Blimey Shamrock, I thought I was bad, but could cope with this morning, not sure how cold it was, but air just doesnt hold the heat this week, feeling it in the mornings.

I wish there was a solution, besides moving to Majorca! In the past I've tried Li-ion heated gloves which sucked. I may just bulk buy those disposable hand warmer things or perhaps I'll try the full Rapha glove system of merino liner > deep winter glove > lobster overmitten. Problem is at that point you can barely shift or brake due to poor dexterity!:o

Anybody want to take one for the team and try out Aldi's rear light/camera? Apparently a Fly6 clone.

I spotted that... will be very tempted and keep the receipt handy if I do. I almost bought a Fly6 the other week but I was a bit put off by the fact there's no replaceable battery and obviously it's going to degrade over time to the point you just throw away the whole unit? At £40 I wouldn't be too fussed.

You'll find that with most systems!

As with any winter clothing - protecting yourself from the wind is the biggest concern. If you can keep the cold wind out and the body heat in, you should be somewhere near sorted! My other half suffers a little and doesn't ride at any real tempo. She struggled with most cycling gloves (was not generating any heat from her hands) but tried some Burton leather snowboarding gloves she had and they worked superbly! Waterproof, wind resistant and enough insulation. They'd probably be better for lever 'feel' than most of the cycling specific as the insulation although much thicker, was softer. If you've got some, might be worth trying!

My Sportful Sotto Zero are good, but I should've got the Fiandre as they have more rain protection. Although mine did struggle with temps towards -10 windchill, I expect the Fiandre would too!

Could be worth a try, at least Aldi warranties and returns are superb. I'm not going to bother with anything electronic from them again though. I tried a HRM a few years back and it's signal was so bizarre that it killed any WiFi/ANT signals around and would even turn off our old TV when I walked in the room! :o
What are you saying!? :p
It's fine, you're not racing so the figure only really matters for you! You'll train with it, beat it and improve on it, as that's all it is - a number! :D

Keep up the good work!

A note to all those just getting into turbo training/zwift etc, prepare for your FTP test - do some 'sweetspot' sessions to get yourself in the right mindset for pushing yourself for 20 minutes. Intervals and even road riding are not really the same thing, it's more similar to a TT or alpine climb. Get your drinks and distractions ready. And your pain face! Most of all - don't dread it! That comes afterwards when it's time to check improvement by doing another! ;)

FTP tests themselves are good training, there's not many training plans you ride at threshold for 20 minutes...!

Interesting.

I use panniers on a Friday when I'm taking clean clothes in for the coming week. The rest of the week I use a little bag that sits on top of my rack as all I'm taking in is my lunch. I definitely notice the difference in air resistance.

I imagine a rucksack would be better in terms of air resistance, but I absolutely hate riding with a rucksack.

Specialized Win Tunnel tested rack-top bag vs pannier too. Racktop bag well faster.

edit: rucksack is in there too. But no one likes a rucksack

It'll be one of the first things I do, I do like a bit of geek data.

Last weekend I did a 9 mile track race and came 2nd, the guy in 4th had his Garmin running and it showed 21.5mph average for the 9 miles.

20 mins FTP test should be a piece of urine!

Presumably the test is done in Zwift, or are you using software that came with your turbos?

Doesn't matter how you do it providing you do it hard and record the data! :D

All of my turbo riding is within Zwift these days, although that's mostly for convenience (and unlocks).

That's a little under 3 minutes riding though, 20 minutes is a bit different! I literally felt sick after my most recent test.

21.5 for 9 miles isn't actually that quick either, so not sure I get your post.

Pah! Age is irrelevant!

But seriously, we have someone in our club you could literally pass for my grand dad (and I'm 30!) and he can whip my ass if he wants to, and I'd say I'm relatively strong. (last FTP 338W)

Yeah... my Nebula clone failed a few weeks after my real Nebula did too :( (fake Nebula had far less use overall)

No, it shouldn't.

If you can ride 'comfortably' at Threshold for 20 minutes and aren't anywhere near your max HR come the end or 10/10 for RPE then you aren't riding hard enough. You can't use speed to reliably measure intensity because it's subject to too many variables, even more so when in a bunch.

It's like people saying they do sets of 5 consecutive reps with their 1 rep max in the gym, well then...
