I don't understand these "£2k for 105" comments. It shows we're guilty of just looking at the named parts we recognise. The idea is that I t's £2k for a hell of a frame. The groupset is not the key part here, and in any case 105 is perfectly serviceable. Would you rather pay £2,250 for the same bike with ultegra, or £2,500 with dura ace, or the thick end of £3k for di2?

I'd rather pick another manufacturer with a superb frame with higher spec components for same/less money :p It's not a case of being guilty of that, all the manufacturers have a frame which they sub set price wise based on components, so of course we are going to determine the scale upon which it sits based on said components and then compare that against the same scale of other manufacturers. It's the one common thing we can place them all price wise against to come to a conclusion.
 
Indeed... I don't understand people that don't understand using components to compare bikes tbh. Comparing frames is extremely tough to do. Comparing numbered parts is extremely easy. It's also not like drive train has no bearing on how nice a bike is to ride either.
 
The AR has had a premium over the F and Z models for the last few years.

The F5 or Z5 with 105 come in at £1500 with 105 which is obviously a better price.

I'm led to believe most bikes will be going up in price over a lot of brands.

The AR5 started at £1800 and changed to £1900 middle of the year. New one is dearer but does come with a good set of tyres on it!
 
and you can get a planet x pro carbon with 105 for £899. where does it end?

the frame, fork, wheels, tyres and contact points account for 90% of how the bike feels to ride. I'd rather have chorus on a perfect frame than record on a very good frame any day.

That's the problem, but comparing the groupset isn't really the best solution. A terrible frame with a high end groupset will ride badly. A great frame with a low end groupset will ride well. Never mind even considering the lardarse on the saddle which will make the most difference to how fast you can go, which is what most of this sort of fretting is ultimately about.

Now obviously you'd expect some correlation between high end groupsets and high end frames, but it's not like 105 is rubbish.

I have a £2500 mountain bike frame, one winter I built it up with Alivio (Claris equivalent) parts for mudbath duties to save my XTR (dura ace).

it was still 95% of the bike it had been before. A cervelo R5 with tiagra will still be a better bike than a budget carbon frame with ultegra.
 
I think most people that post here regularly know that a good frame makes a big difference but it's also something that is overstated a lot so I take it a pinch of salt.
 
Rained off today, had planned about 45m/3,500ft. Tbh though I needed a 'recovery' ride as my lifting has been effected a bit this week by overeaching a bit I think.

Stuck a film on the turbo & got settled instead. Did standing drills every 5 minutes during work intervals for 30-45s to restore bloodflow which has left me completely pain free in the sit bone region :) after the last 2hr:15m turbo with zero standing I was almost in agony :eek:.

Modern TT bikes are so bloody ugly! although that does remind me of the lightbikes in Tron for some reason! :D

Lovely day today for a spin, once the sun came out, was pretty toasty in my gabba and underlayer, shame about the bloody wind, and found a new favourite summer stop! Independent Ice Cream place!

TBH, The Felt does LOOK a £2k bike, where as those Planet X bikes do look cheapo :p
 
I have a spare frame and forks from an old bike, I'm looking to build it back up but with newer parts such as groupset and wheels (due to car breaking them :mad: )

Any guides on how to build one?
 
Thoroughly check the frame for damage first. Any cracks will most likely result in a lot of heartbreak.

But in terms of how to do it, what frameset is it?
