perhaps I'll try the full Rapha glove system of merino liner > deep winter glove > lobster overmitten. Problem is at that point you can barely shift or brake due to poor dexterity!
You'll find that with most systems!
As with any winter clothing - protecting yourself from the wind is the biggest concern. If you can keep the cold wind out and the body heat in, you should be somewhere near sorted! My other half suffers a little and doesn't ride at any real tempo. She struggled with most cycling gloves (was not generating any heat from her hands) but tried some
Burton leather snowboarding gloves she had and they worked superbly! Waterproof, wind resistant and enough insulation. They'd probably be better for lever 'feel' than most of the cycling specific as the insulation although much thicker, was softer. If you've got some, might be worth trying!
My
Sportful Sotto Zero are good, but I should've got the
Fiandre as they have more rain protection. Although mine did struggle with temps towards -10 windchill, I expect the Fiandre would too!
I spotted that... will be very tempted and keep the receipt handy if I do. I almost bought a Fly6 the other week but I was a bit put off by the fact there's no replaceable battery and obviously it's going to degrade over time to the point you just throw away the whole unit? At £40 I wouldn't be too fussed.
Could be worth a try, at least Aldi warranties and returns are superb. I'm not going to bother with anything electronic from them again though. I tried a HRM a few years back and it's signal was so bizarre that it killed any WiFi/ANT signals around and would even turn off our old TV when I walked in the room!
What are you saying!?
It's fine, you're not racing so the figure only really matters for you! You'll train with it, beat it and improve on it, as that's all it is - a number!
Keep up the good work!
A note to all those just getting into turbo training/zwift etc, prepare for your FTP test - do some 'sweetspot' sessions to get yourself in the right mindset for pushing yourself for 20 minutes. Intervals and even road riding are not really the same thing, it's more similar to a TT or alpine climb. Get your drinks and distractions ready. And your pain face! Most of all - don't dread it! That comes afterwards when it's time to check improvement by doing another!
FTP tests themselves are good training, there's not many training plans you ride at threshold for 20 minutes...!
