Road Cycling

I got some of Decathlon's 500 series shorts when I first started out. I'd say they're still good for up to 1.5 hours.

Gabba2/3 should be available around £70-90 if you look about.

Annoyingly it looks like I've thrown out a few perfectly decent chains over the last couple of years. I've always got to to the point of the 0.75 side of my Lifeline chain tool dropping into place surprisingly quickly. When I bought my latest chain I picked up another chain tool and despite the Lifeline one slipping between the links with room to spare the new one, well... doesn't.

Not the end of the world as my bikes are 8 and 9 speed so chains are cheap but still kind of annoying!

Beasted myself on Zwift yesterday to make up some mileage. ~46 miles in two races.

Just did a race with Zwift taking power off my power meter rather than the Vortex - worked just like normal - the trainer was changing resistance sweet as a nut. :)
Good to hear! :D

I need something to replace an ageing Gore windproof, and there is little in the market until you get to Gabba3/£150, now that vaunted DHB windslam was discontinued.
DHB Windslam still exists, as that's a feature/design of one of their technical fabrics, not the range itself. The DHB Windslam Blade jersey is one of the ones which got discontinued (and is still one of the best jerseys I own), but they replaced it with the DHB ASV Windslam jersey (again discontinued). Unsure what the next iteration will be...

The Sportful R&D Wind jersey is very similar to the ASV windslam, a little more like jackets than jerseys. The Blade being thinner is more like a jersey similar to the Gabba/Perfetto with the Perfetto Light and Fiandre Light being even thinner and lighter versions. The new Sportful R&D Strato is interesting as the design combines elements of all of them so it will be interesting to see what Sportful do with the rest of their range. I've not tried one yet so unsure how the fabric thickness compares to the others.

Do we need to keep an eye on chain tool stretch as well now? :D
A chain stretch tool checking tool? :D

Just follow the Roady method: throw your chain checker away and just replace your chain after every ride
Hahahaha, touché!

Note: It's every 850 rides. :p

Also, with all the practice chaining chains I have, I've never got a chain the wrong side of the jockey wheel guide. Noobs. ;)

Took them a while but Zwift did eventually introduce a 'Powermatch' feature, similar to that of TrainerRoad, for ERG mode with external sources.

Pairing the trainer as controllable and using a power meter as a power source always worked, even before the Powermatch feature, just you'd see a discrepancy between the two.

Gah. I nailed a pothole on the way in this morning and popped my rear tyre. I swear it wasn’t even there yesterday. I tried to hop it, but on the one hand I don’t have the skillz and on the other hand it’s not easy with a rack and a bag!!

So that’ll be a fun 20 minutes before I can set off tonight...

Well I was aimed at by a car last night. I was on my MTB on the road, lit up like a Christmas tree as per, when a car decided to cross my lane and try and take a side road while I was coming. Luckily, I slammed on the brakes, but as it was emergency stop style, I stopped on the spot. Couldn't get my feet out my clips, and was down. It was so close to being a bonnet ornament, and I went mental at the car. Although he probably only spoke German and had no idea what I was on about anyway. Drives me mental. I always make myself as seen as possible and still people aim at you!

Instead of creating a "Spec me" thread, Im just going to ask it in here...

Spec me a carbon road bike... well it doesn't have to be carbon, but I want it under the 9kg weight. My current bike is 13.38kg, a Specialized FSR XC Expert 2008, which is a great bike, but I feel stupid riding it around on the roads at lunchtime, plus I'm never going to get KOMs using a full suspension mountain bike against roadies!

Basically, my budget is probably about £900, leaving me £100 to play with extras. Yes, I am going to use the cycle to work scheme to get the bike (hopefully). Whilst technically I won't be commuting on it, the bike will still be making regular journeys to work, just on the top of my car so I can go out and do a ride at lunch times to help me stay focused for the afternoon and get some vital exercise during the week. Having a young family doesn't really allow me to get out there at the weekends as I want to spend my time with them, and commuting on the roads to work is a no no given I see lots of idiot drivers out there that don't give the cyclists I see on the way to work, any room at all!

I am looking for a more aggressive position on the bike, so not looking for an endurance/upright position (is that the right terminology?). I also want cable runs through the frame. I don't have any preference over the brakes, i.e. disc or calipers.

At the moment, my searches have thrown up a 2017 Wilier GTR using a shimano 105 groupset which happens to be heavily discounted, probably just because they want to shift it.

Any thoughts?

Also, would it be a crime to put Shimano PD-M520 Pedals on a road bike just because I already have a pair of shoes with cleats that fit these... save that money and all!!!

Canyon Endurance Al 6.0 is 8.6kg and only £799. As the name implies, it's aluminium. Don't worry about weight too much. Much of the time, rolling/air resistance are more limiting factors.
