Road Cycling

Ordered 2 wheel/hub bearings from Rulla yesterday afternoon around 4pm. £9 including postage.

Arrived in this mornings post first class. Awesome service and the last headset ones I used from them have been superb. Cheap as chips! They even sent a discount code for 5% off my next order :D

Heal up well - good advice so far on here and good luck with getting everything sorted.

On the same note - 6 of us out today, me on the front and a stupid women in a Range Rover pulled out in front of us from a side road. Thankfully we all managed to avoid each other and the car in time but it was bloody close.

Her comment out of the window was "sorry - didn't see you" - I pointed out she might need an eye test then considering what I was wearing

People don't see because they don't take the time to look. The A pillars (the bits either side of the windscreen) are huge these days and hide all manner of things. I'm aware of it when I'm about to pass a junction where I can see a car rolling up to the line, and sometimes I'm approaching at the right speed that at no point can I actually see the driver's face, and if I can't see their face then chances are they can't see me, or would need to really be paying attention to see me. A lot of drivers also approach junctions these days on the assumption that they'll be able to sail through, unless by exception they have to stop, rather than vice versa. These two issues combined mean that people are rolling right through junctions without ever pausing to take the time to look around the A pillar.

Still the brightest Rapha jersey I've ever seen :p

Had a driver pull out on me to join traffic on the other side of the road. He said "Why are you cycling so fast?". I responded with "Why didn't you pull out on the van in front of me that was doing the same speed?".

"Why are you so cycling so fast?" is such a bizarre question.

Because I can.

Because otherwise the people behind me would moan.

What's it to you, dumbass...

I must have been destined to get knocked off on that day. On my way out on my ride in about the same location, just the next junction along, an old lady pulled out on me. She did manage to stop, I was going slower at this point as it was a slight uphill section.

I then though, gaaa, I wish I used my camera more for situations just like this. I have the original Garmin Virb. Its a bit bulky and I only really use it for "special" rides. Majorca for example.

Anyone use a camera for every ride?

So much want.

Pretty sure I recall seeing something similar at one of the Tours from last year on a GCN video...
HUHNNNGGGH! Gorgeous!

Maybe a Wilier should be on my short list of aero frames... :o

Have to agree about this, have noticed an increase in it even over the relatively few years I've been cycling (4? 5?). I've taken to moving out more and more, there's times I'll even dab my brakes to kill off some speed until I've seen them specifically look at me! Still doesn't stop them pulling out though!

"Why are you cycling so fast?"
"Why are you driving like a moron?"

Virb. EVERY ride. That's 260 rides so far this year...

Do you have the original? I seem to remember you purchasing yours around the same time as me.

You don't save all of the footage do you? :p
Lol no, I do have a big 'IDIOTS' folder on my NAS box though...! One day I'll do a compilation! Or maybe just name&shame on Youtube. I have high hopes of a huge road safety initiative asking for footage of poor driving and I can upload around 60GB to them lol ;)

Never buy sintered. I use race but semi is fine.
Ok thanks! Ordered! Only a matter of time until I need some & my front made a weird noise earlier - think it's just not used to the rain... Yet!

I'm heading out with the ELY guys tomorrow now the forecast being better than planned! 9.30 start also suits me slightly better than the usual 9am.

Speaking as someone just getting started with discs, what's wrong with sintered? Do they obliterate the discs?

The braking power is more reliable - reliably bad. They're also more prone to noise (and I'd say disc brakes don't need any help with that). They can cause rotors to wear quicker but that's not really a concern imo. Semi-metallics last for ages and have better bite. Race matrix in theory are even better than semi-metallics (at least UberBike branded ones) but I have never noticed a difference between the two.

Very important but it doesn't take long to bed them in. Just ride up and down the road and do a few intervals of accelerate, brake hard, repeat. You'll have them up to 90% power in about 5 hard brakes at most.
