Road Cycling

You may remember 3 weeks back I rode 80 miles and I'm convinced it weakened my body and I got ill for a week. Fever, nausea, headaches. Well, last weekend I went to Mallroca, rode 290 miles over mountains in 4 days and all seemed fine. Yesterday I woke with a slightly stuffy nose, but felt okay, so rode 64 miles... and I've come down ill again. (Sneexy, runny nose etc). I generally don't get ill, so I'm wondering what's going on. Has anyone experienced this sort of thing before? I'm a little concerned with the 312 in 4 weeks, this isn't the run in I was hoping for!
Read something similar with some pros and was due to a deviated septum, but will be one for your doc.

toe covers officially came off today. still got the softshell for the way in at 7, but arms are out for the ride back. perfect weather for not arriving and immediately sweating buckets all over the place.

Ok I think I have the limit screws set correctly. And I think I have now indexed just about!!

I'm not touching any more adjusters or screws. Still not 100% get the odd click here and there. But if I do any more adjusting I know I'll mess it up for the 50th time

No C2W scheme yet; we're a startup. Its coming though, so yeah it's in the plans.

I got the wheels for 669£. Decent bargain at that price.
Sweet, we've been running for 95 years and I'm still trying to get one in place! ;)

New LHS crank arm turned up off facebook marketplace today. Was half expecting to receive a brick but £20 for a ultegra 8100 crank arm can't be argued with. Missing a bolt for some reason but I will just take one off the old one before I send it off to 4iiii for repair.
Awesome to hear you got this sorted - good price for one delivered. I've seen them sell for £25-30 and maybe should sell some of the 'inventory' I have!

Can anyone recommend some good form fitting, light weight fingerless gloves for summer riding? I figure I should probably wear gloves while I'm cycling but the leather ones I have aren't the right shape for my hands and leather doesn't really "give" much.
I recently picked up some Sportful Matchy in a sale, really pleased with them so that is a good price for a quality glove - various colours but check the prices. I've generally worn cheaper mitts but love their gloves for full fingered...

Endura Humvee I've used a few seasons as a cheaper option (£15-20) are good but they don't last that long. The pads/glove contact wear really quickly and the velcro can peel off. I've got various others, but wouldn't feel they're worth paying over £20 for - even the Rapha ones are overpriced for what they are - but I do like a bit of padding and a glove for various conditions and they don't have much. Quality very similar to the Sportful above. Some Giro ones are nice for the money, but my last set of 'Bravo' got wrecked a few times in the wash with the velcro grabbing the meshy outside part.

Generally my 'good' gloves tend to wear out quicker than the cheaper ones I've got, some of my longest serving and most well used are ones from DHB and PX own brands.

Possibly. Although it was fine before I started adusting . My mate in work is going to have a peek tomorrow to advise on where I'm going wrong
A worn chain on a worn cassette - they're moulded and have worn together so match well. A new chain on a worn cassette has to 'wear in' to then stand a chance of being silent and trouble free... But if your cassette is worn too far it means the chain will wear out faster - it stretching and wearing to match the cassette.

The alloy used on a cassette is harder than a chain links/pivots, so the chain will always wear faster... Same with chainrings, they're even stronger/harder but as you change the front less, they tend to wear quickly when the rest of the drivechain also is.

Tis the season. None of the cyclists I see on my travels seem to have got the memo though. I was out in short sleeved jersey and regular bibs. Most of the people going past were in full length bibs, long sleeves, jacket, buff etc. Its 14 degrees people! Summer is here!
Nope! Not quite! https://www.strava.com/activities/14055709969/analysis Although this morning with thermal shorts & tights maybe didn't need the tights!

Klimatt app says 5 'feels like' 9. Strava says 4 with feels like 0. I put thermal tights on, actual was 4-5. Preparing for the afternoon early commute now and it's 17 feels like 15... So glad I have shorts with me - have ridden with bare knees twice this week and even arm warmers+jersey for a couple (& later). But by Friday that is up to over 20 degrees! That is the time for fingerless gloves! ;)

Yes, I am only just into arm warmers...!

First chop of the year last night for us. Crazy group sizes, we had about 20 people in each! Need to sort that for next week, but good fun being in the pain cage again.
Yeah one of the guys here has restarted the Tuesday night Chaingangs, had 20 riders out. They stopped during Covid times so good to see them coming back, but think long gone are the days of 5-6 gangs with 10-15 riders each. Need to get myself back out - fairly used to getting my head kicked in on a tuesday night on Zwift now - so just continue that outdoors! Last time I tried one I got dropped after 6 miles doing 23-24mph avg

Local Pro Will Truelove did a 120km 4.5 hour 'warmup' (!) at 250W, then a 40km at 40kph 270W avg chaingang! Machine! But jut shows what it takes...

Sometimes that's the best it'll get until things wear & bed in a little... So when it gets a bit more noisy again, use the experience you've gained and tweak it! You'll get better and better at doing it don't worry! But some of it is so minor... Often just have to blame some worn components and keep things going as best as you can until you're ready to replace chain & cassette at the same time, sometimes even chainrings & pulley wheels. You know then with it all new you should be able to get it nearly perfect with no excuses! ;)

my view is that as soon as it gets noisy, it's n+1 time. Buy a new bike.

Saw some GCN guys out on a ride yesterday. My guess is they were leaving the office but even still they were annoyingly fast. So I tried to hang on their wheel for as long as possible to have a bit of a workout. Luckily they didn't mind too much lol.

Whoever thought ex pros would be still quite quick?

Probably not on this bike, no, but even Ultegra mechanical groupsets are silly expensive! Still more expensive than I spent on the wheels.

Anyone got a spare groupset lying around....? :p
