Road Cycling

Felt rubbish all weekend, managed a grand total of 34 miles last week (weekly avg usually 80-90). Just no energy, sleeping well but waking up tired. Must be some kinda illness but I've not got anything more than a slight sniffle (normal for me this time of year) and not got any worse. I usually take a couple of days easy which brings on any illness, then recover quickly so this is quite unusual for me! 5-6 days. Intending on driving tomorrow and possibly wednesday as there's going to be some ice around (-4 & -5 forecast). With another low mileage commuting week on the cards I need to get on the turbo a couple of times, I see no reason to take it easy any longer, Kill or cure!

Anyone want to sponsor a pro team? NFTO look like they won't be around next season... Last month John Wood (founder & financial backer) announced he wasn't supporting next season but Tom Barras continued with the team as he had secured some sponsors, one of the main ones pulled out and they need to secure a new one this week otherwise no 2017 season...:(

Totally unrelated, NTFO Edmund Bradbury (one of the big names alongside Ian Bibby moving to JLT-Condor next year) getting 'nudged' by a Taxi (after it cut him up, he kicked it and stopped in front of it to talk to the driver).

never heard of them before, thank you for this link
anyone ordered from them before?
Yup, used them a couple of times and always been happy (but not had to return anything). Not sure why I don't check out their website more often as they run occasionally very good deals on certain things - accessories/tools/helmets.
Urgh, trying to tune gears when you have no tools or workstand is terrible.
You can use a chain instead of a chainwhip... Or just a leather glove/rag wrapped around the cassette/chain!

As for a workstand replacement - rope over any beam is the best one. I've previously tied my front wheel to a wheelbarrow, hooked saddle from an upturned broom and a block of wood nailed into a T piece under the BB. It worked but wasn't very stable!;)

Welcome back anyhow, where are you living/staying? Might be one of the regulars who'd lend you some spare tools until yours arrive?
I prefer the slight rocking of the Neo, the faster resistance changes, it looks cooler and the quiet!
Don't think anyone else here has a Neo, Ross should have his arrive soon though...
did 10 miles back in 50x11 - average of 55 cadence, my usual is 95-100! It hurt, though was strangely not a bad challenge. Perhaps I should try a single speed :)
Weird riding like that isn't it! Quite refreshing, I strangely enjoyed it after my wipe out! The stationary start-stop traffic for 3/4 of it was interesting though...!
Any OCUK members with a Cube Attain 2016 or 2017? Looking to get some advice on frame size for 5'11.5" (32" approx inseam). Unable to get to a store for any of the attain line.
Find somewhere locally that stocks a brand with similar frame sizing? Can't get to an Evans'/Halfords? To be honest even getting a general sizing idea at Halfords would give you a good idea - if you're right in the middle of sizing for a 56cm frame for brand #1 you're unlikely to need a 54cm/58cm in brand #2. I wouldn't think Cube's sizing was that drastically different to Giant/Felt/Cannondale...?!

Hey Roadie,

I'm living in Wigan at the minute, so Vonhelmet is the closest user, then FT and some other guys not too far away. Not sure about joining a club yet, got to look for one with a racing bias.

Not been brave enough to go out on the road yet, today isn't a bad day, but I have a job interview after lunch so cant! I used to ride up to Preston and out towards Southport a bit. Odd with it being so flat, I was used to doing 2000-3000m climbing a week. I follow my dad on Strava, he does 200-500m (on a 200km week).

I might get on the trainer again later, I held the cassette with a rag and used a 1/2" socket set to do it up as tight as possible. I don't think its 40nm, but its tight anyway.

Burger. Ah, that makes sense after you asking Von about areas to ride (I think?). Unsure how close some of the others are or the possibility of borrowing tools!? You'd have to ask! ;)

I never tend to tighten lockrings much over 15-20 nM ('man tight' with my 30cm tool) and I've never had one come undone. Know most lockrings seems to be marked for 40 nM which (to me) sounds excessive, the lockring isn't a load bearing component, it's only there to keep the cassette cogs on the spines (which are load bearing)... Most of us would need to buy a new big torque wrench to go that high and we'd not need it for any other components...!
Berger, have you left Oz behind permanently?
Not sure about permanent but certainly short-medium term (which I'm assuming with the talk of moving all his house stuff over).

Has anyone used a Halfords cycle to work voucher somewhere other than Halfords?

Thinking of picking a £1k voucher up for a cheap fixie and spending the rest on new helmet, lights and a few other bits.

Current 'Black Friday/Cyber Monday' Deals I've spotted:
DHB Pro triple lens glasses, £7.50 in white (grabbed myself a 3rd set, excellent winter eye protection!).
SRAM PC1130, under £14 for what I consider to be the best 11 speed chain.
Insane deal on the Fizik Arione R5 £34, sold out within minutes, no idea if there will be more!
High5 'starter pack' £3, bottle, 2 gels, 3 tabs, 2 energy drinks. Killer deal if you like the High5 bottles.
Exposure Sirius mk5 & TraceR £91, great combo set. Bought one for my other half a couple of months back in a great deal... For almost £20 more!

Not spotted any others worth reporting (not really looked at wheels/bikes myself).

Meh...got half way to work this morning and realised I had left my bag with all my clothes in at home. Cue a miserable trudge back in the cold and dark to get it.

Berger, if you are living up near Wigan then you have the Forrest of Bowland not a million miles away. Fun cycling to be had round there. You are right though, mostly flat apart from a few short sharp climbs around here.

Evans twice, once for a bike which I topped up, the other to buy some vectors, all nice and easy.

Damn. I had that saddle in my basket on chainreaction but was waiting to push it over £100 for BC discount. Whoops!

Also PC1130.. Not super impressed with mine compared to Ultegra chain although it was about half the price and did half the mileage.. :D
If only being in your basket had reserved it! Seen them sell S/H for £60-70 and paid £55 for one myself (then broke it 10 months later)!
the other to buy some vectors
If only my company did a c2w! Really annoying as 3 out of the 5 directors cycle and the MD is a bike commuter too! Not many other staff do (60-150 employees depending on time of year) so it would be a perfect incentive... Maybe one day :(
