Road Cycling

There's a kinda good looking girl on an even better looking bike (Bianchi!) I've encountered a couple of times when commuting, usually coming the other way on a cycle path and we'd progressed all the way from nod to 'hi'. Saw her riding the other way this morning before catching up with her on the road on my way back at lunch. Several cars around so hung back for a while (nice easy pace rather than my usual lunchtime hammering it!), when it was quieter had a quick natter (about the weather of course!) before riding on (will admit to nailing it slightly). Seems very pleasant and even shouted 'have a great afternoon' after me. 10/10. Would ride with again. Although was slightly mesmerised by a castelli logo & her low cadence for a few seconds xD
Isn't your mrs pregnant? Eyes front, young man!

Mech looks a bit high in that picture, but it might just be the angle. Can you post a picture of the rings and front mech with the mech in the little ring position? The outer plate of the mech cage should only be a millimetre or so above the big ring in that position.

But yeah, the teeth look fine. I say it's cable tension or limit screw.

Do you have a stand you can put the bike on? Or at least a way to raise the back wheel off the ground and leave both hands free? Even if it means borrowing a second pair of hands to lift the back end... Put it in the small ring. Turn the pedals and pull the cable away from the downtube by hand. If it shifts up easily it's cable tension. If it doesn't it's the limit screw.

I fixed my noise problem.

Took the headset apart, cleaned the bearings and greased everything back up, bolts and all. I don't think whoever put the bike together put any grease on at all, there wasn't much in the way of grease to clean off at all.

But having greased it all up properly, the steering and front end feels so much nicer. Almost feels like a new bike. Probably placebo but I'm glad I did it, for someone who's not very hands on at all and terrible at all things DIY, I felt pretty pleased with myself doing that

Like buses.... Punctures are. Not had 1 for ages and now I'm walking to be picked up. 3 this morning first on front hitting a hole. Second in the rear and third also in the rear. All within a mile or so... Oh well better to get them out the way than be stranded in France in 2 weeks.

Off for a bit of a cycle on the CX bike this morning. Should be fun.

However, I'm increasingly getting a bit annoyed with my PX Bish Bash Bosh frameset for my road bike. It's just really...tank-y. Are there any decent road-specific framesets with thru axles and discs yet? Di2 internal routing also preferred. I could probably give up the mudguard mount side of things based on how much positive feedback the new Cruc Road Racer Mk3s are getting... Maybe...

edit: Actually, wouldn't mind moving to flat-mount brakes too though it's far from a deal-"braker" (hoho).

I don't know if you could do Di2 internal routing, but my Cube Attain GTC Pro Disc meets your other requirements (it has internal 105 gear and hydraulic cables).

Planning to return to cat4 country early tomorrow before the sun gets too warm, Beacon> Old Winchester> Butser >Droxford Road> Wheely Down ... I might well have no legs left heading back for home!

Nice suggestion, thanks :) Looks like they have frames on bike-discount.de too. Hmmmmm....

You won't have suddenly 'lost' all of the technique so things won't be as bad as you expect! :)

Ouch! From cycling? Shoe rub?

Nah, I was camping last weekend and pretty much spent 30 hours on my feet in my Gore Tex boots. I think that caused the blister, couldn't put any power through the pedal if I went out.

I went out last night for a reasonably (for me) quick twenty. Planning a longer route tomorrow to make up for the lack of miles earlier in the week

I found an energy bar i enjoy eating !

I bought some Cliff bars to take with me to walk up Snowdon, and they are nice !

on other news, looks like my cycling career is now over, coming to the end of these tablets and no change still, so all my stuff will be going up for sale sometime, hopefully not yet, but i dunno :(

Cliff bars are great, I especially like the peanut butter ones. Sorry to hear about you not being able to ride your bike anymore :(

i tried power bars and high 5 ones, not very nice in comparison !

Just been to a lovely pub called the ferry tavern in Warrington on the banks of the Mersey. Couldn't believe how many e bikes came past. Bigger trend than I had thought.

Got myself a seized crown race. Got a feeling I just need to be patient with it but any pro-tips short of dropping it in to the LBS next week to make use of the proper tool? Got an afternoon to kill tomorrow and around 1-2mm gap to play with currently. Thinking to very carefully try and pry it up evenly with a dull knife from either side after having used something like GT-85/WD-40 to penetrate for a while.

Workstand will come in handy tomorrow :o

Silver lining, still rideable and spotted a slow flat from this afternoons ride so took care of that at least. First one this year, 3,700m.

I occasionally overtake one on my commutes. I saw one on the towpath this evening as well while out on my cx bike.

I rode past some kid who shouted "high five!" at me as I approached, so I stuck my hand out, job done. Unfortunately I couldn't similarly impress some other lad who yelled at me to do a "wheeler" because I don't have the skills!

Pro tips? I've never had to deal with it myself, but you could try heating it somehow, like with a hairdryer or something.

You could also try putting the fork upside down with the steerer on some soft wood, then using a screwdriver or chisel and a hammer to bash it off, alternating sides.

If it comes to doing things destructively, get a hacksaw blade and something to hold it with or stick it in, then saw the thing off.
