Road Cycling

Still look orange to me tbh :P

Still don't have my new shoes through. Bike discount have called the courier again and apparently "I should have them soon..." well thanks.
Frame is on it's way though, so that'll hopefully turn up any day other than weds when my wife is working from home :D haha I just ordered a cheap Chinese carbon cockpit from eBay too. (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263239560546) I wasn't looking for it, just popped up on my feed so thought for the money I'll check it out for weight/ quality. Claims a c.300g, will see!

So glad I have my endura winter stuff, it's getting cold this week but only my toes were cold today as I didn't put any overshoes on.

Hmmm out of all of those @Roady I'm thinking the treks or Canyons are best. They just look the nicest. I need to make sure the canyons fit with other frames though. I'll email them.
Sure the Canyon would look ok on the Addicts head tube? Are they not totally different shapes?

It's with Vitality. You sign up, link a fitness tracker or your phone, then get discounts on stuff depending on how much exercise you do! Full disclaimer, the discounts are excellent, but their phone app is shockingly poor.
Nice, shame you can't just link Strava to it! I hardly use my mobile for any kind of tracking these days as my battery is shocking lol

They come with aluminium screws. I think you could save at least 0.2g by switching to titanium bolts!
Just epoxy them on, it'd be cheaper & lighter! ;)

I'm ruined. That wasn't easy :D

In the end I didn't manage to catch a wink of sleep. Just went to sleep at 5pm for a 2 hour nap... woke up at 11pm. Whoops!
Incredible riding mate! How did the format work as looking down the list there's very little consistency with laps/riders? Basically go as quick as you can for as long as you can then whoever's feeling best takes over? You where the most consistent time/lap wise and think you did more laps than any of the others! Strong work! Kudos! :D

Cold here too, one weather app said -1 and the other said +2. Latter was probably closest as the clear skies meant it soon warmed with the sun up. No signs of ice, only frost here, lots of car windows frozen though... I still wrapped up - winter shorts, leg warmers, thermal tights over top & thermal jersey & overshoes. Didn't feel cold! Fully prepared for the dark rides home now though! #clockchange

Good luck with those bars, interested how they turn out. Although to be fair I need lighter wheels & not think other components!

They're a coral pink-ish colour. But for the most park look pink.

They look ace providing you've got the kit to match! It's gotta be predominately white/black and maybe grey. Goes well with yours! #quads

Fml I've totally lost track of cycling at the weekends, it's just not happening. Between the wife being ill and needing me to sort more stuff with the kids, and me being stressed with work and now it getting towards winter, it's just not happening.

I'll have to get things going again next year.

I'm doing some running these days, but it's not the same!

I find weekends really hard with 3 kids, especially when I'm away with work and then the wife wants family time, which I don't blame her for.

Other news, just ordered new saddle and brakes for the new bike. Piece by piece...

I'm losing my ******* patience with Bike Discount. They said that they contacted the courier twice and they were redelivering, but on my tracking it states my shoes are now being returned to sender. I showed them this and they were like "oh yes, it looks like they are... when they are back we will try and sort this out..."

I JUST WANT MY ******* SHOES I PAID FOR!!!! Send some out to me now with another ******* courier you **** womble **** brained **** heads.

The trick is to get the bits delivered to work - build it at work - sneak it home into garage when wife's guard is down. :p

My wife still hasn't noticed there's an un-announced un-discussed un-disclosed track bike on the wall inside the garage, it's been there for 5 months, heck it even gets reasonably regular outings. Not a word has been said. She's in absolutely no danger of looking at it and thinking "hold on a minute - where the **** has that come from"? :D

lol I've had my Flux in the garage now since we moved. She didn't know I had it, or got it. She's been talking to me while riding etc. walked past it loads. Nothing. A pink bike however...

Come join me on Zwift! I've found it invaluable the last month with the baby arrival and am already back up to 100 miles per week (40 commuting) without a huge loss in fitness. If anything, I've 'gained' even with less sleep (lost a little stamina, but also lost 1.5-2kg so it's evened out)! :D

I think that's the hard thing, finding a balance (as Pete said above)...

For me so far (and maybe you Pete?) commuting is an easy way to keep the miles ticking over so fitness doesn't utterly suck (making weekend/club/leisure rides more enjoyable and less brutal!). I've been quite 'lucky' that whenever I wish to ride on the turbo the other half (and mini^me) have been amicable, I know continuing with this is my only real hope of keeping fitness once the autumn/winter weather really arrives and I can't nail my commutes so much.

