Can't remember to be honest, some lightweight one. High Teens, although not as nice today with rain due to come in.

Stats for the week

440.1 Miles
26 Hours 52 Minutes
29286ft Climbing

Great week and fantastically ridden mate, must feel awesome to beat all those PR's!? :D

The jersey looks like the yellow Castelli Entrata I have, very lightweight and has a 'mesh' look to the fabric with quite grippy/aero arms.

It's not quite spring yet but I couldn't resist trying out my new wheels today. The 90mm front handles very well in winds considering its depth. The disc looks, sounds and feels fast... until you start climbing! I know people say wheel weight doesn't matter, but I could notice the 1.2kg at the back.

Speed machine (on the flat)! Big bottles or small bike?! Looks very loud/busy with all the black/white decals, love it! :D

Dropped an email to wiggle about my bike and next steps to look to get it repaired and got a response back already. They want a picture of few areas and bike as a whole. Might send them one of it at top of sa calobra... :-P

Repairs? Thought it was just a spoke?

Doesn't really help, working long hours 430 miles away from home every week. Cash rich, time poor as the saying goes.

Take the bike with you! Working away means less home/family commitments...! ;)

I don't even feel like riding now, I swear a curse has been put on me

Don't stress mate, you're puncturing so the rest of us don't! Just rubbish luck, I've had 3 in 3 days before doing nothing different to usual (although I think 1 of them was a pinched tube). There is lots of debris around at the moment and (certainly around here) they're gritting the roads, which without much rain only seems to add to it!

I chickened out (again!) of the shop ride on saturday... Various reasons - it was damn cold and windy being the main one! I had a local loop in mind (to hit a segment I missed a goal on at the end of January) but some good rugby on saturday put a stop to any later riding plans... With many additional home chores (including sanding and painting a door) ruined any plans of a long ride on sunday... As time went on I was really kicking myself I didn't get out when I had the chance! 56 miles for the week lol

Sunday morning I had intended to do a fasted turbo session but after 15 mins I realised I felt strong so pushed it to some intervals (following a GCN 20 minute fat burning session). Still fasted and I could hit 350W for the first series but struggled a little in the second block. With some proper fueling I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem. Power levels felt good so fairly sure I'm overdue an FTP test...

Almost finished rebuilding my old Carrera ready for sale, just need some more cable outers. Should get £150-200 for it but have promised myself not to spend this as I've spent more than that on shoes the past few months...! My weekend was pretty much (an unplanned) couple of recovery days, but getting back on the bike today my legs didn't feel that recovered and my right thigh even feels a little tight. Riding after work with a mate so we'll see how it feels!

Feeling sorry for myself, ended up drinking this weekend (not a bad thing IMO :D) but never got on my bike so missed the climbing challenge badge & Gran Fondo but also means I'm not sure how prepared I am for next Sunday.

Not exactly a crazy sportive, but would like a nice pace to see how far I can push myself under the conditions... riding with a friend so will be fun.

Bring on the cotsworld.

While I've been having no luck with punctures, on the plus side my Canyon Ultimate CF SLX should be arriving on Tuesday :D
Is that a Tuesday in 2017? :p
Judging by Canyon's renowned order problems all he knows is that he's probably getting a bike (of some kind) from Canyon which may or may not be on a future Tuesday...! :D;)

a guy who got thrown out of a local cycling club because they blamed him for a couple of crashes due to some erratic cycling, and he nearly got in a fight with someone so out he went.
Couple of rides with him and no comments about his erratic cycling makes me think they wanted an excuse to show him the door! Or maybe they'd had enough of his 'field visits' on the club ride lol

I'll give them a bit of time to bed in but I don't think the Swisstops are going to fix my braking woes, or should that be woeful braking?
Was it fade you were seeing or just lack of power? I replaced the cheapy Tektro TK-R540's my Defy came with, with 105 (5800) calipers (£24 on Wiggle, fairly sure I paid £19.99 from somewhere). I changed the rear first as the caliper was ruined and wouldn't pivot the one side causing a 'grippy' pad and increased wear. I was so impressed I replaced the (working) front too! They even came with pads (which I've found fantastic!). 2600+ miles and still going strong...

The strava kings bike has died! Too much power.

That's quite a break! Caused by all the crud on the drivetrain! Or do you guys encourage him to run that dirty to reduce his power? ;)

So my cheapo Chinese seatpost doesn't fit my frame properly. It inserts ok down to about the 7 mark but is too anug after that. Has anyone had a similar issue? Seller is offering a refund but I'm reluctant to buy from him again, so recommendations appreciated.

