Road Cycling

I've just cycled 11 miles in it. I'm wet through. Fortunately I had spare overshoes and a raincoat at work, even if it was a maximum cheapo boil in the bag raincoat.

@physichull - yup, saw the signs about free breakfast. Bargain.

FYI, free breakfast at the Centre on presentation of your helmet!

Another 2 weeks of prime riding time lost to overseas work. I really should stop complaining and do something about it! Got the week off when I get home so it is bound to hammer it down all week breaking only while I'm stuck in the hospital getting my shoulder X-Ray :p

I've got the itch to buy something cycling related when I get back. Currently I want a new bike either a cheap winter hack or nicer bike and relegate my current one... or a new bike computer that has Ant+ or a Garmin Fenix 3. I can of course financially justify none of the above.

That One Sportive looks pretty joocey. Would be happy to ride the route with you next year at some point, probably July or August so the weather is fair, light lasts and we're not still carrying around Christmas dinner & unconditioned ;). Won't be able to fit it in this year I'm afraid. Lots of punchy climbs, most of which I've done, safe to say you'll have an empty tank by the end ;)

Looks like we ride around the same sort of speed (1 2 3) so could get something in the few weeks? Got a club run this weekend and plans the next but free the first two weekends in October. Though off to Majorca the 3rd weekend so need to keep some reserves :p Agree to stay off the small lanes at the surfaces get awful and stay quite damp.

Setting off from Tring or Thame is a good shout though you're in central London. I'm on the Chiltern Line in Aylesbury so could always save the legs and get the train out or part of the way? Let me know where you want to start & the distance and I'll plot something up with a mixture of climbs

2nd weekend Saturday (7th) works for me! I'd be tempted to cycle out depending on how far start point would be or I could drive out.. Trains from Westish London to your direction are less than direct! I probably wouldn't want more than 100 miles max for an overall ride and I could deal with 30 miles out and back.

so this addison lee driver nearly wiped me off today.. I caught up to him at the lights and I was like "that was a bit too close don't you think?" he was like "yeah but did I hit you?" I was like "that's not the point, come sit here in my place and let me do that to you and see how you feel" he was like "okay I will" and speed off.. nob end

Got to love Addison Lee. I actually came across one all the way down at the coast on Christmas Day.. cut me up on a roundabout entry - no other cars around for miles.

Actually managed to ride over the 30% part which has defeated me every time before, pulled over to stop and wait for my mate (who had to walk it) and realised my GARMIN HAD CRASHED. FFS! Restarted it from the pullover and steady rode all the way up with Richie.
Looks like you're going to have to do it again then :p

Cycle to work day promo.
I think our office did this 2 years ago... free breakfast if you cycled to work on cycle to work day. I guess they didn't get much take up (probably because it was poorly communicated!). Would be nice if they did it everyday but then we don't have a car parking issue (apart from other local businesses stealing spots in our massive car park) so I don't think there would be much incentive for them.

Got soaked here too!... in sweat :p

Bike show end of next week. Anyone going?

planning on trying on some kit. I need some new winter clothing.

Yep, me & Maxeh will be having a traipse round and I'll be drumming N+1 in to him :p

Anyone recommend some quiet ish rollers for when its bucketing down or sub zero outside?

Picked up these for £80 from Hallfords earlier in the year, bargain for £80. Haven't used any other but they are smooth, quiet and surprisingly well built & solid.

You mean the 8th? :p Cool, let's see what the weather is doing closer to the time? E-mail in trust :)

Been out for what was a mostly wonderful day cycling. Started in Stalybridge, then onto Glossop, Derwent Valley, Hope, Edale and then back to Glossop, then the heavens opened and got drenched. Cycled with a mate past my house towards Oldham and then back home to Stalybridge myself. Awesome ride and pleased with the distance and climbing again.

58 miles today and just over 5000ft of climbing.

I live about 7 miles away from Snakes Pass in Glossop so it's rude not to go climbing. Holme Moss isnt far from there either. Its hard work but well worth it, the views are stunning.

Talking of this I grabbed one of the softshell baselayers from Rapha in the sale, not sure how they perform relative to a Gabba but for £35 I was willing to try. Turned up today and the fit is snug to say the least, but feels like a good bit of kit. Should be ideal for racing cross when the weather is less than savoury.
Surely you'd not want something as thick as a softshell when riding cross?! You'd need something more breathable and then the thick layer on as a gilet so you could control it? Then again you soft southerners do feel the cold... ;)
Looks like you're going to have to do it again then :p
Yep...! Half thinking about it tonight but my cycling pass only covers me till 6:30pm after being late on Monday... Will need to leave work bang on 5 to get even close! :o

I'm not proper cycling by any stretch, but I did 80 miles the other day with 4500ft of climbing.. I feel your pain! :o
You new guys 'not proper cycling' are showing some of us up! :o

Good riding guys!
Well, it worked. I showed my helmet to the ladies in the cafe at work and they gave me a sausage sandwich.
*sniggers*
Wait, that wasn't an euphemism?! :p

We totally need to sort a ride out sometime. I'm not far from you at all.

Definitely, I'm off every Tuesday and always up for a ride of you are off yourself. Other than that it's usually Sunday I'm off at the weekend but need to get back on my long runs at the moment. That said noticed you've been running yourself so can show you a few off-road routes too if that interest you.