Typical dailywail exaggerated reporting. Guy doesn't exactly look like he's 'racing' between slip roads like they suggest. Flat bar front sus probably-hybrid lol!

Ouch, that is shockingly bad! Although the couriers fault really not theirs. Which courier is it? Might be worth contacting them and offering to go pick up package when it gets back to local depot...?

Haha, I bet she knows and is just allowing you the benefit of the doubt for now and seeing if you'll come clean! At some point she'll trick you, you'll talk about your bike and she'll ask "which one?" ;)

@Roady challenge corsa latex cx tyres. 15 quid each even over here. Not been stock in the UK since last September... Challenge have been using all they can produce for their tubular and have changed their distributor.
Kinda explains things, what width tyres are you riding for CX?

The 'road' tubes (up to 28mm) are in stock everywhere, can't see much in the description about differences other than width... If you where running 30mm you could probably get away with just running those @£10 a pop on Sigma

Obviously if you're running 32mm+ probably not much use... Two websites I've not used listing the 'Cross' (bigger/wider) ones/sizes in stock, although both more than £15 - 7hundred.co.uk & sprocketscycles

Because on the right build they can look damn cool...

Probably the best looking modern 'dale I've seen. Not usually a fan!

If anyone is interested in how frames and parts may be made in the future, have a read up on additive layer manufacturing. It's already used in F1 and aerospace for weight saving. In a crude way, it's like 3D printing with metal. Will mean that areas of parts that aren't contributing to rigidity can be removed completely, which isn't always possible with conventional machining techniques.

Definitely one for the weight weenies.
Interesting couple of google pages I skimmed through, couldn't see much bike specific, any particular page(s) you'd seen/read on it?

Doze Bontrager wheels.
Have to admit, I'm not a fan. Not sure why, I don't think I quite like the plain looking logo, nor the fairly boring font it's in. It's just quite a long stark white word in a plain font to have 3 times per side of your rim... Needs some colour/flair!

Do like bontrager wheels.

Spun one on the stand one day, it just kept on spinning. Even when it got down to really slow speeds the valve would make it rotate again.

Smoooooth
That's just the bearings though, not the wheel decals! ;)

EDIT: Local guy just got a new red Aeroad. eTap & Enve's. Beautiful (pic on activity)!

Damn, look how good this Tarmac looks in matt black!

So many people getting new bikes! Amazing Black/white Cipollini RBK.

Let's just say there was a little bit of inconsistency in being fair with regard to not taking extra sleep at the expense of other teammates rest ;)

Original plan was hour long stints. I'll get something written up in a few days or so (I guess I can actually post a race report ). Currently still knackered, caught a cold and just sat through 8 hours of training :(

Looks like my avg lap times and one of my teammate's (Sam) were not far off the top 5/top 10 team's avg lap times. Fairly happy with that!

I'm jumping the gun really, the technology is still in an embryonic phase for something like cycling. I'm a manufacturing engineer and my old firm made a complete mountain bike frame using the technique out of a Titanium alloy. They actually "printed" it using one of their own machines.

It's probably a few years away yet, but I'm sure it will be used on smaller parts like stems, seat posts and crank arms first.

What it will do is allow for a lot more creative freedom in things like frame design. So far, to me, many mainstream frames of a particular discipline look very similar (obviously UCI rules play a part in this). Triathlon frames are a different matter as they have more freedom, so can have huge surface area to volume ratios. I personally love innovation and would like to see more variation in design and companies trying something new. We are getting lots of different tech now with things like elastomer suspension on road bikes, but on the whole things are still pretty conservative. Much is touted as being new and fresh but is often the result of a ton of marketing and spin.

My guess is that the first printed components will probably have shorter lifespans, but as always, this will improve with better fusing techniques and possibly different alloys.

Something to keep an eye on though.

Quality over quantity  (guilty as charged...)

DA chainset is enough flair :o ;)

I’m now 5,000 miles up for this year :)

Tipped 7,000 yesterday :) goal is to hit 8k so as long as my knees & ankles don't explode I should be good :p

I only just cracked 3k miles this year, pretty poor compared to almost all of you but then I can only ride at the weekends so its not too bad considering. :o
