Road Cycling

19th November is the day I will experience some pain.

24hrs. Non stop.

Just need to try and set it up as a Zwift event now.

Good luck!
Eat lots, drink lots.
If you normally drink a lot of caffeine, you can give it up for 4-5 days before and you get quite a kick off it after that.

24 hours on a bike is bad enough, 24 hours stationery on a turbo will be mind-numbing!

THAT'S LEGAL TENDER!

I know that and you know that but many wouldn't have ever seen it before and people dont want to accept something they have never seen before for fear of being ripped off.

Many countries outside of the UK wont accept Scottish money at foreign exchanges. :p

They've been really good so far.
I'm not surprised, they forgot the headcap after all...! ;)
Word for word:
"oh, my son is going to university next year and I bet he will always come back home with that Scottish money which will be a pain.... it's in Edinburgh, is it nice there?"
I hope your reply was suitably broad highlander that she googled the words "wotyeken" and "damebawlbag" soon afterwards.

Goes without saying many of us here will sponsor you, would be nice to have an option to 'drop-in' and ride with you for part of it too!? :)

I am now back into the warm and welcome embrace of Scotland.
My venture to that England was fine and well. Thank **** I didn't take a bike because cycling in that Burnley/Rawtenstall area would have been my death. If I lived in this area I would not ride a bike, not a chance in hell. The steep little hills are amazing, but the amount of cars/people is just ridiculous and everyone is on a complete mission at all times.

Fortunately the rest of England is not like Burnley otherwise the rest of us would have left a long time ago. :D

First ride home since the clocks changed, it was proper dark. Most of it was ok but there were a couple of sketchy bits. I've put one of my dodgy Chinese torch lights on now, so hopefully that'll help tomorrow.

Had a decent session on the turbo this evening. Only popped on for half an hour cos the football is on. Felt much easier than last night anyway. I must remember not to skip it for 10 days again!

Thanks man. I'm trying to get Zwift to set it up for me at the moment. See what I can work out with them.
Been really crap today and yesterday, not been on the trainer so getting out on the mountain bike tomorrow lunch up some hills.
It's so dark out now, all batteries were dying on me today. Di2, garmin and rear light!

I'm going to get wiped out doing it one day but I just had a great ride out on the pitch black lanes :o One of those where you really can't be bothered but within minutes of getting out you were glad you did.

Couldn't be bothered with my HR strap so I was reliant on optical HR from my fenix and got a low, for me, average of 124 bpm. I was taking it easy though so I didn't gasp in too much frosty 5'C air :p Maybe it was about right, maybe not.

Maybe it is the cold but my Moon Comet seems to be on it's last legs. Fully charged, 40 minutes on 50% flash and the low battery light was flashing :(

Best price/place to buy a wahoo kickr or tacx neo?

Moving at the end of the month to the UK. Cost is $300 to post mine, considering selling and buying a new one!

Tried to run to work again this morning. Utterly failed. Legs are a bit ruined from walking on sat, turbo sun, run mon, turbo tue. Really need to get my mojo back :s

Three degrees this morning, that kinda sucked. If it gets much colder or starts getting properly frosty I'll be getting the bus or driving in.

Bawls, just realised that's the day I'm in Cardiff watching Wales v Japan. Would be back in the late evening so depending on time I could jump on then... What time you thinking of starting? Could catch you early sunday morning :)

Yup! This time of year is brutal on battery life (and my USB charger!). Really impressed with my Exposure Trace & TraceR. Using them as 'be seen' lights on pulse/flash and getting 15+ hours use of them between charges (45min-1 hour per day, so 3 weeks+ if I don't leisure ride!). My 'main' front & rear are only generally used in the evenings and are lasting over 2 weeks, that'll change once used in the morning (Cateye Volt 800 & Moon Nebula on solid).

Really dark! There was a good article on RCUK with a load of commuting lights options if you're in the market. Some makes/brands not even I was aware of for reasonable prices (FWE/Bontrager), although they're mostly 'be seen' lights. There was also an article on Xeccon, a fairly new UK brand with some competitive looking prices.

