Road Cycling

Cracking ride today. Most people were on their summer bike, so inevitably the pace was a bit higher today as everyone was a bit excited!

Hope it doesn't rain tomorrow morning

Riding with an illness is never fun.
Woke up with a stinking cold today but the weather was so nice I couldn't not go out. So first trip to the hills this year. It was pretty horrible not being able to breathe as usual!

11-32 cassette and medium cage mech - come at me bro)
MTB sprocket crew high five.

Got accused of mechanical doping for having one the other day! Used it a little bit on that climb as I much rather spin than grind... and I was the only one that didn't walk the last ramp :D

Perfect timing this afternoon - left as the rain started, got home as it stopped. Just 27 miles. Very windy, so lots of it was hard work, though the last few miles with the wind behind me were quite fast and I got a couple of achievements.

Went out on the CX bike along some mud trails today. Really fun but absolutely knackering compared to road riding. Either that or I'm just really unfit as I've hardly cycled this year.

CX riding is similar to MTB riding - flat out for short bursts then nothing, vs, road riding which is steady power most of the time. The up and down power of MTB/CX makes it more tiring.

Should have napped longer this afternoon :o did a surprisingly good job of indexing a 9 speed cassette on an 11 speed shifter though :p Even cleaned it this morning and didn't twig. Should have stayed in bed today!

I spent a couple of hours scratching my head over an indexing prob that turned out to be 8 speed shifters on a 9 speed cassette. Assumption is the mother of all....

It does work surprisingly well though.

Yeah, it's a very different experience to road cycling. Having to use my upper body more to hold the bike steady makes a huge difference too - I can feel it everywhere.

*cough* :p I've made some interesting mistakes whilst tired but that's a new one to me :)

Happens to the best of us. I had a tandem in with a 7 speed grip shift and I fitted a 6 speed freewheel by mistake. In and out test riding it wondering why I had an extra click.

At least it was an easy fix :(

Didn't ride all weekend, was high mileage last week without anything (2 big turbo sessions/races), but also looking forward at this weeks weather:

I'm going to hike my mileage to get some good solid local base/hills done on some after work rides while the weather is good, I'm quite conscious of logging lots of Zwift miles and thinking I'm in some mega pro form only to get toasted by the heavy roads and winds. Only issue I have is my primary light is back with Wiggle and I've not bought a replacement yet! Doh! I've got lights enough to ride up to around 7pm so may just have to hammer out some 10-15 milers. Not sure if I'm going to Zwift race this week, if light levels are my decider then I'd rather be safe inside, than outside riding like some granny at <10mph due to poor lighting. Meh.

I've basically dragged my heels over this choice:
Still struggling with it! If the Race was £10 more and the Strava £10 less I'd already have bought the Strada! :o
Wore Sportful Fiandre Light long sleeve jersey for the first time yesterday morning. Very impressed. It was light rain all the way to work and any rain just beaded on top of the jersey and simply bounced off with a top of the jersey. Found it very breathable too and no sweatbox effect at all. Wore a basic running top underneath and it was perfect for yesterday's weather.
NoRain is fantastic, but just be aware it does 'wear out' as it's just a fabric coating. You can rejuvenate it in future with 'Nikwax'.
I asked for a concealed wheel motor and I think he's put it in backwards.
Hahaha, comment of the week (already)! :D

I've not stayed up to date, and I'm not familiar with Exposure, but I have one of these Fenix BC30 - it's a lot cheaper but its lumen output is comparable and it has the remote, which is handy for any descents when a bit more throw is desirable. It also helps remind oncoming drivers if they've forgotten to dip their headlights.

Where are the burn times for those?

I have an old Lezyne Megadrive. It lasts about 1.5 hours on full blast, lots longer on not full power, but has the advantage of having replaceable rechargeable batteries, of which I have two. So i could go for a 3 hour ride in the dark (more than enough for me) and go full power all the way around. I do dip the beam (lower power) whenever things come the other way, though. Even the lower power mode is enough for seeing where you're going, but full power has more of a car headlight sort of light.

I wish they still made replaceable batteries because they're awesome.

Oooh that looks good. I might have to get one of those, which charger do you use for those batteries?

Decent enough ride yesterday but I'm struggling to get back in the right pacing for long rides. This was on my winter bike so should have been slower than the last time I rode that route but as you can see I ended up with a load of PR's. I was hoping to get back feeling like I could do more (100 mile ride on the horizon) but instead I got home feeling like I couldn't stand up straight :p

Nearly took the nice bike out and was kicking myself until I came across a stretch of muddy track on a section I had to cut out last time due to flooding. Must remember to either modify or bin that route!

Biggest milestone though... first ride of 2017 in shorts :D

Same plan for me as the weather is going to be good this week, get as many miles as I an on the ride to and from work.

Annoyingly sunset isn't quite far enough back for me to be able to get a good 60-90 mins in outdoors without needing to take lights extra clothing. If the weathers pap this weekend I might consider something outdoors midweek. BST will be here before we know it

The last 3 of my outdoor rides have all been in shorts :D two of which with a short sleeve summer jersey & no warmers!

Sunset is just after 6, but it'll be light for a bit after that. I finish at 4:30. Nice 25 miler planned this afternoon with one hill climb.

Roll on the 25th!!
