Road Cycling

Usually Wiggle and DPD are pretty good FT. Must just be increased demand as others said.

You should get a message from DPD soon if it is actually going to arrive today!

I've nearly always had good experiences with DPD tbh so it's more Wiggle that I'm blaming here :)

Anyhow, paypal dispute filed last night, Wiggle contacted via various means and no contact from DPD (which as you say, I'd expect if Wiggle had pulled their finger out). I'm off to the Trafford Centre Evans to get my rotors instead.

Rode 'home' last night, my mate I was going to ride with after work dropped out so I took a hilly backroad route home due to my slightly different start location (dropping car for the better half). I'd forgot my HRM and only had 1 drink with me (it was 28 degrees!) so took it fairly easy. Wanted to scout out the 'Golf course climb' as it'd been a while since I'd climbed it and I'd set myself a 25 minute goal on a segment heading towards it. Wasn't going with the intentions of beating the goal and took it fairly easy, was aware I was several days since any real miles & with a longer hilly route back. Smashed the goal (23 mins) & fairly sure I could take another minute off that. Golf course climb went well and even taking it fairly easy I was a minute faster up it than my previous PR.

Part of the route back took in some climbs I utterly buried myself on a month or so ago when riding them with some other guys. I was only 10s & 15s off the pace on them I'm quite surprised about. I was even 1min 30s faster up a later climb. Every segment back towards 'home' (things had cooled down slightly) I PR'd and have ridden them more. I think the lazy week I had last week really helped my recovery & power levels! :D
Gabba 2...
<snip> cool when I'm hot, and not get clammy.
The only time I've considered a Gabba I was put off by the weight of the fabric and how unbreathable it felt! Isn't the better option to have warmers & gilet over a normal short sleeve? As you're not riding tempo you could even use a packable overnight as it'd keep the chill off/warmth in? Obviously if it's properly raining you'd be better with a real jacket...
edit2: Lol.... Order apparently not processed but I also can't cancel it because it has already been processed. "Checkmate", says Wiggle.

lulz. To be honest their estimated delivery days and order processing has got really unreliable since their warehouse move. They blamed systems before I think (like Canyon did), but there should be no excuse now. I wonder if they do use the same system as Canyon lol?! ;)
Yep, ordered Friday morning and turned up via DPD at 1:15PM on Saturday. Can't complain for £3.99 for a Saturday delivery, which is what most companies charge for a standard 2-3 day Mon-Fri.
We're really quite spoilt as many/most of the big cycling etailers do a fairly good 'free delivery'! ;)

Why on earth would anybody get on a turbo when it's like this outside?

Time crunched :p :( And the road down by the river is fairly boring. The fun stuff is all up past Marlow, and I don't have time to get there, and back in the 1 hour I have in the morning. That's where the turbo comes in. Get a lot more done on the turbo doing TrainerRoad in 1 hour.

About the Gabba: It's probably a bit heavy for what you want. Maybe a Perfetto, as it's a lot lighter. And if the weather keeps up like this, you'll probably only need a normal jersey and arm warmers.

First ride on 11 speed, grease on the freehub from the factory is too thick so I couldn't freewheel without the chain skipping off. It is OK at low speed but as the speed and resistance increases it gets worse.

Had to pedal like crazy on descents like I was on a fixie.

Good job I put an 11-28 on as 6 weeks of doing not much meant I needed that extra tooth!

I'll clean it all off tomorrow and should be sorted. Then just a tweak on the shifter position.

Wiggle finally admitted that they haven't packed the order in time and sent a refund for the £4. Of course, ignoring all my contact regarding asking them to cancel the whole order.

Anyhow, new rotors bought from Evens. Now to fit them and see if I can get out for a quick spin before my guest arrives.

^ That is reminiscent of the vintage style team kits. In that it doesn't have 101 sponsors, logo's and other gross imagery slapped all over it that looks like a peloton pile up :p

@Roady: You were asking about local(ish) MTB the other week? Based on the weekend I'd suggest Forest of Dean for an easier ride and Afan if you don't mind likely bad weather and very rocky with lots of obstacles. I did the major trail at Afan (W2) which was about 45km. A fair amount of long climbing in that and quite technical. Sunday morning the weather was looking the same for Afan so we took a gamble and visited Forest of Dean (I'm pretty sure as soon we crossed the border from Wales to England the weather went from misty rain to sun!). Very nice trail centre, only did the blue and the red trails but they were enough and good fun.. certainly worth a visit as it's not far from you.

It looked like the roads around there would be good fun on a road bike too! Saw a group of road cyclists on a long climb up that we can only wish for over here...
Forest of Dean is nice and close to me, so that's probably where I would head. Great info, thanks! :D

Any idea what climb/road it was?

He's training his suffering, not his legs! Or maybe for the Tour of Qatar?! ;)

Popped out at lunch and the car reports 34 degrees here! :o

I think it was this one: https://www.strava.com/segments/1772624

The group we were behind seemed to be trying hard to start. They were setting a good pace about 20mph for a while before it seemed to slow down and you saw those ahead dropping back to the group we were behind.

Just stalked flyby.. looks like one of the guys we were following claimed 3rd overall on that segment :D https://www.strava.com/activities/643953628/segments/15742969426

Omfg. Shut up and take my money. When was that released? I'd been waiting/hoping it wouldn't just be a ladies' exclusive. What's the sizing like for Rapha? I'm an XL bloke when it comes to normal clothing/t shirts/hoodies/etc, but will I be an XL with Rapha sizing? I've never bought a jersey before... :o

I got the email about 20 seconds before I had to post it here. :p:D

I'm a small/medium in most and small is quite an aero fit for me, medium being slightly relaxed, so L/XL would be good for you I would say.

It's quite similar to Castelli sizes, however I fit a small Castelli.

FAO Vonhelmet and any other Wigan based cyclists:

Just seen a message on my CC forum from one of the members regarding Shaley Brow last night, if you are ever out there in the next week or so, I'd probably avoid it:

I was out this evening cycling as I went over shaley brow, there was a white Mercedes van parked up with three lads in there 20's as I got to the top I stopped to take a picture two of the lads got out, they was wearing tracksuits one of them made a comment on the view he had a Scouse accent he walked past me on the opposite side of the road then crossed over behind me the other one was walking towards me. I clipped in and shot off. Just thought I'd let you all know incase any of you are cycling in that area. It could have been completely innocent but, seemed very dodgy to me.

So as my Home Insurance renewal is fast approaching I've taken out a separate policy for my bike(s) as it's more comprehensive.

On FT's suggestion I went with Bikmo but think unfortunately I will be cancelling as there is a little lack of clarity over items classed as 'accessories'.

In short they will provide £600 worth of 'accessories' cover but this includes my wheelset and powermeter with a combined value of 5 times that :/ So in essence my bike value is insured for almost £3,000.00 (well, £2,400.00) more than I would actually receive in the event of a claim.

I'm sure some of you are with different providers so could clarify if this is the same among all of them? or if there is a provider that will pay the full value your bike is insured for?

I would have thought "accessories" would be more along the lines of GPS systems, lights etc rather than wheels & such like.

With my policy the bike is covered seperatly for £2,800 & other items are on the general policy for which there is a £500 limit.
I do have a spare set of wheels, but there only worth a couple of hundred so it's not a problem.

When I took the policy out I listed the parts for the bike as it is non standard & got an aggreed value of what it would cost to replace if it did go walkies!
