Road Cycling

Best thing to do in A&E is to say what your problem is then add in "plus I seem to be having palpitations". You usually get called before your backside has found a seat. :)

Short post about my 9 days supported LeJog - Threshold Ride Across Britain<snip>
Awesome stuff, how big were the groups and did you get to meet many of the others? A local guy I've ridden with a couple of times called Chris Griffiths did it too!

Incredible effort, well done! Enjoyed your brief writeup, should've written a blog about it! :D

How's the recovery going?

Guy at work did LEJOG too. Looks like the weather was pretty great and he had barely cycled before it... maybe about 10 minor rides after getting a road bike earlier in the year.

It would be nice to give it a go at some point but the entry fee is pretty high really. I'm tempted by something like London to Paris in 24 hours.

I might do that next year. Can't be any more hideous than the Newcastle > London ride was...

In total about 650 riders took part in the event. The ability range was massive ,on day 4 we had a fairly easy 108 miles. Our group got back about 1:45pm and that included some good stops a puncture and some photos. Some of the guys didn't finish until 7:30pm these same guys started half an hour before us..
In regards to group sizes due to the above varied ability it was best to keep to groups of 8 or less but typically we cycled with groups of 5 on day 4 we were at one point in a group of around 15 strong riders but it did feel on a knifes edge as abilities varied.
Recovery wise my diet is still a bit messed up from eating so much sugar over 9 days. Sleeping patterns still out and my Achilles still has a lump on it which is causing me to walk with a minor limp but all being well I hope to get a couple of days cycling up Loch Tay to find out if I have gained any form.
Stuck in the office missing being out on my bike.

There were a fair few non cyclists and allot of those did make it but boy did they suffer. Looking at strave some had 13 Hours+ of moving time compared to my 5:40 that's allot of time in the saddle over 9 days.

I'm gonna do lejog, but I'll not pay for it. I'll do it solo if I have to, or find people to ride with. If I get round to it reasonably soon my parents have said they'll drive a SaGwagon for me.

Same here. It is something I want to do at some point. But yes, it will be a DIY jobby.

Just got to find people to do it with, I wouldn't do it alone. Maybe my father, I don't know.

I did used to go cycling with a group of mates. But they have all turned crap. Not cycled with one since March, and not cycled with another since Majorca last year which was July. The third was never as committed but has managed to get out himself a few times alone. I hardly see them anyone either. They just stopped getting back to me when I asked "who is cycling this weekend?" so, I've gone off on a tangent here...

Oh and yes, I am bitter.

+1 I'd love to do it but there's something especially romantic about the idea of doing it solo and unsupported. Reckon it'd be a great experience riding up into the Highlands on your tod, just need to be prepared in case of emergency etc.

I was considering doing parts of it over several seasons, maybe even a 'UK Tour', just head back to where you last 'finished' and carry on riding... Thought to plan it all in advance and could even used it as a way to ride all the popular climbs/Top 100 as part of it. ;)

OcUK CC UK Tour?! :D

Then again OMS talking about it being romantic has just turned me off the idea. Maybe (b)romance is an option if we get grudas along.

Ouch, the accumulated fatigue is one of the things which I find quite interesting - especially people who've not done sequential heavy days before to build up any kind of stamina for something like that. The saddle sores must've been incredible!:p:o

I'd be surprised if you've not built some good form, some rest/easy rides are probably a good way to check!

I see what you mean. I personally just seem to struggle going solo for longer distances. I've done 50mi before alone, and that's the most ive done alone. I got up that morning and was just "in the mood".

But in recent months, especially this year I've only been getting out for 20, 30, 35 miles solo. I don't know what it is, but I struggle to motivate myself to go further when I'm alone.

Almost finished, just waiting on a di2 junction box and some more 3t aerobar bolts then it'll be good for a ride.

Edit, was supposed to be in aero gains, but works here :o

Tom,

How do the junction boxes work here, presume you've got a 5 port down near the BB, how do the front cables all work, just reading through my felt manual and they only show the 3 port JC41 box on the front, but surely there are 4 cables, plus the one to go to the rear, or do the TT shifters plug into each other?

