Road Cycling

Or complete the climb, leave them at the top, descend, ascend with newfound lightness at warp speed, collect bidons, carry on journey. Disregard the impact of extra training stress. :p

Or just leave them at the bottom of the climb and loop round later on to collect them?...

I hate climbing - it's the mountain biker in me probably - I live for the descents, I'm totally the wrong weight - really I need to put on about 15 kilos.
I prefer the climbs when I go mountain biking with mates as I have the power to beat them... I don't have the technical skill to keep up on descents :D

Chuck your water bottle at a child just before the climb starts.
I'm going to throw my bottle at any badger I see from now on - climb or not!

It will also save you lots of money because you will not need to keep buying new bottles.
But the only problem is... I spend the money I've saved on cakes, making me even heavier and the problem worse. Doh.

To be honest I totally hate the taste of tap water, I always have. I grew up on a farm where we had our own borehole and although the water was very hard (sometimes milky coloured!) it tasted like mineral water. Now whenever I taste tap water all I can taste is the chemicals within it, same with some bottled water, so much so during hot rides in the summer I'll actually have a very diluted bottle with orange squash in alongside a tabbed bottle. I also seem to cramp more after riding if I don't tab my water but that could be all in my mind ;)

I tie helium balloons to the bike for more lift on the climbs :p

I always wondered where the name came from... Helium filled frame you say...? Framedoping ;)

I'm pretty fearless on the downhill - it doesn't worry me getting the bike low down or pedalling through bends - i seem to just know where the pedal strike limit is.

Just a shame I'm allergic to hills, climbing bores me, I just want it over with. Horrible form of torture. :p

First proper ride tonight. Really enjoyed it, roads were quiet which helped as I'm still not feeling confident on the bike.

Was a little difficult especially on the gradients, even if they were small but I'm pleased I managed over 11 miles and didn't feel too bad.

I still have no clue with gears though and struggling to get to grips with it, was probably in the same gear for 90% of the ride but I'll get used to it. Sure BennyC will help me on Monday

About time someone developed a decent Garmin mount for standard stems & bars.
The Canyon mount is a showcase for integration of a bike computer to the bike.

I woke up this morning to find that someone has bought the winter bike I'm selling on eBay. At 3:43am. Then sent me this message:

Hey man. Just wanted to let you know how crazily exited I am for this bike. I have been an avid mountain biker all my life, but with sh**ty weather I decided to finally buy a proper road bike. I just wanted to let you know that your bike will be extremely well loved. I still have my bike I bought about 7 years ago as my main bike, and I really can't see myself letting go of it anytime soon. Feel free to message when you post or if there are any problems with it. This is one of my biggest (drunk) purchases I have ever made so I am so ******* excited.

Cheers
Pete

I think maybe I'll wait until the hangover clears before I arrange a courier, just in case...

I once sold an old mountain bike of mine to a fella who got that excited about it - I was still getting updates about how much he loved it 2 months later

I may have had a few too many but no need to post it on the internet :P

70 miles today, was tougher than I expected with the wind. Oh, and new wheels!

two questions though.

1) two rides ago I swapped my stem to one that is 10mm shorter and more 'slammed' (I also put it lower by removing a few spacers). For the two rides ive been one since, I've got cramp in both thighs about 40 miles in. Does this suggest I need to push my seat back a bit? Back to back cramp suggests bike position to me rather than fluid/salt.

2) Has RideWithGPS removed the 'write to garmin' function? I cant seem to find it anymore and getting rides uploaded to my 800 used to be very intuitive.

I think you have to pay to get ridewithgps to write directly to a garmin these days. I download the raw tcx then feed it into bikehike to add the turns and then write that to the garmin from there.
