Road Cycling

I used a 'shared use' cycle path yesterday...

On another note 950 miles in October. Damn... if I knew I would have added an extra 50 miles to get that up to 1000 in a month.

Damn 938km for me. So close to the 1k! to be fair, that's pretty much put me back on target to hit 5k KM for the year, which is nice. Not like some of you but reckon I can smash that next year.

Who were you sharing with, your personal photographer? :D

They've been cutting / butchering the hedgerows all round near me, so yay, punctures ahoy, probably.

Wish they'd sweep up after themselves.

I think I managed about 1/10th of your distance last month :(

Derp. I remember you saying now!

Probably won't try it as guess what... Vortex arrived! Quite surprised as Wiggle delivery said 'free before monday' so I paid the £2.99 to get 'delivered before friday'.

Surely you can just set your PM to control your trainer and not have to bother with a Spindown Calibration? Or does the KK-RM not accommodate that?

The PM on the KK trainer uses the spindown calibration to calculate the losses of the tyre/roller interface to more accurately calibrate the trainer. You could just ride straight away without it but because the tyre/roller interface varies so much depending on how tightly your screw the roller to the tyre, tyre pressure, fluid temp etc. its best to do the spindown.

But if you are controlling the resistance of the trainer by an actual independent PM then a spindown isn't required...

(Which is what I believe them both to be doing)

I've not got a PWM. ;)

The majority of smart trainers & software don't seem to work quite like that, FE-C compatible trainers are generally controlled by software which is reading the power output from the device it's 'controlling' and not from a different source (like a PWM). Think Trainer Road have a piece of software ('Device Relay'?) which you might be able to utilise (it's made to convert BTLE readings to ANT+ so there may be a way to 'confuse' the software into thinking the PWM output, if broadcast on BTLE, was from the Turbo and not the PWM?).

Majority of smart trainers can be controlled by a headunit or mobile app to introduce the resistance (ride courses, training plans etc), much the same way that TR/Zwift/etc control the smart trainer. I'm unsure if any of these apps would take your power output to substitute the reading from the trainer.

Unless you're Roady and can't use it.
Lol, shurrup! You try pedalling at 23.2 kmph and holding it steady! ;)

As noted I could get pretty close with my speed sensor but the InRide is calculating speed from the InRide (which all it's doing is counting revolutions of the roller) it's all over the place. I'm guessing similar to what DCR found when looking at cadence. As it's 'calculated' the reading are all over the place to work the average, not 'actual' speed...? :p

Roady, yeah will drop you a pm tomorrow. Be useful for cx where I can't warm up and down with power. But if you can sell it do that!

Whoa, you're giving him a PM? How generous :)
Yeah, it permanently reports 'One meeeellion Roadywatts®'. :p

I've not looked to sell it as *cough*, technically I never bought it...!

Although feel free to send me some beer money when sending me postage :p (and I'll share it with FT!) ;)

Even if you have the same calibration 'problem' I've had, then the power reading was constantly ~30W higher (calculated from trainer unit speed by the InRide) than the zpower on Zwift (calculated from wheel speed by S&C sensor). YMMV - you have more things to compare it against than me (an actual PWM)!

Just battered it home from work so the mrs could get to a meeting we'd both forgotten about. Covered 11.2 miles in 39 minutes flat, for an average of 17.2mph. I think that's my best time yet, but I'm not sure. No achievements somehow!

Single speed is brutal on the slopes. I'm dying now.

In other news my dodgy Chinese Cree Megawatt Portable Sun (Facemelter Edition) torch was a great help on the dark country lanes I struggled with yesterday. Even just lighting 10-20ft in front is a huge help.

Pretty speedy Von. Amazing what how bad weather + lighting can be inspirational... :p

@Roady - no need to share any postage costs with me. I'm assuming there's no "sale" going on. Otherwise MM would be the appropriate place.

Quick midweek blast. Last time I felt my toes was around 7pm tonight - I've had to take my socks off just to check my toes still attached.

ALDI socks limit has been found.....5c and below and they're useless. What socks you sub zero boys using? :p
