Road Cycling

Hahahahaha, good luck! :p

I've got arms & parts left from my mk2's if anyone needs them (I'll never use them again).

Ok temporary guards when you have no other option. I'd rather spend the money on an ass-saver and overshoes before fitting a better guard...

over-shoes are a complete waste of time if you want to stay dry, I must have 8 pairs at home and all of them soak through.. :o front guard is the saver here, rear was never a real issue to find :o

Part of the cartiledge pops out from behind the knee cap whenever I extend my leg (ie walk), and its rubbing/damaging the lateral collateral ligament. It hurts. Like buggery.
OUCH!

Some kinda support/semi-cast to stop extension and a crutch?!
It's not returning stuff to Tredz that is the issue - it's their utter lack of stock control and lying on the website about stock levels :)
Like most places then...!
If anyone is looking for a good commuter rucksack I've had this (12L but they do bigger) for a few weeks now and it's been great:

Clicky
Looks a good bag for the money, good make too, shame it's not brighter and got more pockets... I'm using one of these and it's superb. Although 20L is total overkill now I cycle home for lunch (lol), but comes in handy when needing to carry deliveries home from work! :D

You're wearing them wrong...

EDIT: Merino base layer suggestions guys, long/short sleeve doesn't matter, ideally don't want to spend over £20 so I can buy ~5. I'm feeling the cold loads recently and temperatures have not even been below 5 degrees this week. Will be wearing them under work clothes with possible cycling commuting use during sub zero winter weather.

Not merino but Prendas have a good selection

https://www.prendas.co.uk/collections/undervests-base-layers

I've been meaning to get one of the baselayers with the Windstopper front to stop wind chill.

Sportspursuit have some IsoBaa on offer eg https://www.sportpursuit.com/catalog/product/view/id/870840. Typical Sportspursuit though - seems to be the only place you can buy that brand, so £75 down to £35 may not be a killer offer.

Decatholon might be worth a look to get under £20 each

Why do I seem to forever be indexing my gears?

It really doesn't help that the barrel adjuster thread on the RD is partially threaded too. Would need a new RD to solve that though..

New cables needed?

Not too long ago that they were replaced and yes did adjust for cable stretch of course. Just seems every month or two I need to have a fiddle.

Still, at least I figured out how to do it myself rather than the one time I paid a bike shop for it after crash.

I do wonder if maybe my derailleur hanger has a bit of play in it.. It had to be straightened after that crash so perhaps it moves now and again? I think I'll order a spare anyway just a shame the spares only come in black :D

Roady, I am back in Hereford this weekend and am looking for a decent loop to do on Sunday. I quite like the look of the CoB route you did not so long back as it seems to follow quiet roads I have yet to ride. Minus the fall (sorry to hear about that) would you recommend the route? :)

Decathlon are on the expensive side and I don't tend to use them as have to pay for delivery where I am (no local store). Prendas look a good selection but not really 'cheap merino' options :p

Same with the Sportpursuit, 'unknown brand sale' making them similar price to known brands not in a sale, I'm always very suspicious of (and a regular thing on SP)! ;)

Cheapest I can find are really the DHB's 150g and then either going sleeveless to save a few quid as I'm ordering multiple or to order less with sleeves and then just rotate them on the colder days with my normal base layers... Black as well, wearing under shirts for work I ideally wanted lighter... Ho hum.
Am I ? front wheel picks up the water -> sprays on the shoe -> soaks through/runs down the leg -> wet shoes/socks.

I have no issues with cold, keeping water out is impossible.
Mudguards stop some of the spray and an overshoe with waterproofing will stop the spray settling on the shoe and just runs off the top of the overshoe... I'll agree that pure neoprene overshoes are not the best for constant heavy rain over a longer period.

Cable stretch, poor quality cables and rubbish collecting in your shifters/cable entry points can really play havoc with cable stretch. So can rusted/corroded cable outers! Whenever I change my cables or do a really thorough service I put a spot of lube on every cable entry and wipe my cables with it, but make sure to wipe any visible and excess away afterwards as it attracts dust/dirt!

Should be able to get a new barrel adjuster if you hunt around.

