Road Cycling

What are this year's go-to Chinese search lights? I had one 3-4 years ago but I've lost it and I'm back on my bike now.

The one I owned had a separate battery pack and was as bright as a car headlight which is basically what I'm after. Links appreciated!

Anything on aliexpress promising 5000 lumen.

Although you'll get a better quality unit, with more useful shaped light pattern, a battery that lasts and probably brighter light by buying one of the 1000+ lumen ones sold through normal cycling channels. Of course you'll pay a premium for it.

My previous Cateye Volt 400 (400 lumen) was much brighter than a cree 1000 lumen chinese light. Admittedly it was 3 times the price! ;)

Worst decision your wife has ever made update Berger? :P

:(

Left short/medium term.

We did just over 5 years there, but trying the UK again for a while. We now have dual citizenship, so I can pretend I'm James Bond with two passports. It also means it would be easy to move back there, or to NZ as well.

Had a trip to Merlin cycles after an interview today, didn't get anything exciting & picked up a spare track pump from my dads. Still not found my spare helmet & two almost new GP4000s that are 2-3 years old now so need using!

I meant bike. There are many Attain specs :)

Find somewhere locally that stocks a brand with similar frame sizing? Can't get to an Evans'/Halfords? To be honest even getting a general sizing idea at Halfords would give you a good idea - if you're right in the middle of sizing for a 56cm frame for brand #1 you're unlikely to need a 54cm/58cm in brand #2. I wouldn't think Cube's sizing was that drastically different to Giant/Felt/Cannondale...?!

So after getting conflicting recommendations I'm just going to catch a train to Cambridge (Rutland Cycling) from Kings cross tomorrow to test the 56cm and 58cm.

Meh...got half way to work this morning and realised I had left my bag with all my clothes in at home. Cue a miserable trudge back in the cold and dark to get it.

Berger, if you are living up near Wigan then you have the Forrest of Bowland not a million miles away. Fun cycling to be had round there. You are right though, mostly flat apart from a few short sharp climbs around here.

It's alright for longer climbs once you get a bit further North. Up to Heywood, near Blackburn and Bury, or over to Yorkshire. But yeah, in the immediate vicinity it is just loads of cat 4s at a gradient north of comfortable.

I rode in today. Quite nice. Won't be riding tomorrow - looks like it's gonna be horribly frosty. I was aiming for 6k miles this year but I'll settle for 5.5k. All being well I'll have commuted on about 2/3 of my working days, so that's pretty good.

You're in London and there's no place closer than Cambridge that has them?

Did you try Cycle Surgery? Loads of branches and they stock Cube. Though they're also the same company that shone a torch down my carbon frame to determine if it was damaged or not so I wouldn't recommend them on the customer service or maintenance front :D

Cycle Surgery has them but I've dealt with two different branches before and never again. The employees just don't want to deal with customers so I rather travel further and get someone who actually cares.

Also there isn't a store that stocks both sizes so I have to visit two different stores and they will both charge me the full price to test ride them leaving me with £3.9k out of pocket in the end.

Obviously trying them out is the best option but I'd always size down if between sizes. It's easier to make a small bike bigger than a big bike smaller. Plus, you'd look more Pro with a longer stem and more seatpost.

Drove to work today as temperature said -4 over night and my weather app said -2. Car was frozen solid and temperature registered by car dropped from -3 to -5 by the time I got to work 2 miles away. Brr! Cycle path I used looked totally covered in frost so any black ice would've been impossible to see. Not much moisture around for normal ice, so glad I chose to drive!
Turns out my dad stole my helmet so I've gotten get a new one! Time to get on Ribble or Merlin!
Mantel had some deals and well worth checking out. Might not be many 'Black Friday' kinda deals left but I'd fully expect helmets not discounted to be in stock and possibly with good deals on. Got my Kask Infinity from Acycles but didn't notice any 'Black Friday' specific deals, just occasional good prices on Kask (if you were after Kask).

Apologies, I thought you were after sizing not fitting and test rides. I thought you just wanted to sit on a frame in store to judge which size you needed...

Surprising they require the full amount but I guess they aren't demo bikes and they're actually new bikes that will be sold at full price? Normally they wouldn't let those be test ridden much at all besides round a car park.

I demoed a Propel at the weekend. Just left a credit card I don't use very often with them.. asked if they needed to charge it or whatever first and they said "Hmm.. Could do I guess". Tried to charge 1p but I couldn't remember my PIN so after 2 tries they didn't care and just let me take the bike for "a couple of days".

Nice bike but honestly I think the Medium was too big for me. I attempted to put the saddle down 5mm at one point and it could only go about 3mm further! I got lower back pain quite early into both of my test rides of it. 42cm handlebars are certainly noticeabley wider than my 40cm usual despite not exactly having narrow shoulders. 105 shifters don't feel quite as comfortable as my 6800 and the lever action seemed less smooth but other than that gear changing was just like 6800.

At least the wheels sounded nice!

Not a day for the road bike today and drove to work. Might be alright tomorrow but each day will be touch and go. Might have to resort to the dreaded turbo.

Actually I asked about that. They're all out for people to look at and test ride if they pay the full amount. So I would be buying essentially a demo bike.

Will update after my trip to Cambridge later this afternoon
