Road Cycling

I've never had issues with CRC in terms of them having what they claim to have and sending it out quickly. It does feel that since the merger that Wiggle are trying to kill the CRC brand though.

Do others lose track of time after coming back off rides, looking at Strava details of the ride while recovering?

Apparently, just over two hours have passed since my early visit to true cat4 country, up Beacon and Old Winchester Hills!

Of the three cat4 climbs, Sailor's Lane to Beacon Hill seemed the easiest, but that might have been partly because it was the first I attempted (along with I think it had a fairly steady gradient).
Hayden Lane was steep early on, but then settled down to a mostly steady gradient, was quite surprised that I found a small kick to sprint past the Old Winchester Hill car park when it flattened out and then double-back to have a brief look around. Stunning views from up there, even I couldn't help but take a few snaps on the tablet (saw a poor dead badger on the road too, possibly the first wild one I've ever seen)!
After having a nice sit down on a bench, eating a sandwich and enjoying the view, I then tried Beacon Hill via The White Way (I actually messed up my ride through Exton and missed the start of cat4 segments I knew of beforehand). Pretty nasty mid-section, didn't help that my legs were getting tired despite the break on the bench, could really feel the extra bit of gradient!

I can't believe I lived in Southampton for ~25 years nearly and today was the first time I ever been up that way... Must start riding up there regularly on the road bike!

Not to mention, the South Downs Way looks perfect for the fatbike, even though it would be more of a slog getting up there.

Road up some mountain called Mount Ventoux yesterday: https://www.strava.com/activities/1036442692
Great ride, well done Chris! Doing it again from the other side? ;)

Good work doing vonteux.
 ;)

Decided to treat myself to an eTap gear set from CRC (i.e. shifters/derailleurs only). Ordered on Saturday with next day delivery. It turned up a day late yesterday and there are no derailleurs in the box and it's touch and go whether I will get a replacement any time soon as they're currently out of stock in the warehouse. :(

First time I've ever bought a new groupset, you get better service buying on the BikeRadar classifieds.
WTF! Was the box sealed? I'd be sending the whole lot back and ordering elsewhere!

It was sealed but on closer inspection the box had been resealed with clear packing tape (originally it was packaged with SRAM tape). I'm away from very early on Saturday so not hopeful of getting replacements by tomorrow. If their warranty team faff around then I will just request a refund and go elsewhere on principle, not impressed at all so far.

If anything like Wiggle they'll probably send out a new pair with a courtesy "you don't need to send the old one back straight away" (they'll make a big deal of this) and then they'll send it standard shipping. Good luck :/

Yeah sounds about right. Why is it that the more you spend on anything the worse the service gets?

Now they want me to send pictures of the box itself and the stuff I actually have before doing anything. That is all obviously at home while I'm at work. I'm more than happy to do it but not sure that it proves anything, they've already made me declare I haven't received the items (presumably so they're covered in the event of fraud).

Never had issues, ordered new shoes last Thursday night and they turned up Saturday morning, don't use them often but occasionally they come out as best price before/after BC discount so no brainer to use them.

"Easing back in". :p

With 1,100w to get back up to speed after a climb, think there might be some missed sarcasm there ;)

Nice speed for the distance & elevation.

Popped my imperial cherry with something similar last year and haven't ridden 100m since yet thinking about it! Weather looking fab this weekend, temptation...rising...

Fun times on the commute home today, putting the hammer down for some silly commuter racing against some noob on a hybrid with a rucksack. He jumped a set of lights ahead of me so I caught him and dropped him, then he did it again and managed to put a good few hundred yards between us while I waited like a good boy. I battered it for a mile or so and dropped him again, like a boss. It's gotta be done.

I took 62 hard drives and two server UPS systems home in my rucksack today, used the wife's hybrid as I had a mechanical on my road bike plus ive just had double knee surgery and a triple heart bypass last weekend so I need to take it easy.

I'm sure someone even tried to race me!

:D

I'm guessing you've also just had eye surgery and couldn't see the lights clearly ;)

Guys I'm having alittle trouble shifting back up to my larger chain ring. Im running a 50/34t up front and no idea in the rear.

I had my bike serviced in the autumn last year and they replaced the chain but mentioned my front rings needed replacing soon.

Is it not jumping up correctly a sign its due a change?

I currently have fsa super road 110 bcd rings up front.

Any suggestions on what I should go with next?

It not shifting is probably a sign of an overly tight high limit screw or a lack of cable tension.

How old are your current rings? Chainrings should last for yonks.

The bike is a 2010 and I bought it used so maybe 7 years old. Really not sure.

When I was trying to change up it felt like there was plenty of pressure on the chain against the side of the larger ring but it was just grinding against it rather than jumping up.