A romantic solo, you say? I've had a few of those.

Wait, what?

Seriously though... If I thought I could get enough gear in my panniers and still be able to heft the bike around I'd do it. Would just need stupidly low gearing for when you're climbing hills all laden down!

My LeJog came about through my employer who kindly paid the fee and paid me for doing it we had to raise cash abd make a personal cash donation. That was an offer i could not turn down!
I can see where the entrance fee goes, massive amount of logistics but for £2k per corporate entry i would rather spend the money and go to spain or France for 9 days cycling.

Well, it's official, I've got a bruise on my ass from where my saddle bashed into me in the course of this morning's happenings. I never bruise, and then the one time I do, it's somewhere I can't show it off. Lame.

Should've taken a Diverge! Part where you stopped is 30%+, like my local challenge 'wall' that I eventually conquered! Hurts doesn't it! Steepest climb in Mallorca? ;)
I could have maybe handled the incline on its own for a bit longer but was having to weave away from where I needed to go, and not a good place to be tipping off the side of the road!! Then I found out just how far from the summit I was :eek: & again! Did find a steeper section of road but only very short, somewhere around the top of Selvia I think - went down it on way through to the Col de sa Batalla on the Sa Colobra route but went down it and was very short. Planned to take that route (in reverse) back on todays ride but took more direct route instead ;)

Oh lovely! Cycled past that many times and thought, 'I wonder what that is'. Never went up though. I bet the views were superb.
Polenca looked very small from up there and you could see for miles around, just the views to the south were blocked by trees and stuff, I had little look around but didn't go right round the place to see if you could see better.

One last 'challenging' ride to finish off my holiday here - apologies for the lack of imagination with the route, I'd planned to come back via Lluc after Puig Major climb and descent the Col de sa Batalla but seeing the miles I'd racked up by time I left café at Port Soller and running low on drink additives etc I just retraced my steps. Not like it's not fun doing the Feminia descent again :p

One of toughest days riding I've done, took me 17 minutes at 30mph to descend Puig Major and EDIT 1hr 5 mins (1hr 20 included up and down tunnel plus stopping for photos etc) to get back up. Sign said 14.1Km climb which my rough sums made 8.6 miles and I was counting every single tenth

Then on some descending down to reservoirs after the Puig summit a never ending succession of coaches coming up the bends led to an ever decreasing gap between me and the guard rail - goes with the territory here I guess.

Damn cold on this mornings commute, wore my roubaix LS jersey for the first time this autumn but it was cold enough I also needed a windstopper gilet too! Mobiles reported 4 &5 degrees, Garmin reported 5.8. Windchill made it feel loads colder, almost frost like! Other half didn't crash into me today so that's one plus...

NFTO Pro team are doing an 'end of season' sale of lots of the team kit, yesterday it opened to club guys so I shot over after work/weekly shop to take a look. Had really wanted a Kask Infinity/Mojito but the only helmets they had (Bambino & Infinity) were Mediums and I'm a Large :(

Lots of kit, bits of clothing but nothing else I needed. Bought a 'neck/head thingy' so it wasn't a wasted trip.

VERY tempted over a Stages though... They were selling the 'new ones' for £500 (guy said retail was £800?), then they were selling off the used ones for £300. I know that's an incredible price, but the team Stages are DA crankarm so I'd need to switchout my cranks for DA. Not to mention they've been well used so questionable warranty on them...

Team TT bikes (without wheels) were on a crazy sale, £3000 for a frame with full DA Di2, not even sure what they were, Felt's but not as 'beefy' as the IA but looked more aero than the B series...

Most of the 'normal' wheelsets (and any clinchers) had sold earlier in the day (all Enve), they only had really deep rims with tubs left. Maybe next year I'll save some of my pocket money and splash out a little more ;)

A romantic solo
I've got a bruise on my ass

You've had an incredible week to be fair mate, pretty sure your riding would put most of us to shame, some strong times on the popular segments too!
