Road Cycling

I can't tell a lot from it i'm afraid. The ones on the same sides seem to be fairly even though. Which is good. Maybe they could be a bit higher. I don't think they're massively low

Dropped them in to the LBS yesterday evening and they checked the tension whilst I was there. The RDS was right in the middle of range and the guideline given for the RNDS is about 1/3rd of that for the DS. Running as close to perfectly true as possible.

They're going to increase the tension today towards the upper end of the range and I'll see how that goes. The rub had improved somewhat but was still apparent even when in the saddle with weight off centre. At 78kg with power output not out of the ordinary it seems a bit amiss considering since May they've been fine though have taken a fair few knocks lately :o

My right knee is hurting... It often does after a long ride like mine and FT's ride on Tuesday. It's something like a tendon on the outer side of my knee. I'm not sure whether it's due to saddle height or cleat position. I'll have to have a play with it. It was this sort of pain that originally drive me to get a bike fit, though at that time I was getting this pain after just a few miles on the bike, rather than after 60 or 70. Maybe it's just delicate now and destined to always hurt... I hope I can figure a way to adjust my fit to stop it.

BennyC's advice is sound but also...did you ever sort out your droopy saddle? :p

Cross bikes are fine until it comes to descending on anything but lovely smooth gravel I find. Once you hit that stuff then they lose out as you don't have the control and they're more suspectible to being knocked off line.

You'll be surprised by how much punishment the rest of your body will feel after the first few rides. Friends of mine who move from road to mtb always comment on how much it hurts at first.

Interesting, cheers. I think I need to get on and sort it out. uv's suggestion as an alternative to the 300 mile ride next year is coast2coast CX. Could be fun :)

@BennyC - Cheers, I'll look at that lot. Shoes could be a factor as they're a bit big, to the point that my right big toe was sore after Tuesday's ride. I'm going to get some new road shoes in the next 6 months or so, cash permitting!

@FT - I've not fixed the saddle yet, that's a job for the weekend. I'm commuting on a different bike so it's no big deal for now.

My cleat nearly fell off on the way in. Thought I had major float, no, lost a bolt in one and the others were loose and the thing was flapping about.
Way too much power going through them...

if correct NDS tension is 1/3 of DS then they're always going to be challenging to build right. The lowest i've worked with had NDS at 44% and that requires care.

Mountain bike stuff gets 55-60%. It's almost easy with those

any of you see "well known" cyclists in the community? I keep seeing the popular youtuber, cyclegaz around central london haha, hunting for bad drivers.

Brownie points if anyone can help me source a replacement M6 bolt for my seatpost. N00b at the Trek store managed to round it :o
I've probably got one spare in my bike box mate, I do remember getting a new seatclamp for my Defy after I broke a bolt (they come with 2, so providing it's the right size I'll have one). Can check later for you!
Car drivers suck. I wish their fathers had been in the same hurry to pull out.
Sounds like you need a power meter for your torque wrench.
You're on fire today mate, had a fit of giggles at the first one! :D

Solo max effort commute in this morning as the other half is taking the car today. Some rain first thing but roads clear so utterly gunned it (trying to see if I could catch her in the car lol). Won't be able to get my commute much faster than that without a tailwind and more power. Although I did use the easiest part of the cycle path due to a lorry behind me so a couple of slowdowns to get on & off (it literally starts and stops that quickly) - I don't usually at lunchtime when solo (less traffic). 21.4mph avg basically. Ho-hum.

That sounds familiar, around the 1/3rd mark.

I've probably got one s... Can check later for you!

Ta, trust me a picture and I'll let you know if it looks suitable :)

Edit: My Rapha returns have been confirmed. 2 weeks-ish.

Over time, I've learnt not to read too much into niggling little aches and pains. Often they are down to over-use/over-training and usually a few days to a week off cure them. They don't ever seem to return either so just be absolutely certain that a little rest may be the cure rather than leaping straight into bike adjustments. At the end of the day, its a physical activity, slight little injuries will happen.

In my opinion...

Don't really see many around here, I'm one of the few who actually record rides/commuting so there's no real local online 'community' outside of club/shop pages on facebook. Any 'well known' cyclists are just the guys from various clubs. The riders/clubs around here all generally intermingle anyway so recognise 50%+ of riders anyway by bikes/faces/places rather than kit/clothing! Don't get many/any fast randoms!

I hope you're still fast enough to drop him?! :p
blah blah blah ride slower & rest more
Never! ;)
Although I'm edging more and more towards a couple of easy days commuting so I can hammer other rides more. Just finding it hard to hold back while the weather is generally 'good'! :D :o

I don't cycle enough to justify getting a decent bicycle GPS, but I wanted the option to use navigation. I have been looking for options to use an old phone of mine, but I didn't like any of the off the shelf products (or the good products were for iphone/out of budget.

Found a video last week of someone who had DIY'd a mount and I liked it, so below is the result.

Do you have any info on how they made the phone mount ?

( I am also looking to clear space around the top of the stem so I can more easily adopt a streamlined time-trial posture with drops - currently occupied with an old cycle computer - so would maybe like something further forward or lower )

I would ignore it, but for the fact it's the same pain after every longer ride. It's not a huge deal, as even metrics aren't that frequent for me, but if I can fix it I'd like to.

@BennyC - looking at pics of pronation that might fit. That would be turning my right foot anti-clockwise along the plane of my foot, which would fit with scrunching up the outer side of my knee.