Mud guards went on the bike a treat. Along with loads of other faffing around removing stickers, reflectors etc. and my perfectionist nature I was still done well within an hour. I seem to remember the set on my hybrid absorbing an afternoon :o

They have changed the plastic caps on the stays since I last bought some and TBH I didn't like the new design at all so I dremelled the stays off almost flush and did away with the caps. It does mean I've got no adjustment but I've never had to adjust my other ones and the fit is spot on at the moment.

I did have one derp moment when bagging up all the unused bits that came with the guards when I came across the spacers to allow the stays to go over your disc calipers :o My custom bent stay is a much more elegant solution anyway :p

Finished it off with a quick squirt of silicon polish and then it was out for a test ride. Blue sky when I set off, 3 miles later and it was absolutely hammering it down :( Had to head straight home as I wasn't wearing the right stuff and was basically absorbing the rain! Bike works well though. It is actually much more sprightly than I initially gave it credit for and the missing cog is the massively underused 6th gear on my other bike so 8 speed doesn't feel like too much of a downgrade.

Only downside is my left heel catching the frame. A longer ride showed that it happens more often than I initially thought. I'll try adjusting my left cleat as I only need to win a mm or 2 and it won't be an issue.

That on the SKS guards?

I actually prefer the newer caps for some reason.

Set it all up and then unbolt each stay as you go, push the guard up, push cap over nut, then slide the guard back down making sure the cap is over the stay. Tighten up and job done.

Yeah it's a great route, mostly quiet roads and 2 really long climbs. I've a bunch on my rwgps profile if you want some ideas? Most of mine target a specific route taking in roads I don't otherwise travel, or want to. Or a climb/specific Strava segments.

I can't decide when to head out, need to do ideally 50+ miles to recover from not riding all week. My bike needs bar tape fitting and a complete clean (not done it since last weekend!) which kinda rules out the shop ride tomorrow morning unless I do it all tonight in the cold & dark... If I don't get out tomorrow I'd be up for a sunday ride if you wanted an extra groupie? Just throw me a trust email/strava comment/facebook message to let me know when/where :)
Thanks, unknown brand again. Logo very similar to Dare2B! :D

Tredz are particularly bad for it tbh. I know lots of places aren't perfect but Tredz are perfectly cack.

Echo'd.
My girlfriend bought me aerobar extensions for the TT bike. Tredz site said they were in stock and she ended up emailing them 3 times over the course of a month and each time got a date of a few days later for them being received from supplier.

Eventually came 5 weeks after ordering. But they weren't going to contact her to apologise for this or anything, it was only because she was on at them a week after ordering as they hadn't even been shipped yet.... "in stock" utter BS!

They offered her 10% off her next purchase... She's a tough cookie though, she replied to them saying "I will never buy from you again so please refund that 10% as a refund on this purchase via PayPal".... She got it as well :p

I just bought those mudguards Grudas has from them though. £4 cheaper than the supplier. And they were shipped 2 hours after I hit buy on them.

I've sent you a trust e-mail. Would be glad to ride with you. Just don't expect to break any speed records with me in tow :D (I will do my fair share of wind blocking mind due to my natural bulk)!!

I've commuted for years through English winters and managed to keep my feet dry 99% of the time. Course, the best change was to buy Winter commuting boots, but even so with overshoes it was fine.

Yeah mine went on amazingly quickly too! Like 20 mins for the rear and around 1 hour of faffing with the front (which I'm still not happy with), might faff with it some more this weekend if I don't ride and do a load of maintenance...

Yeah newer SKS Chromo's. I have no experience of the 'old' but found it quite a neat solution (compared to the usual blunting of my junior hacksaw blade when cutting them down)!
they were shipped 2 hours after I hit buy on them.
Secret is to buy new things they've not had a chance to lose in the warehouse yet then! ;)

Pretty much done here so going to immerse myself in DCR comments for the last bit of 'work'. Have a good weekend all! :)

They did a local hill climb recently near Beachy Head. Just went out to check out the hill - pretty tough! Probably one of the hardest I've tried.

Yeah I probably should do a better job when changing cables. I got it just perfect earlier with some front and rear barrel adjuster movement so will leave it be until it goes again then I'll likely change the cables yet again - maybe even the outers.

Unfortunately it's the female thread on the RD itself that appears to be kaput!
