want to spend more than £80 and was hoping to have the jacket before Sunday (Wales Velothon which looks like it is going to be 14 degrees with showers!). Over lunch have narrowed it down to these two:-

https://www.evanscycles.com/sportful-hot-pack-5-jacket-EV203900

https://www.evanscycles.com/endura-fs260-pro-adrenaline-race-cape-EV168770

Has anyone had experience with either of these or has any other recommendations? I am edging towards the Endura but want to check before I dive in. Ta

If it's anything like the Endura Xtract - which I have, and which is pretty good - then it's definitely not race cut.

The item's description does say "Race Cape by Endura is a lightweight, translucent waterproof and breathable jacket in an athletic fit".

I guess that is more of a Scottish "athletic" fit than say Italian!
