Road Cycling

Urgh, trying to tune gears when you have no tools or workstand is terrible.

Installed cassette onto the Neo, however I don't have a chain whip to get it super tight so the gear tune is out compared to the bike with a wheel on. I brought the cassette lockring tool but the Park Tool chainwhip was heavy (and we were already 10% over on luggage allowance... three cases, a bike, two carry on cases, a laptop bag and the biggest handbag my wife could find!).

Have to go and buy a chain whip today, tighten it and then try again. Going to be wearing gloves while on the trainer its that cold!

Chain whip to tighten a cassette is a new one on me!

Oh, I see, installing on to a turbo so there is no wheel to act as resistance.

That's it!

Did an hour on London Zwift.

Neo beats Kickr like for like if they are the same price.

I prefer the slight rocking of the Neo, the faster resistance changes, it looks cooler and the quiet!

Anyone know if you can set resistance to zero to make it easy to tune gears?

Fun times this morning

10 miles into ride and my RD cable snapped leaving the cable head in the shifter again. I didn't really fancy trying to keep up with a mate single-speed style round Surrey so did 10 miles back in 50x11 - average of 55 cadence, my usual is 95-100! It hurt, though was strangely not a bad challenge. Perhaps I should try a single speed :)

To top it off when I got back I noticed this :(

I think I'm going to start changing cables even more frequently. So annoying when the cable head gets stuck...

Black Friday sale at Chapeau seems to give some pretty good discounts.

No idea what the quality is like as never ordered before but I've ordered (well my Mum and sister have for xmas) a long sleeve thermal jersey, a short sleeve jersey, arm warmers and socks.

Chapeau!!

Lethal, if you're regularly snapping cables at the head end something can't be right...

Do you have any tight bends in the outers or shift under load regularly?

Well regularly being it's happened twice in ~6000 miles. Rarely shift under load really. I'll have to give the outers a look over properly. I was hoping the bike shop wouldn't change anything and just remove the cable end or fit new outers/inners. They only fitted a new inner. I'll be changing all the outers soon.

When I still had my Boardman it had Tiagra shifters so the cables came out at 90 degrees, in my inexperience I created a tight bend and wrapped these under the bar wrap to 'tidy' things up a bit.

Wasn't too long before I snapped a cable and the shifter head was wrapped around inside. LBS sorted it but did comment on my creativity. Fortunately I was only around a mile from home at the end of a ride. Was a bit surprised when I pulled the entire cable out from the downtube :p

New Tiagra has tidy cables :) Never really liked the look of the cables that go into the side of the shifter... Mind you I bet the shifter doesn't chew the cable half as much!

Thanks for this. Didn't think I'd need it at the time but just got Cycle Republic (basically Halfords) to match the price on a new set after yesterday's sidewall cut!

Tuned gears a bit better today, put in ergo mode at 50w which made it easier.

Did 4 laps of the hilly Wattopia course, another plus of the Neo is the Kickr seemed to have a ten minute warm up period where the power/resistance was out which the Neo doesn't.

Any OCUK members with a Cube Attain 2016 or 2017? Looking to get some advice on frame size for 5'11.5" (32" approx inseam). Unable to get to a store for any of the attain line.

I've got an Agree. Be warned that Cubes tend to run a little small. E.g. a Specialized 54cm is the correct size for me... but Cube I'm a 56cm.

Not too sure about the Attain geo itself.

Also, don't do approx inseam. Actually measure properly and ideally get bike fitted. At the very least measure inseam and height then use the tool below to see what size is recommended.

By approx, I do that exact method but it honestly just depends where my sack is at the time of measuring. What year is your agree? If you don't mind telling me your height then I can look up the geometries between the two.

I would guess 56cm or 58cm frame. But don't take my word for it, go and have a sit. £1000 is a lot to buy a bike unseen/unsat.

Yeah I'm inbetween these two sizes. I've gone ahead and put an order in for 58cm. I can return it but just a hassle really.

2015. Height - 174cm.

I hear that pre 2016 sizes are smaller than norm but even so, that should still mean 58cm will fit me well. We'll see, bike to be delivered on the 30th. If it doesn't fit then I'll just return it for a 56cm. Though I'm pretty sure a stem swap will sort it out fine.

Mine turned up the other day, I'm awkwardly slim so find small/medium's never really fit my body right.

The etape jerseys fit me perfectly and the quality seems to be top notch right down to the packaging!

Did you find the geo data? I have it somewhere if not. Should be able to compare from that.

I have. I heard correctly, 2015 geo is weirdly small but 2016 onwards is pretty much the same as other manufacturers.

You being 5'7.4" on a 56cm should mean that 58cm is good for me.

Has anyone dealt with Rutland Cycling returns? Not their 30 day test ride but just their returns.

I make 174cm = 5'8.5". Don't make me even shorter :p

Interesting to know they changed the sizes a bit in 2016. Good thing I never got past temptation and pressed the button on a spare Cube 56cm!
