Road Cycling

Haha that fear goes eventually. I'm around 105kg and ridden it on some ropey mtb/gravel without it breaking on me.

I find it comfy, and whilst i don't have a huge experience i'd say it's decenet enough.

I have this one (though I got it on AE) it replaced a Stelle Italia Boost Superflow and I find it more comfortable. Not a huge frame of reference but I certainly noticed it being better for a 2 hour turbo session.

I want to buy this one next. Undecided if I'll go 3D printed or the EVA finish

I've been over some canal paths, hit unexpected potholes and general UK road bumps and not as much as a creak.

Sounds glaringly obvious but the stiffness of a carbon saddle took me by surprise.

New LHS crank arm turned up off facebook marketplace today. Was half expecting to receive a brick but £20 for a ultegra 8100 crank arm can't be argued with. Missing a bolt for some reason but I will just take one off the old one before I send it off to 4iiii for repair.

Can anyone recommend some good form fitting, light weight fingerless gloves for summer riding? I figure I should probably wear gloves while I'm cycling but the leather ones I have aren't the right shape for my hands and leather doesn't really "give" much.

I would be forever petrified that the thing would crack/snap over every bump. How's the general comfort over a 'standard' saddle?
buy from a known brand, ryet, cyclami, rockbros etc and you'll be fine. Things without a brand or pure knockoffs with blurred out logos is where the problems come from. Otherwise, I've had no dangerous failures of any of my aliexpress etc components.

I think this is what tricks me. I don't think it's uncommon that I wake with a little something, but after a coffee and I've woken up, it's gone.

Same here, I assume pretty much everyone has this? I've seen others with this, even as it warms up. Maybe it's just the fresh air hitting the nasal passages?
Yeah I've thought the same - cold air has always triggered me and the 'riding all weathers' commute mentality I've just got on with it. I've not had the 'off' days you've had and certainly now this has been going on long enough it's 'normal'

I do tend to wear a 'face buff' (even now - basically any temps I've got arms/knees covered I'll wear one). Without one, I find I get a chapped nose in the colder (still do sometimes) but also cold sores. I get them a little when I've got into a big of a fatigue hole and get a bit run down, but also similar after a big days on the bike. If I don't wear one I'll get them far more regularly even in 10-15 degrees from just commuting. Bit of a running joke in my club how overdressed I am... But with my short commute it's a habit - I don't ride long enough to warm up, while also used to stripping bits of clothing as I do and the temperatures go up. So I tend to be prepared and dressed for the morning temps rather than suffering through them...! Always tell myself I've got pockets for a reason!

Had a NHS 'Health Check' at work and everything 'very good' for me, mostly aimed at cholesterol and heart disease rather than other ailments... I don't really see doctors - I have no need to! Generally very healthy.

For interest sake, my NHS Health Check numbers (we all love numbers!) if anyone wants to compare:
Blood Pressure 132/75 - Pulse 42 (commented it was 'a bit low' and a conversation then about my resting 35-36 and me knowing my max around 190ish being 'pretty good' for a 44 year old).
BMI - 25.4 - borderline overweight for my height (172cm & 75kg) but also commented as my BF 'looking low' that BMI was totally inaccurate to measure 'anyone active'.
Cholesterol - 4.0 HdL 1.72 Ratio 2-3 New HdL 2.28
Gives me a Cardiovascular risk of 1.7% (when anything below 2.2% was 'expected/normal' for me)

That's pretty possible though right? A couple massive hills that put you over the edge (like those 20% climbs!) and then a very relaxed ride would result in a really low average power but relative exertion from overdoing it on the hills.

Although i do agree in general it's a pretty pointless feature at the moment.
Oh yes... But that's how I ride most of the time outdoors anyway. I just feel it's not really 'intelligence' if it's pointing out the obvious & normal style of riding is it?! As mentioned most of us could easily put some 'IFS' statements together in Excel and come up with it.

Think that's why I find it so funny/entertaining... I felt good on saturday and finished the ride feeling like I could do another hour or two (apart from some saddle soreness from rough roads)... Didn't feel I went that hard on the climbs really, only that earlier one at max effort which caught me out. All the data is saying I defo worked harder - my Whoop also said I was at 20.2 strain for the day, I'd normally expect 18-19 for a usual saturday as it didn't feel a massive effort (actually no long/big climbs there). But maybe that just says good things about my form and fitness at the moment too?! :D

I know some have subs too. But hardware isn't as expensive as garmins.
Whoop prime example. No cost for the hardware and 'free' upgrades. Not that they're very regular... Many of them for sale on 'bay for £20-30-40. I bought one for £25 for the strap and extra charger (new straps 20-30 and chargers are 30-40).

The hardware is obviously useless without the service and paid up sub, I've not even heard of anyone hacking them to use as a base HR/fitness band.

Yes, they may not be the best around but I got the pair in the sale and I'm happy with the price. They're for a cheap bike build before I really go to town at some point in the future.

Our businesses are almost into full profit at which point its going to be brand new bike time baby.
Awesome to hear! Well done but surely you can wangle a cycle2work to help out?! ;)

Oh they sound like good wheels if you got a good deal on them. Just if you where looking at spending £1000 on some new wheels there are other options around... Still think for that new price for that 1300g weight (if it's accurate!) and pretty deep profile they sound great value and hard to beat. Even with the 'compromise' of it being fairly narrow.

Anyone have any success with 3D printed saddles? (and Ideally not the cheap Aliexpress ones).

I'm not sold on the Ryet one I got from Grudas. But that's more the shape of it as its nose is quite a bit wider than my usual Power in 155 width. But I still have it fitted on my Zwift setup and probably won't change it for the time being...

But the build quality and 'feel' of it is superb. That's really impressive for the money (£30-40?) - comparable to a £80-150 or more saddle)! Would happily try other Ryets if I knew the size/shape I wanted/needed. The Goldilocks saddle mission continues.

I got some from Decathlon which have been pretty good. Guess my winter is about the same as your summer :p

No C2W scheme yet; we're a startup. Its coming though, so yeah it's in the plans.

I got the wheels for 669£. Decent bargain at that price.

Ok managed to sort out removing some links and sizing up my chain today by someone in work

Going to have a go at fitting my new chain later ....before I delve anymore in to indexing

New chain is on. Spent about 2 hours trying to index it.. sort of there but very very erratic over some cogs in the middle of the cassette. I have tried small barrel adjuatments in both directions .

Problem is if I adjust it anymore the higher and lower cogs then start going out of whack...seems to be in the middle I have issues

If the cassette isn't new, I'd expect the middle sprockets to wear the most, if ridden on fairly flat roads.

Possibly. Although it was fine before I started adusting . My mate in work is going to have a peek tomorrow to advise on where I'm going wrong

Summer gloves!

Tis the season. None of the cyclists I see on my travels seem to have got the memo though. I was out in short sleeved jersey and regular bibs. Most of the people going past were in full length bibs, long sleeves, jacket, buff etc. Its 14 degrees people! Summer is here!

Wimps. Shorts and short finger gloves this morning. Was in agony for the first 20 mins or so but was lovely when the sun eventually came up.

First chop of the year last night for us. Crazy group sizes, we had about 20 people in each! Need to sort that for next week, but good fun being in the pain cage again.

psh don't even own any full length bibs :) that's how hard I am.

but yeah, short sleeves and no gloves is fine now. Unless you need extra padding for your moisturized hands?
