Road Cycling

Does anyone want a pair of taster session vouchers for the velodrome in Manchester? They were given to me as a present but I've never got round to going as I'm socially incapable. They expire late December. Free to anyone who wants them.

Wouldn't say no but if someone else wants them give them to them :)

There he goes again... :p
Don't! You're tempting me into unmuting him! :o

This forum is well known for having a few people who are a bit.... special.
omghi2u :D

Car again for me today (dentists). My mileage is going to suck again this week... Especially as the weather forecast for saturday is pretty miserable and I'm considering skipping the group ride if it is... Also woke up yesterday with a trapped nerve in my neck (which still isn't sorted *violins*) so didn't go on the turbo as planned. I need to tonight and over the weekend otherwise I'm going to really struggle to continue any summer fitness & form! :o

Not sure about pure time on use but you should be able to cover about 1000 miles or so, so for me I would need to charge it 3 times a year 4 at most.
Yea, it's pretty damn good! Doesn't take long to charge either. I'm going to charge it again today as I only gave it 15 mins yesterday but got home more than fine and back in today. I have a cable at work and just plug it in at my desk ha - Looking forward to the dfly sensor, so I can check charge on my garmin.

Ride in was 21c this morning, but SO WINDY!! Like, crazy. I'm on the 404s still and crosswinds had me leaning into the wind so I could stay on the bike. Now it's suddenly dropped to 12c and ******* down. Beaut.

Anyway, I forgot my Di2 was running low, so now have 20 mins to get some charge in her before riding home. Bugger.

Could be worse, you could be my friend who flew out to do Ironman 70.3 in Chatanooga last weekend, swam a great leg, got to his bike and his Di2 although fully charged the night before was dead. Ran back to his hotel got his charger, but the system was died, managed to borrow a bike and finish in time limit though, but he was hoping to qualify for worlds like he did a couple of years ago!

No knee warmers this morning, theres still a bit of heat in the air, just the wind at the moment is ripping it away, so will have to dig out some warmer clothes I think for the next week or two.

Does anyone know how the calorie calculation works on strava when changing bikes? I don't ever use it, but seems to vary massively, with my Pinnacle recording 239, Ridley 153, Felt 149, Cannondale 153 and Scott 239 also. Is it literally just on the record weight of your bike?

What's the weight difference between them? I'd look at the estimated power output (or actual if you have a PM, presumably not though) and times the average (not the weighted average) by 3.6. Rather than the calorie projection.

On a similar topic I'm trying to find a study or explanation to back up whether power output is a complete absolute or whether heart-rate variance carries any bearing on calorie expenditure. My logic is that when on the extensions on my TT bike my HR is higher and I am less efficient so for the same given power as my roadie my HR is higher. Whilst no extra energy (watts) are being produced the load on my CV system and bodies attempts to cool are higher which I should think carries some extra caloric burden?...

I'm not using any more energy but I'm less efficient which must indicate a marginally higher burn?

Was just switching bikes on the same commute, so 0 power, if I use the power meter its the same no matter what bike I use.

I'd definitely be interested in this, as a power meter will be used for probaly 80% of my riding, with 10% of my commutes not accounted for but they're like 3-5 miles each way at a low effort, and the other 10% for CX racing/mtb riding, so would be good to help me out with this 20% of anomaly and if I need to make any variances for when I train with power meter and aiming to drop weight such as pre season when I'm doing longer lower intensity rides.

I don't know how Strava works things out, but what I do, rightly or wrongly is...

Give Strava my own weight in boxers (~74Kg, 164lbs)
Give estimated weight of my road bike including MAMIL kit; shoes; 750ml fluid; emergency kit (~25lbs)
Give estimated weight of my fatbike it various wheelset guises, including work clothes; shoes; emergency kit (~31.5lbs in 29er wheel mode)

But our analogue bathroom scales give readings that can vary by ~2-4lbs, if you look at them in the wrong tone of voice.;)

But every now and again, I might mix up what bits I'm taking out on which bike, which I haven't created a "gear" profile for. Like last Saturday for example, http://www.strava.com/activities/1175675462 , trying my first hand at some sort of hill reps training on the 29er fatbike wearing my MAMIL kit; fitting the Time ATAC pedals and wearing the chunky SHM121G shoes; no emergency kit as very local; a 500ml water bottle tucked in jersey pocket to reduce aero drag. ;)
Which as a guess would have made the fatbike ~2 lighter than the standard gear profile.

While last night I did a shorter, more circular route on the road bike, with no fluid but wearing my Altura Peleton Transformer jacket. http://www.strava.com/activities/1182571614

1408 vs 430 Calories estimate for Stravistix, 1263kJ vs 386kJ in Strava, their relative values seem reasonable ballpark to me.