Are you sure it is not a brand new tech, tapered seat post?;)

Sucks if you need the post to get the bike road-worthy at all.

After fixing up the disc brake on my commuter I took it out for the first time today and the rear mudguard broke :(

What are the best mudguards to buy? I have mounts on the frame and the old ones were made by Whyte specifically for the bike but were rubbish

Don't forget Dr Hutch's first rule of taking your bike in a hotel room

"don't ask"

A couple of years ago I did the cycle leg of the London Triathlon. I took my bike down and stayed in a hotel. I'd asked upfront and they said I could leave the bike in the luggage room but there was nothing I could lock it to, they'd accept no liability, etc etc. I checked in with the bike very clearly with me, didn't say a word about where I planned to put it, then squeezed it into the lift and down the corridors to my room. I ended up standing it up in the bath and locking it to the grab handle in the bath. I left the Do Not Disturb sign on the door when I was out without the bike so the cleaner wouldn't find it and potentially grass me up, though to be fair I'm sure they find worse than bikes in the bath in London hotel rooms.

Haha, that's probably what the seller will tell me. Bike is rideable as is but would prefer to swap it out for a better fitting post before too long, I'm worried it will slip and get stuck forever!

I've also managed to crack the shell of my Specialized Toupe which is somewhat annoying as it's the carbon rail one and I got it on a super cheap deal.

Repairs? Thought it was just a spoke?

Unevenly worn drop out meaning the wheel doesn't sit straight unless you chuck something in to even it up. Guy bodged something together to get me going.

Hotel Stuff

I've stayed in a number of places and just taken my bike in, as long as they're clean what objections can they have. It's just like any other luggage.

Some bikes won't work with the the standard drop calipers when designed for the long drops. Maybe that is what makes the defy a ******* for mudguards?

That's par for the course up here! I got in yesterday covered in road salt and it was a nice dry day.

He's getting his summer bike out early, will build it up with 6800 ultegra and racing quattros. He's got a hilly TT next week and a trip to the bealach na ba soon, will keep an eye on the KOM for that.

Just lack of power in general. These are Tektro R317's which I assume are specified based purely on cost!

Unfortunately I think I'm limited to 57mm drop options.

My Tektro brakes on my CAAD12 are rubbish - am going to replace with 105s as soon as I can find a window to get my toolset out.

Random questions - do energy gels really go out of date?! Got a pile that I've just realised are dated Feb 16 but surely they're pretty well sealed?!

Anything like that is fine. couldn't even list the sealed/packaged long sort of life things I have eaten in the past that are 1/2 years after the "best before" date.... Energy gels, hell if they said Feb14 on them I'd still be putting them in my pockets and downing them on the bike without even worrying.

If you have clearance and mount points then the SKS Chromos are the best bang for buck, with reduced/low clearance or lack of mount points then I've had luck with SKS Raceblade Long V1 and V2's. SKS ftw!

Ah, I had wrongly thought the spoke was the issue and the bodge was just to combat the spoke problem! Think Wiggle did Ridley framesets previously (but not any longer) so expect it'll have to be returned to Ridley for the warranty, possibly through another dealer/partner?

Maybe that is what makes the defy a ******* for mudguards?
That and the lack of bridge clearance, my front has more than the rear but we're talking 3-5mm max, depending on tyre choice. Continentals are 'better' than Mitchelin, as they're wider rather than deeper. Still requires to squeeze them through the pads with the brake releases open & new pads can be painful!:rolleyes:

You'll notice the difference with the 105's. Certainly the 5800's!

They probably don't go 'bad' but the fact they're a bit of a concoction of concentrated natural ingredients, some of it fruit, I'd be worried about them tasting sour (not a problem) or worse giving you the trots (bigger problem!)... Manufacturers will be required to put a date on them as they're an 'edible' regardless of the real date. I imagine they may reduce in effectiveness, as having natural sugars in them they will degrade over time?

"Best before" is totally fine.

If it says "use by" I'd be more inclined to not eat it. But all "best before" means is they can't guarantee quality after that.

"Use By" tends to be on fresh stuff though not packet gels/bars and stuff like that.

I have some mushrooms in the fridge meant to be "used by" Friday last week, I am eating them tonight. I am out of control. Living life to the extreme.
