Good ride on saturday, only 5 of us out and all regulars so we pushed it a little. As it could be my last group ride this year
I did a big turn on the front, but had to ease up and wait a couple of times. I'd normally rest after a big turn but kept myself at the front or second wheel,
a chase back on after a nature break and then a
mini chaingang of 3 of us towards Peterchurch to get the average speed up on a good bit of downhill/road (before the rougher stuff back towards town) to really stretch my legs.
Awesome ride, even with a couple of pointless close passes. One of them a couple of miles before town from an old Range Rover. We caught him up in traffic and I sat by his window asking if he'd maybe share the road next time, guy utterly ignored me (after staring in his mirror as I drew alongside). Frustrated me enough that I gave his wing a good thump as I rode off... And now have a sore knuckle!
3mins in I was as chilled as Mikel Landa - 3mins to go I was looking like Fabio Aru
Tony Martin painface or gtfo
Great video, just goes to show it can happen to us all!
I love the glare he gives the TV camera, yet he's modest enough not to wave it away, almost saying 'yes, I bonk too!'.
I may have cranked up the power a bit towards the end because I still had a bit in the tank.
Good work so far merlin/Julian!
You'll usually find 'newcomers mess up the pacing' is aimed at people who are not used to riding that hard for long enough periods so they overcook it and have to bail out. The fact you undercooked it hints you have got the stamina and fitness to push harder for it. Doing longer 2-3 hour rides (and your track work) you'll be surprised how hard you can push and still maintain solid power afterwards!
I usually ride the first 5 too hard, easing to threshold and then feel like I'm just hanging on for the last 10 (not quite recovering, but not quite blowing up), yet I'll still be able to empty the tank for the end.
