Road Cycling

Lol no, I do have a big 'IDIOTS' folder on my NAS box though...! One day I'll do a compilation! Or maybe just name&shame on Youtube. I have high hopes of a huge road safety initiative asking for footage of poor driving and I can upload around 60GB to them lol ;)

So you only save the good stuff! I guess it has become a routine for you now, recording everything and saving what is needed. Which mount do you use?

The frameset costs about £3500 alone. I looked a while back as I was considering an Italian build.
"Italian" frames are crazy expensive. I think I'm going to go for Dedacciai in a couple of years as they're pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things.

It does.

One thing to note is that each code works once, literally only once. Once you've input it, you have to complete the transaction there and then as the code won't work again.

Nice one cheers, I'll get myself signed up to BC then, need to for racing next month!

I managed to pick the one time of day that it lashed it down today to go out. Got soaked for about 5 mins, then dried off quickly doing a few hill repeats on the tt bike...

Think I'll be having a few more recovery rides as the girlfriend has got herself a bike this week. Somehow persuaded her to get a Norco Threshold A 105 on bike to work. Absolutely cracking bike, great spec and she seemed to get on with it alright on the canal paths for her first ride yesterday. Even mastered the cleats with 2 emergency stops not resulting in her falling on her arse... :D

Xdcx, you'll also be pleased to know she only wears Rapha... :D:D

He's probably had a stroke after seeing J A Flecha on disc brake bike and wearing a lovely shade of peach Rapha jersey on the Giro coverage.

I need to convert a 9mm thru axle to QR, but having trouble finding anything. Loads of 15 or 22mm to QR. I'm new to the thru axle world, is 9mm rare?

I usually hang out in the mtb thread, but have been doing more road miles lately, mainly due to entering a couple of local duathlon events.

I've just upgraded from my 2010 Allez to a new Cube Attain GTC Pro Disc ... and wow! I can't get over how much more comfortable the Attain is to ride, I used to dodge every single imperfection and pebble on the road, but this thing just seems to make everything feel so smooth.

Is this simply down to the carbon frame? My Allez had a carbon fork only, I'd of upgraded sooner if I'd of realised the comfort on offer.

Also, it's great having brakes that stop :D

It is a cracking bike, isn't it! Only had mine 10 days and I still can't get over how comfortable that high front end is for my back, yet the Cube goes like a rocket even when just holding around the hoods. The carbon frame is no doubt helping too, but I have also been positively surprised at the supplied Continental Grandsport Race tyres. While they were nice bikes at the time of purchase, I think this Cube knocks spots off my ~1996 Principia RSL and 2006 Felt F5C and what's more, I only paid £900 for it!

Absolutely, I paid the same and it seems an utter bargain so far, especially compared to anything else on my short list.

That's a fair point regarding the tyres, my Allez had some 23mm Vittoria Rubino, so I bet there's some compliance gained there with the Conti's in 25.

I got my new bike out on some offroad trails this morning. 16 miles at like 11mph :p Observations:

1) Rolling resistance is real. Offroad tyres suck on the road. They're bouncy and comfy but appallingly slow. Not bad offroad.
2) Road gearing doesn't quite suit going offroad. I ended up in the small ring most of the time. I now understand why CX rings are 46/36.
3) The SRAM Apex rear mech goes KERTWANG very noisily compared to the Shimano mechs I have experience of.
4) SRAM upshifting on the rear mech is fine. SRAM downshifting is less fine. Much harder to hit an exact downshift and it ends up between things and then jumps back and forth.
5) SRAM upshifting on the front mech feels like hard work, though this may be down to poor setup on my part.
6) Riding offroad requires a lot of concentration and balance over uneven surfaces.
7) It's quite fun, but in a very different, very slow sort of way.

Planned some gentle (for me) miles/climbs with Steedie today but gastrointestinal 'instability' on his part called that off and truth be told I could do with the rest. I did however have the SJCAM 4000 that I bought last September to use in Majorca, but then never did, ready to go.

Last year I tried using a clip on the HRM strap and an open jersey but ended up just filming my top tube. The bar mount fits nicely on the stem putting the unit nice & close to the headtube but my cables obstruct view and also foul when turned. Alas amongst the accessories is an extension & rotation piece which means it can attach in the same orientation as an outfront mount

Will take it out this week weather permitting and have a play with the Virb software too.

Been thinking about getting one of those SJCAM 4000's.

Be interested to see how well it works on the bike, if the footage is not too shaky etc.

Footage quality is fine, plenty of demo's on Youtube. Can't recall the audio with wind noise but should think there are plenty of work arounds. Can't really knock them for £60~

Haven't posted in a while but been following the vulpine drama this weekend and thought some people might be interested as none of the cycling press are doing any decent reporting on it

Basically... 'We raised a million on crowdfunding last year so were easily able to justify our vastly overpriced products without actually requiring sales profits from them. We got so greedy that when crowdfunding came up short prior to the 2017 range being produced we were unable to cover manufacturing costs, missing deadlines and coming up short of actual physical product to sell. We have no money left as we all got so greedy so we're taking the easy option of going into administration rather than paying our manufacturers. '

Over marketed, over priced, over hyped, below average, untested products. Good riddance! Nick Hussay should be ashamed and brought to account for the stake/shareholders.

Oh it's much worse. The vulpine administration post on road.cc has a very interesting comments thread (page 3 onwards):
http://road.cc/content/news/222147-cycle-clothing-brand-vulpine-insolvent-and-enters-administration

One snippet:
1. In 2016 the marketing spend was 12% less in £ than 2015
2. Sales plummeted by over 30% yoy
3. Losses were almost £800k
4. Development costs were just £20k for a company priding itself on innovation.

One area of growth does stand out. A 100% rise in salaries to over £500k. Shared between 7 employees if one takes the 2016 prospectus figure. Oh and yes, remember this is a start up in its 4th year of trading.

Note one month before administration that Mr & Mrs Hussey spent £10K on bespoke bikes for themselves as part of a collaboration:

ETA: Oh wow, it's even worse:
http://fantasyequitycrowdfunding.bl...we-were-wrong-vulpine-just-got-lot-worse.html

Sunday Times have at least picked this up while all the cycling media have ignored it.
