Road Cycling

I've commuted for years through English winters and managed to keep my feet dry 99% of the time. Course, the best change was to buy Winter commuting boots, but even so with overshoes it was fine.
The water is getting in through his beard, girly tight chinos and hipster sleeveless shirt. I don't think we can save him. :D
I've sent you a trust e-mail. Would be glad to ride with you. Just don't expect to break any speed records with me in tow :D (I will do my fair share of wind blocking mind due to my natural bulk)!!
Ok cool, won't be a quick one anyways! I'm in the 'base mileage over winter' mindset already! :o

Have to go with the G-man on this. Overshoes are generally pretty rubbish in any kind of heavy rain (and especially so without mudguards).

Then again, grudas is in London rather than a city where it actually rains so.... :p

I think I am actually going to try the foil over toes trick soon. I've tried electrical tape all over the vents but it's a bit of a faff to apply and looks silly :D

That on the SKS guards?

I actually prefer the newer caps for some reason.

Set it all up and then unbolt each stay as you go, push the guard up, push cap over nut, then slide the guard back down making sure the cap is over the stay. Tighten up and job done.

I was obviously being a numpty. I only tried it on one stay mind you and it was getting the hole of the cap over the nut that was being a bit of a problem. I'd just got everything set up perfectly so I was probably not being rough enough with lifting the guard out of the way.

One grumble though and I'm not sure if this is a Raleigh thing or if they all do it but paint in the threaded mounting points. WHY YOU DO THAT?! I tapped them all out but it wouldn't be unreasonable for someone to be completely scuppered by that. I doubt most of my cycling friends would own a tap set, or know how to use one.

Don't get me started on retarded bicycle designs.

Took me a minute to work out how to get them on, putting it over the stay and trying to force it on the nut didn't work for me either.

Kinesis are ones that don't face bottom brackets still.

I want pics of you fully foiled up... I can imagine you looking like an alien if you do it properly... :D

Aha. Well I attempted this morning in all of 20 seconds before rushing out the door as I was time limited for a ride today. I cut too big a piece and it was too bunched up in my shoes so took it out and opted for oversocks - result = freezing toes!

Smashed it on the way back as I was running late. 23.5mph avg over 10mph with some headwind :D

Anyone with experience of building with Di2 - would you mind looking at these measurements I've just taken to see if they sound crazy? Handlebars are 42cm width and frame is XL Bish Bash Bosh.

I'll round up to the nearest available wire length obviously...

Levers - 2 * 36cm (350mm, 36cm seems a bit OTT)
FJ > RJ - 100cm (950mm, 100cm seems OTT again)
Battery - 40cm (350mm, internal battery, 40cm OTT)
FD - 40cm (350mm...etc)
RD - 90cm (This seems crazy high compared to what I see everywhere else. Based on chainstay length I'm thinking that 650mm will be more than enough)

Okay, after speaking to uv:

3 * 350mm (levers, FD)
1 * 1000mm (junction boxes)
1 * 750mm (internal battery)
1 * 650mm (RD)

Indeed. My levers came with hoses but no cables.

Annoyingly the hoses are in the form of those ones that you don't have to bleed so I have extra junction connectors messing up my bike.

Mine didn't (RS685). For one, they wouldn't know what size cables you need - you could have anything between 38cm and 46cm handlebars.

Makes sense. Didn't think like that as the 6871 tt brakes come with them attached unless you specifically buy without.

i bought it as a frame only.

Maybe they just don't like me :p.

Great frame nonetheless.

Went a pedal today since my Mrs has started working on a farm with horses, geese, chickens, rottweilers, savannah? Cats and various other farms stuff. I'm up and out for 7.10am and just stay awake.

Felt good the first half, had it in my head to just spin the small chain ring and go down a gear when I was pushing too hard on climbs.

Took a wrong turn which took me slightly further away but it was no biggy, took another wrong turn that meant I had to climb more again and the final killer was a headwind back from the a77 all the way over a Moor road, (which has a big **** off windfarm on it) meant that I was gubbed. Having to pedal down a hill that you can max out on usually and a 14 minute segment taking me 26 or so.

This cycling malarkey is so fun :)