Exposure Sirius mk5 & TraceR (550 lumen front) is a great bundle if you're after 2 lights with some real punch. Bought to replace my mrs' cheapy Aldi light (rated as 300 lumen and not as bright as the Cateye Volt 100 lumen she has) and I wanted something with enough power for pitch-black/bad weather. Charging isn't that convenient (unique cable) and there's so many modes she gets confused, but great battery life & typical Exposure quality built unit & mounting. The bundle is certainly a good option for features : brightness : price.

Had a good one myself too, just rolling around while trying to catch up with 'The Walking Dead' (S2!) before trying again to get my InRide to calibrate. Try as I might to ride at 32.2 kph I just can't hold it long enough for the calibration to 'start' and prompt me to rolldown. I tried hitting it and doing the rolldown regardless in the hope one of the times it would reset it's 'Previous Calibration: 1.75' (quoted on screen).

No dice. Even with the last one!

My Tacx Vortex smart should get delivered today/tomorrow so that might be the last time I try. Paul you're welcome to the (working) replacement InRide if you want to try it yourself - won't send you the duff one for you to exploit their support! Trust msg me! Note: you'll have better features/luck if running it from iPhone/iPad and not Android

Have a friend maybe interested in my Road Machine, if he isn't then someone online has offered me £130 excluding postage for it (postage is going to cost quite a bit I think due to the weight). Ideally I wanted £160 for it but I had priced that selling it with the InRide and the Vortex being £350 not <£320. Basically flogging the old Carrera makes my upgrade to a smart trainer about ~£75. Bargain! :D

Hopefully that's an isolated incident!? Just started using a Moon Nebula rear and very impressed with it, just not charged it yet! Was a bargain for half price late last spring... I basically have 2* 100 lumen rears now! (just don't run them max power) :D

With TR the instant I hit 21mph the InRide tells me to coast. Does sound like there's something seriously dodgy with the app you're using.

FT: Using iOS? Kinetic changed the Android app, the previous was a mirror of the iOS app (with lots of broken features), the current 'kinetic.fit' (since early 2015) is totally different and has features 'coming soon' (poorly developed/supported). The 'update' last week changed nothing, not even the version number (v1.0)!

UK pricing is all totally hosed due to the poor Sterling exchange rate. The Neo comes from Europe (Tacx are in Germany?) and the KICKR from the US. You'll probably find the Wahoo prices more stable than the Neo in most places. The only 'deals' you find are second hand or retailer/etailers still using the RRP (which will probably change!)

Why the move this time of year? Work? It's cold!

What about everything else? Bikes? Couldn't the KICKR make it over with all house stuff at a later date/another time?

Hardly surprising as that's quite a big loading of fatigue after several weeks rest! Take it easy/steady mate, no point injuring yourself or hindering the collarbone recovery! :o

Yup cold here too, 3.8 degrees walking the dog and then 4.5 on the way in to work. Very low bright sun in our eyes which made things tricky (commuting to the East, previously to the West, not something I'd thought of!), although it did make it feel warmer (not much cold breeze). Can see the cycle path we use being an ice rink in subzero as it's very smooth tarmac in places...!:(

Looks like jan had it below freezing?! :o

In a more simple explanation. You'll only feel 7%. Your on screen dude will travel at the speed of the 15% you see on screen, but you'll physically max your resistance of the trainer at 7, so you can only ever feel you're climbing a 7% hill on the Vortex.

There are loads of 15-25% hills around me. And they are ****ing scary in the damp/wet/leaves/mud on road.

Coming down they're scary, and going up your back wheel can be spinning all over the place as if it's icy, regardless of how you're trying to put the power down. Perhaps it's my tyres, but GP4000s II and Schwalbe Ones both slipped.

Maybe I should go for a Bushido/Ironman :(

I have some like that round here, even on the mtb you're hanging over the front or the wheels coming off the ground, but over the front your rear spins up.
Not sure trainer could really account for that, as you just don't ever have that same angle of riding, just resistance, so it's never going to be totally accurate.
