Road Cycling

Lovely ride out today in the sun. Planned to meet up with my Mum at a good pub for bit of cake, all going well for time until I got a puncture! Had to up the pace a bit but still arrived bang on time. Good bit of cake, although the first bit had mould on it, so got twice as much once I took it back. Although couldn't eat it all and had to bring it home with me, be perfect later!

Headwind on the way back was a killer!

I would ignore it, but for the fact it's the same pain after every longer ride. It's not a huge deal, as even metrics aren't that frequent for me, but if I can fix it I'd like to.

@BennyC - looking at pics of pronation that might fit. That would be turning my right foot anti-clockwise along the plane of my foot, which would fit with scrunching up the outer side of my knee.

This is exactly what I have had for about 12 months on longer rides, care to share the sites you have been looking at ?

Tired today... Couldn't be arsed with single speed so took my geared winter bike, especially as it's clothes changeover day so I've got panniers full of laundry.

I don't think I'll be doing much riding this weekend... I might sneak in a 20, just so I can hit 200 miles for the week.

Collected my new bike. Everything seems ok, seems to have been set up correctly - pleasantly surprised!

I can't get on with the standard (Boardman) road saddle though - way too hard.

Saddle recommendations - something with a decent bit of padding. £30-£35 ish?

Also - road shoes (SPDSL) - recommendations for £40 - £50 ish?

Thanks :)

The Madison Flux is a mountain bike saddle which is basically identical to the spoon but with more padding. That might be worth a look.

Legs are feeling better today. It's amazing what difference a rest day can make. Going to get 20 or so in today, then the dreaded "going for a run" in the evening. Tomorrow I'll be hitting some local hills then on Sunday it'll be a flat metric.

Is this using old fashioned proper lightbulbs or the slow dim energy saving ones? :D
I hope you're not calling Pete old fashioned or slow and dim!:p
I keep wondering when the annual discussions on which lights are best will start cropping up...
Exposure. Cateye. Leyzne. Sorted!
Light faded quickly last night and took the temperature with it :(

Wasn't too bad here light level wise (still had mine with me!), although quite a cool wind for most of my loop I did. Felt really sunny when leaving work (5.15) but once riding realised how cool things were, got home and arm+knee warmered up headed out (6ish) for a loop with a long segment on it I've been meaning to ride for a while. A fairly flat loop without any real notable climbs so was good to push along for some good progress, strength mostly sapped by the fairly constant headwind (which seemed to always be there)! I'd set a goal previously of 1 hour 10 mins, it's going to be hard without a wheel to follow or some tailwinds!

The latter half of the loop is along back lanes which would normally have tractor/combine holdups but with the rain overnight I knew they wouldn't be combining (getting a bit late in the season too, which normally means potato season is starting). It's a good loop which I will probably use during the winter for some solid mileage.

Although with todays commute I am going to be ~10 miles short of my 100 mile weekly goal... Weather tomorrow is horrific and I've got friends staying saturday night through sunday so was going to take 2 rest days (I'm long overdue some solid rest). Hmm! :o

EDIT: Couple of guys I know rode out to the ToB, did the last CAT climb (Speech House), rode back and then jumped onto one of the thursday night socials, thankfully didn't look like a fast one!

Been using my HRM from my 500 bundle I bought 2-3 years ago and it's more frequently throwing a wobbly, mis-reading and dropping out.

Contact points are clean, it's seated well, has ample moisture to read effectively and pairs fine. Any pr0 tips before I considering tossing it in the bin and getting the Wahoo TickR to complement my Elemnt?

Can't see it would be battery or position related as it wouldn't pair otherwise and is in exactly the same position. And I'm no hairier that usual :p

Can recommend these. Had a pair for over 3 years & still in excellent condition.

Only thing I would say is block up the vent at the front of the shoe, water comes flooding in when it's wet !
I bunged a bit of blu-tack in...job done! :D

My Garmin HRM was exactly the same, I swopped batteries, fiddled about for weeks & finally gave up & binned it.
Bought the Wahoo & it's been perfect for the best part of a year.

I suppose I can't complain! Did chuckle to myself at some of the readings showing on my segments from yesterdays ride! :p

Ordered the TickR, £35 from Wiggle with Platinum discount and then £4 for next day because impatient S.O.B :D

Convenient that it'll pair via Bluetooth as I can use it with my turbo too without needing to plug in the ANT+ & 30pin to Lightening adapter
