Road Cycling

Boo, I lost a rear light on the ride home. I hit a pothole and it flew off and got run over by a bus. Fortunately I had a second one on the go.

Any recommendations for a cheapish flashing rear light that’ll clip onto a saddle bag? Ta.
Cateye do a clip which fits to most of their rear lights, I have this Rapid mini. Ran it on my seatpost, then the clip on my saddlebag and now it's on the rear of my helmet. I guess around 3 years old & still going strong! Rapid micro looks like a slightly cheaper version.

Obviously Wiggles Lifeline range of lights are good price, but I've no experience with them I think FT had a front but anyone tried the rear?

I know you run panniers, do you have a rack? Cateye rack mount.

My rack on my single speed has the Cateye mount, though the plastic on the clip and the light itself are wearing down so it rattles like mad! I’m going to chop a section out of an old inner tube to make a gasket to pad it.

On my other bikes I use lights that go round the seat post or onto the saddle bag.

I’ll take a look at the suggestions...

Reading about the 4iii the other day and in the app you can set an offset so with 52/48=1.083 so thats your offset with the sign depending on right or left leg bias if I remember correctly (disclaimer: I may have remembered it wrong)

All set up - paired instantly with phone and garmin - doddle.

The app lets you increase or decrease the power by a percentage. I've just added a 2% increase on - which is less than my actual imbalance, but close enough.

Going to try to get Zwift to take power figures from my pwm rather than my turbo trainer - hopefully Zwift settings will allow that.

I basically want to get to a position where power figures are ONLY coming from one source (power meter) not two (power meter on the road & turbo trainer when indoors).

That’s the way to go. Power meters are not really comparable to each other, so you just want to be able to compare your results from one source. I’m not sure I’d even trust two identical power meters to give comparable results.

Not that I use a power meter of particularly care... I know exactly how much power I’m putting out at all times, and that is Not Enough W.

You seem to be able to put in 17 mph
average speeds on your rides when you're in the mood so there's obviously some power there!

I use sticky back velcro stuff as padding on various things to stop rattles. Cheapy pound shop stuff I have seems to have waterproof adhesive.

Offset sounds good. My imbalance is similar but I've never worried about it as my 'dual sided' PWM only estimates the L/R balance anyway so without various Wattbike sessions I'd not know for sure. I did find it varied depending on tiredness and type of ride, even with it's estimate. Lowest I saw was 45/55, with most rides being 48/52. I've just not worried, as the variation falls well within the probably 10% variance I'm expecting due to environment/temperature as I don't do a zero offset every time I ride (as that'd be 20 or so a week!).

I think when you use an outside power source with Zwift you can't run EGR mode, also not sure if FE-C still works? Basically, I'm not sure if the trainer will change resistance. I know TR have part of their app which can act as a bridge (power match?) and people used to use it, but unsure if still the best solution.

Depends what you're using them for, if it's exact power numbers then probably not, but exact power numbers are not something I really find myself working with anyway - more like thresholds? When I'm hitting a 300W interval I don't exactly hit 300 watts and hold it regardless of cadence/comfort, I'll try and hit near it relying on ERG to sort resistance (on the trainer) while maintain cadence, when out on the road I'll change gear trying to again maintain cadence/effort. If that's 280W or 320W and comfortable then that's close enough out on the road! Only ERG and a very close cassette can get it exact (with really smooth cadence!).

Consider a 10% variance on 300W is only 30W and well within the difference I've found between different pedal strokes settling in to a cadence/effort.

Me again with new bike chat.

Thinking of this now, not with these wheels as they are the customers.

Wasn't sold on black/white in the photos but it looks better in person. Decent frame, R8000 Ultegra and Praxis chainset.

Managed to get back into commuting even though it's cold enough for the rear wheel to slip coming out of junctions.

It's a great colour but I think you have to be careful with wheels, as the paint is matt the wheels can't be shiny and the yellow Mavic decals on those Cosmics don't go with white/black... :o

Also white = dirty! ;)

One thing I will say, going from the Axis4.0 wheels with (I think) 19mm internal rim width to my Zipp 30 Course (with 21mm internal) the difference in comfort is amazing! Same tyres at 70PSI and they take so much in their stride! Everyone should be running 28+ and 21mm rims for commuting! :D

Or at least when they're heading towards 40 like me! They don't feel slower either! ;)

WBR 24h Zwiftathon tomorrow with a bunch of Pro riders, fund raising and prizes. I'm away in Cardiff watching rugby (probably freezing my nuts off) so can't make it! :(

A better rule is "don't buy Mavics".
Lol what makes you say that? :o

To be fair I'm surprised I've not ended up with a set as really toyed over the Ksyrium Elite before and looked at the Ksyrium Pro Allroad disc this last time... The single yellow/white/blue spoke I really like but equally not a fan of the Cosmic decal/design or the yellow Mavic logo.

Ahhh, ok. Not really heard much about them or seen many people riding them around here.

I'm really enjoying the friendly bees that came living in my Zipp 177D hub! Bzzzzzzzzzzz

EDIT: Have a good weekend all!

There was talk of a sports village with velodrome getting planning in Aylesbury but not sure it's going anywhere

"Awaiting decision"

Quite a big undertaking so will take a while. The town needs to ease congestion so the link road would be welcome. Being birthplace of the Paralympics I should think/hope there's some bias for more sporting facilities :)

Details of a ‘sports village’ which would be built as part of a development near Aylesbury have been revealed.

The plans are contained within a report submitted as part of the Aylesbury Woodlands development, which would include an eastern link road, up to 102,800 sq m of employment land and 1,100 new homes. It would be built to the east of Aylesbury, near Aston Clinton by Buckinghamshire Advantage, which has close links to the county and district councils.

The centrepiece of the sports village is an ‘iconic’ 500m outdoor velodrome encircling a football pitch. There would also be 400m hard surface floodlit BMX track, 150m minimum junior pump track, wheeled sports and ramp demonstration area, alongside up to 12 five-a-side courts/pitches and two full size grass football/rugby pitches.

There would be parking for up to 200 cars and eight coaches. The brief also includes a 150 room hotel and conference facility together with athletes’ accommodation and social facilities.

According to its promoters, the sports village will ‘enhance Aylesbury’s potential to host international multi-sport events and community celebrations befitting a town that is internationally renowned as the Birthplace of the Paralympic movement’.

You can see the plans in full on the AVDC planning website, searching for referencenumber 16/01040/AOP.

Just did a race with Zwift taking power off my power meter rather than the Vortex - worked just like normal - the trainer was changing resistance sweet as a nut. :)

Any experiences with Decathlon Brand / BTWIN cycling clothing, had previously purchased in France, but is UK stuff same quality. ?

They do a nice windproof jacket on Frecnh site €80 and a lower functionality £50 version on the UK site mybike-warm-long-sleeve-cycling-jersey-yellow-black
which mght be a good'ish deal if materials are the same.

I need something to replace an ageing Gore windproof, and there is little in the market until you get to Gabba3/£150, now that vaunted DHB windslam was discontinued.

The kit is the same between France and the UK and tends to represent good value. Most of my Decathlon gear has been replaced over the years but it served me well for a long time when I started out.

Got out for a couple of hours on the Cube today, enjoyed it. We seem to be gelling! Pretty comfortable overall. Came with Conti Grandsport Race 25mm, set them at 95psi front and rear. Have got some 4000S II's in my cupboard that I had on my flatbar and which will be quicker, but happy to leave the Grandsports on for now, they're decent enough.
