I think that's the one I use, and been using it for years, best money I've spent on any cycling gear

if it is that one, its a softshell, very good in the wet and its warm, they call it a jacket when its not really

EDIT// That transformer one seems alike a damn good price, id get that to be honest, unless your riding in the dark, then the night vision is the one to get

SL

I've ordered some more, £11 :/ that's ridiculous. They'll be here by the weekend so I need to put up until then.

One of the many joys of SLs sadly :( One of the reasons I use regular SPDs.

Was it against rules? I saw it was deleted but no reason was given so I thought it was because I was spamming?

I'll delete.

Yeah. The moderator could've added a reason to the post but on the other hand you've been here a while...

Don't walk about so much in 'race' shoes if you're worried about wear!

Had a few customers completely destroy a set of cleats after having to walk because of a puncture.

Hope nobody noticed my crap average for my ride the other night. Was getting my brother out on our second ride together, had to push him or have him pull on my jersey for the last 8 or so miles as he was destroyed!

I don't let that kind of thing worry me personally :) If I'm riding with someone else I'll ride at their pace and not think much about it, unless I'm literally dying inside from how slow it is.

Might get both, one for commuting (it's getting dark) and the transformer one for weekends/spring onwards, plus I plan on getting a white frame bike next year, so it'll match. :p

My left cleat will not clip in.. Literally won't clip into position at all.

On other news, stopped on a hill today, accidently, left cleat wouldn't unclip, there were blood.

Sounds like it's worn out. How old is it?

1500/1800 miles old

SPD or SPD-SL? If SL, they're fairly old by this point.

1800 miles?!?! I've got 4'000 on mine and they are still fine. In fact I think my winter ones are on to about 6k IIRC Not sure what you've been doing with them, too much waking to the cafe's?

I was just sat in 39-14 or so spinning away at his pace. I would sprint away at sections and ease up for him to catch up so I was getting some benefit from the ride.

Ah, I didn't know it would make a difference, can I put standard SPD cleats on R540 pedals?

I don't walk around in them that much, I dismount and walk into and out of the factory on a daily basis.

I think it depends on the sort of riding you're doing. If you're commuting in them and doing lots of clipping in and out at town junctions then I'd expect considerably more wear than if you're just hammering out 60 mile rides in the countryside with maybe a dozen places you need to unclip.

Very true.

Trying to take today as a rest day as I'm off work tomorrow (though I'm going to have to be in for a fair bit of it to take delivery of a new TV - old one doesn't display the colour red any more...). I was hoping to get out for a nice ride but the weather is looking a bit ominous. I might just go and take OMS' KOM that he took from uv last week... :p

I didn't even notice I'd lost that! Weird, I didn't get an uh-oh email from Strava :/

It's only 10 seconds over 6 miles, I'll take it back when the new bike is built!

I saw the pic on Strava, ouchy! Is it just the base of the cleat worn away (like the plastic ears) or something more? I wouldn't expect a worn cleat to stop you unclipping (although not familiar with SL's)?

If anything my SPD's are the opposite - a worn cleat unclips easily and feels like it has too much float!

Personally I'd go for the DHB Roubaix but that's only because I know DHB's clothing, sizing and quality. I'm not familiar with the Altura ranges.

I do have some Craft tops (from Aldi) with a similar 'transformer' feature, I've not used it (as they're thick and for cooler weather). When things are cool enough for sleeveless the body would be too thick...! The double layer of fabric works well on the shoulders, I wear mine with a high viz windproof gilet and my base layers are generally unsleeved.

SPD's are not much better, paid £12 at my LBS as I needed a cleat bolt and they're only a couple of quid less on wiggle.

That's why he was destroyed - you gave him no recovery time, just chase chase chase! Good work! ;)

True - real pros are 21 seconds ahead :p ...despite having to stop at a roundabout...

I'm sure you'll take them both back soon enough. I just thought it'd be amusing to take it from OMS before you take it back :p

Why would you pay £12 for a pair of cleats if you only needed the bolts?

SPDs in general last a million miles longer than SPD-SLs. My first set of SPDs are still going strong 17,000 miles in.

edit: dumb typo on my part

Still on my first set of SPD cleats from 3 years ago, and I don't doubt they'll do triple the same amount of miles more before I even need to think about replacing them.

Saying that SPDs are not much better (in terms of wearing, cost, or vfm) is just nonsense.

And for info, you can get a full bag of cleat bolts for a pound on ebay!
